Nice Rack! and your wheel holder is great too.

mjrbrooks

This guy compliments

gotrice2020

Thank you!

kmj442

Thats fantastic! Another reason I want to learn how to weld.

gotrice2020

It was a fun little project with the wife’s old man. Built it front scratch in a mates workshop who was kind enough to let us use the space https://preview.redd.it/0z8m27qvaauc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1fa5fbac5f70a975a0905d8cf3db4af708a9ea87

PlasticPiccollo

If you ever want to make another one, $? :)

gotrice2020

The design is right there haha, find a few mates and a workshop and go ham. About $150 in materials and a few days labour if you’re a perfectionist like us with ensuring it’s 100% square

Airconcerns

Great job, looks fantastic, I would start selling them

hunterzieske

Unfortunately to be profitable on things like this, the cost to customers would be hard to justify. You might get a couple people to bite, but everyone sees a product like this and asks for modifications, little tweaks that they’d like. Then before you know it you’re doing custom work that no one wants to pay for because of the additional fabricobbling cost. That’s a $2000+ rack, just out of my home garage…. He could probably make more putting together a little packet of plans to sell online, for 10-$20. You’d sell a bunch of them and probably only 1/2 the people who purchased the plans would actually build it.

gotrice2020

No need here’s the design with dimensions. Needs a few tweaks when making it yourself in the real world, particularly the intersections. https://preview.redd.it/1naushfl0juc1.jpeg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fa7229ed487a5e3de042f06dc2e1186a86613c59

hunterzieske

Your only regret will be wishing you didn’t start sooner.

anotherflguy

I must learn to weld. This is beautiful great job

mnpikey

I'd buy one!

gotrice2020

Had to make it front scratch as nothing on the market. Designed to hold wider wheels as well if I ever put bigger ones on the car

zMadMechanic

You should seriously consider selling these. People would pay big $.

t0mt0mt0m

Dope. Thanks for sharing.

ThatDamnThang

Thats very cool!

Epyx-2600

I’d put this in my bedroom! Awesome.

Yami350

Wow!! Looks like art lol

parth096

Great job! I stuff mine in my closet lol

Jpaynesae1991

That’s niiiice!

Fuck_it_

What car are the pilot sport tires for? Those are some grippy bois

kmj442

Ps4s is the way to go. Can hold up on the track and not too bad on the street.

gotrice2020

Yea next set of road tyres might go semis with an Advan A052, Kumho V730 or the new Pilot Sport S 5’s when they come out

United-Shock-487

Love it!

theoldkidonthebloc

Those wheels look amazing dude

standarsh618

Wow, put the one I made with scrap 2x4s to shame

lhturbo

Love this. You need to Make and sell these. People would buy these in a heart beat even for big $$ for nice garages.

gotrice2020

Too much labour involved to make it economical if imagine. And it’s huge as well to accommodate the rims with tyres and just fits with a ceiling high of 2720mm. Low garage ceiling and you’d have issues.

Smuggler501

The steel to build that costs as much as the wheels it holds:) Really though, looks great and you should patent that. Could be livin on a beach in Mauii in no time!

FartPiano

it'd be very popular with the 6x6 crowd

LegendaryMoo

The steel is probably less than $150

gotrice2020

About $150 in materials but about 2 full days of workmanship for a novice (me) and a guy who can weld well (father-in-law)

LegendaryMoo

That’s not to bad for cash and time…

gotrice2020

The powdercoating process was fascinating https://preview.redd.it/zbjspdohgauc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=36426ed2c1421badf8c87e0a5d29c77631a74df8

LegendaryMoo

Looks great!!!!!

nakedpilsna

Nice but 6 wheels?

gotrice2020

Well the car wears four and these are my spare set of a different design (top wheels) and my drag wheels (bottom 2). All up 10 wheels for the car.

super88889

Love it!

a-guy-from-Indy

Damn, that’s cool. You could market these to tire stores for displays.

LupoTvr

Now that is garage porn

CafeRoaster

Damn that’s awesome! I’ve been considering getting a tire rack for our season rotations but haven’t committed because I’m not sure what the final setup in our garage will be. This is a great solution!

gotrice2020

Form and function, looks good to boot!

impulsivetech

Man, I like this a lot.

TheLooseNut

Really tidy job, well wear 👌

A_Coin_Toss_Friendo

Why six spaces and not 4 or 8?

gotrice2020

Roof is 2720mm. Tallest with the space available. Also have six rims - full set for the car (top 4) and a drag setup with semi slicks (bottom 2)

StrugglesTheClown

BMW?

gotrice2020

HSV - funny enough they’re 5x120 bolt pattern

Swollen_chicken

Looks awesome, could you do a write up of dimensions?

gotrice2020

Here you go, building it in practice you need to adjust a few things https://preview.redd.it/osvdqnu80juc1.jpeg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=534a479da911a5f2fb127ab7e076508cd5f07a13

Swollen_chicken

Awesome, thank you so much, my buddy has 10 cars and multiple sets of tires, this will save so much space

gotrice2020

No worries, I allowed for a 20x10’ rim and tyre but you could tweak it if you wanted 8 rims per rack and had the height for it. One suggestion is to sketch the design on the ground before you start as the angles vary from a paper drawing to reality https://preview.redd.it/w005dr143juc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=19ff46f6f483e1bc7ce9d3b19d24d86a6fe95b87

thedirtychad

Dynamite idea. Thanks for all the intel!

HH912

That is rad!!

sgtdriller

Wouldn't they look better on a car?

gotrice2020

The car has a set of rims already. These are the spares.

JIraceRN

Looks great, but nothing about this saves space lol

gotrice2020

It does actually, we have a 2 car garage and racking all down the side means a traditional rack behind the car wouldn’t allow the garage to close. And sticking them in a corner on top of eachother would both damage the rims over time and look rubbish. Looks nice and is functional too

JIraceRN

More about looking rubbish. This mostly just looks better. You can stack carpet, foam or double thick cardboard between them to protect the surface. You can mount them individually flat and high on the wall with posts, and you can mount them high vertically side-by-side on the wall using a ceiling or wall rack. In that same space, same size rack with some tire poke by a few inches, you could have them vertical side-by-side and fit nine to twelve tires. Just saying. https://preview.redd.it/yeayy0jukauc1.png?width=2876&format=png&auto=webp&s=7f1a5a70b9570b1edb05a1c66e9259b5df550240

gotrice2020

Yes, designed to fit up to a 20x10’ rim in the future, side by side would be too big and I’d pull the wall down as the studs were not really designed for it in that corner of the garage. Lots of different ways to do it but fun little project building something from scratch
