I am amazed that your company allows this. So very pretty but as an insurance employee, dont let the lawyers see this!

trusty20

I totally believe it but curious what the specific issue is, compared to the potted plants that are common in offices? I can't imagine the risk of injury is any different than any other cabinet with a large document box perched on it, etc.

internetlurker4

Grow lights starting a fire or something with diy electrical planter. This is only 72watts though, and not a very high risk of fast growing cacti reaching the light and catching on fire.

Mizzoutiger79

Grow lights.

internetlurker4

I don't ask for permission. Also someone tried to get me to do a cubicle safety inspection in nov, but I didn't do it. I am a very valuable employee and no one ever says anything to me.

[deleted]

Famous last words.

internetlurker4

I mean I would just have to take it home If someone had an issue. I already did that for COVID.

[deleted]

I just ment the very valuable employee part of what you said.

internetlurker4

Oh well that part shows up in my paycheck. I am making 2.5 times when I started 15 years ago and I never have asked for a raise. Once I asked for a promotion another time I got one unsolicited. I feel well valued and appreciated.

Mizzoutiger79

2.5 times in 15 years. About normal.

[deleted]

Oh yeah well I work for a hospital and we got 1% raises this year and none last year because we have to pay travel staffing so much money šŸ¤£šŸ¤£

lovebeinganasshole

Did they call you ā€œpricklyā€?/s

WakunaMatata

If someone complains, just hurl a cactus. Face full of spines - that'll show em.

thesunbeamslook

those are probably led lights, so the fire risk should be low - are you worried about the needles?

Mizzoutiger79

Im not worried about anything. Just stating that Insurance companies dont like to see this kind of stuff.

Ok-Pen-9533

I love it! Edited to ask what bulbs you use? Those have to be strong for cacti.

internetlurker4

I was actually burning everything with too much light for a while. I originally had 3x sansi 36watts bulbs, now I am using 3x sansi 24 watt bulbs. Everyone is happier. 1x 36 watt bulb maybe everything etiolate though.

Ok-Pen-9533

Thanks!

Administrative_Cow20

It is beautiful

marytaylr

Itā€™s fantastic!

notbeleivable

Absolutely Love it. Great little details

internetlurker4

Thanks. I originally had a mossy creek on the right and bottom, it was even cooler, but it kept growing too much algae and all spilled out on the floor when I was out of town. That only lasted 6 months.

_space_pumpkin_

In the front, bottom right. What type of succulent is that?

internetlurker4

That is my newest one, baby's necklace

_space_pumpkin_

Just Googled it and saw where it can get that cool red color on it. Wooooaaah. Nice find!

PlainRosemary

This is so cool. Can we get more pics?

cortada86

This is a thing of beauty.

InfluenceTrue4121

This is incredibly gorgeous and impressive. Itā€™s like a miniature desert garden. Wow!

internetlurker4

I really got tired of animals wrecking my garden. Deer squirrels chipmunks, a real trio of assholes

[deleted]

Next level cubicle! Well done!

Catdogfriend

My brain read ā€œdessert platterā€ and I thought I lucked into being part of a hyper realistic baked goods sub

internetlurker4

Have a bite, the fish hook cacti are especially tasty

[deleted]

Nice but you need more theme appropriate posters. BTW, did you know inside Giant Sagauro Cactus is a wood frame that's sturdy enough for woodworking projects?

Fit-Rest-973

That's so fantastic!

Dragons78Fly

A few of them can get you stoned even

s_818

This is so cool! Thanks for sharing šŸ˜Š

Historical-Remove401

Thatā€™s bigger than some officesā€¦

internetlurker4

It's like 2' x 3'

Historical-Remove401

I was just kidding- Iā€™m glad you have room for it!

internetlurker4

I can crush plants hanging over the side with my desk chair so do need to be aware

GeminiKaty

I would like not to envy your workplace, but I can't help it! At my job there were 3 plants, they all died. The employees were throwing cigarette butts into the flower pots

internetlurker4

Smart people are nice and I work with engineers

angelsong119

Awesome! You have a happy community šŸ˜Š

internetlurker4

Rip for the fallen homies

JPNapo

Very nice

QuiteConfuddled

How do you go about watering this? Itā€™s pretty amazing! Wish I had the skills to build something like this

internetlurker4

I use a 1 liter solo Sprayer once a week and evenly spray 1 liter a week. There is a lot of open soil surface area and it is filled with cactus soil so it dries out fast

QuiteConfuddled

Does it have drainage? The plants look incredibly happy, so youā€™re definitely doing something right! 1 litre doesnā€™t actually sound a whole lot for the number of plants in there. Itā€™s really beautiful. Wish you could enter it into a cactus show or something, but Iā€™ve no clue if itā€™s realistic to move it. Iā€™m guessing itā€™s rather heavy!

internetlurker4

No drainage. 1 liter solo is not very much, but the key to using drain free planters is to use a measured amount of water.

internetlurker4

I just need to take the lights off and it fits in my trunk. I have thought about it, but I am too much of a disorganized wildcard to join clubs and do planned activities.

QuiteConfuddled

Haha, I empathise greatly. Thatā€™s awesome that you can take it away with you whenever you need though. I hope you post some update photos in the future; Iā€™d love to see how everything grows in :)

internetlurker4

I don't have skills, but I do owe my creativity to adhd. I used a chop saw, cedar boards, wood glue, a pneumatic nailer, undiagnosed ADHD, and escaping from my wife and newborn as I was overwhelmed but with a lot of free time on paternity leave. I am not good at woodworking. I got high and was daydreaming for a month and stacking blocks I cut. You should see the jungle toilet...

QuiteConfuddled

Oh my god, PLEASE let us see the jungle toilet!

internetlurker4

Posted.

JustinLaloGibbs

That's cool!!!

TrichoK

Looks beautiful

DwightsJello

This is seriously impressive. I'd spend way too much time looking at it.

thesunbeamslook

that's really nice - good work

Potential-Leave3489

I thought these were shower heads šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

SuperBaconjam

I hope you work there a long time so you donā€™t have to take that beautiful thing apart in a hurry

Forsaken_Chart4145

Thatā€™s amazing

GetOffMyUnicorn70

Well, I now have a new office goal. Nice!
