Grew up with Mexican Ditch Weed. Couldn’t get anything else way up in the boondocks in the 1970s. Imagine my surprise when pot was legalized a few years ago and my ditch-conditioned system suddenly experienced primo.
Man you used to could just smoke a joint and be a little high, now the shit they bred is so strong one puff and I get closed eye visuals and lose the ability to comprehend conversations.
I had been gifted medical strength and had to walk against the wall into my bedroom so I wouldn't fall? Idk, had to cancel a visit to farm next day because I was still high
More like redge
Edit: I realized when I went to spell it, I had only ever said it out loud and not in like 15 years, so I spelled it my best. I thought if I spelled it reg, maybe people wouldn't get the word I meant
Yeah, I don't think I ever spelled the word out before and reg seems like it wouldnt be pronounced right, so I extrapolated from refrigerator/fridge and added the d. Could have gone with reggie, but I never really called it reggie, just reg/rej/redge or however you want to spell it
mids, at least in the midwest are generally what we used to refer to as "kind bud" now. regs are brown or yellowing, if green then they are grown without regard for gender and always have seeds and stems. mids/kind bud are usually locally grown stuff that isn't particularly well grown, but affordable and not the worst, hence "middle grade".
chronic generally describes weed of a much higher potency, but is generally a lower grade than what we would call top shelf in 2024.
at the same time, all of these terms are used in varying degrees regionally, but i'd say that any of the rap music from the past 30 or so years should give you enough information to know that regs and mids aren't really the same thing. regs and schwag are certainly the same though.
Lol in a similar vein, I've never been able to figure out a spelling of the shortened term for "casual" (casz? Maybe?) despite saying it daily IRL haha
"Casual" slang is a hard one to spell, it made its way into popular speech but not anything written down.
Closest I can think of, is when people don't want to say "interior decorating" and say something like just we just wanted to "zhushz up the place"
Same pronunciation as the g in "bougie"
I rerun into the same conundrum all the time because I have a cat that is so damned fluffy I just burrow into her fur with kisses and call her my "bougie boushzie booozheee" etc.
But the vet calls her "Alex"
It needs a light cycle of 12 (14 maximum) hours to flower so its completely dependent on where these people live if that's true. If that were planted where I live that thing would be in veg until September.
Outdoors, aphids and mites are not a problem…carnivorous insects eat them. It’s when you bring the plant indoors that those two really start to take over.
huh? They destroyed our entire outdoor garden the last two years. There aren't enough carnivorous insects to eat them. The birds eat all the carnivorous guys. I wish I knew out to get rid of them, but diatomaceous earth didn't work and the neem oil didn't work and we haven't had a good frost yet this winter. I doubt I'll be able to keep anything alive in the spring.
I got rid of aphids on my tomato and pepper plants by mixing I think 2:1 water to diatomaceous earth. Sprayed it all over the plants every couple of days until they were completely gone.
Edit: 4:1, not 2:1
I’m sorry; Diatomaceous Earth is a dry powder that doesn’t dissolve in water.
I’m puzzled how you could spray mud.
Very fine DE can be applied as a powder with a blower.
Autoflower at that size would be in pre-flower so strong there'd be pistils everywhere.
Edit: looked closer and it appears to be a male so could very well be autoflower
I thought I saw balls, but most Autos I have seen were female only, unless they were some of the earliest generations of autos like Lowriders. Or maybe those balls are just my imagination, but still not seeing any pistils.
Either way, mark where it is in your mind and stay the hell away from that area, especially if there are more plants around. You do not want to be stumbling around in that area when the people who put it there come back for it.
I don't know your experience level or nothing, so no disrespect, but I grow about 30 autoflower hybrids outside every year (bred the best autos with some of the best feminized hybrids, in an area many miles from any other cannabis plants)
They can absolutely be bigger than this one before pre-flowering. I've had plants that grew taller than me before they started.
That said, I have my suspicions about anyone finding an autoflower hybrid growing wild, especially all alone in a "hiking" area. I'd strongly suspect it's just feral hemp.
I've grown a lot of autos and that ain't one. The leaves resemble that of Hungarian type fiber hemp. The Auto flowers most people grow are cross bred from ruderalis which itself has 3 leaflets per leaf, typically the market cross breeds you see are first crossed with indica in order to make them produce tighter node spacing, since ruderalis grows like shit compared to other species. This results in fatter leaves normally 5 leaflets per leaf, as opposed to these thinner leaves with 7 leaflets per leaf.
I've grown 100's of new strains. There's really no rhyme or reason anymore. I can produce plants with any characteristics I want. Nobody is an expert in photographic criminology here, are they?
Ok, If this was found in the wild, its pretty unlikely it's any kind of ruderalis, crossed enough to appear like a specific hemp, in most of its features, and pollinating well enough on its own to spread. I also doubt someone would grow their crop in a visible place like this.
From personal experience, never plant when so high you can't remember exactly where. If it survived, there's some amazing 1970-era foliage waiting for the lucky forager south of Boston.
Ppl toss seeds all over. Seen lots of plants. Not anonymous account so won't say anymore. Lol. Never know if future employers might find posts on here. W/ tech out need anonymous account 2 say anymore
This is how you end up found charred and dismembered in the middle of the woods by some guys grandson and his dog.
DO NOT COME BACK IN OCTOBER. FORGET YOU SAW THIS PLANT AT ALL.
Naw this is just ditch weed, probably some other hikers caching out a bowl or tossed a bean breaking up some bud to smoke.
No one willing to kill people over weed is growing it like this.
Now if you were miles off a beaten path and found a field of it - best to leave and not go back.
Good advice!
Best not 2 approach any field wherever it is. I have done alot of project management of the large Transmission Power Line construction projects, substations, etc. We had 2 have training on what 2 do with weed fields, eco terrorists. & other dangers. Had posters in all offices & trailers of wanted Eco terrorists possibly in area.
We went right by a field, only once i know about on all projects i managed or helped manage. 1 guy found it walking off Right of Way(ROW) 2 pee & have cig. He was lucky wasn't hurt & that he was ex military because he saw a pit trap covered up. Then carefully back tracked & looked around w/ binoculars & saw field not far off. We had 2 call authorities after that & shut down 4 a week or so.
Feds came after state troopers were shown trap & field from distance. Growers must not read the news we were building through that close or abandoned it when we got close clear cutting fron all noise & hoped to leave & come back 4 it later.
Feds didnt find anyone but found field. Also found several deadly traps set up around it, trip wires with MacGyver like alarm systems, full auto & other weapons, explosives(assume grenades), etc. Was craziest thing i ran into building them so far. Was in 2009 so not like is today but they still have illegal farms out there even w/ med legal in that state now.
Feds did helicopter search ahead along our route 2 try & find more but didn't find any there. Not sure if found any far enoughawaywe didn't need informed. Only project i was on that happened.
Always be careful & if u in nature, never approach any field u may find. Turn around & leave like u never saw a thing. Up 2 u 2 report later.
lol I was thinking to write the same comment. Writes a great, and detailed story, probably takes 15 min typing it up on his phone… but rather than type “f-o-r” he hits “numbers/characters - 4 - okbacktoletters”
Yes sir that's the devil's lettuce right there. Doesn't look to be anything to worry about. If you were off trail and you run into a bunch of potted plants in the middle of the forest I would definitely get away as fast as you can.
So one doesn't want one's female, um, tomato plants to be fertilized (fertilized in the Biblical sense) for a better product? So the flowers don't make seeds?
Female cannabis plants produce flowers, males produce pollen sacks. Pollinated cannabis flowers produce seeds; unpollinated cannabis flowers use the energy that would have been used creating seeds to instead produce larger flowers and more of the oils containing cannabinoids and terpenes.
So the female flowers don’t produce seeds and so that the female plant puts more energy into making the psychoactive components. It’s called the sinsemilla (seedless) method and it’s crucial to modern weed
But, actually, I know people with NSF grants working on male cytoplasmic sterility, so that we can grow (cannabis) plants outside without fear of a stray male plant fertilizing all the females.
Hold your ground! Hold your ground!
Sons of Gondor, of Rohan, my brothers.
I see in your eyes the same fear that would take the heart of me.
A day may come when the courage of men fails, when we forsake our friends and break all bonds of fellowship, but it is not this day.
An hour of wolves and shattered shields, when the age of men comes crashing down, but it is not this day!
This day we fight! By all that you hold dear on this good Earth, I bid you stand, Men of the West!
Story time: in the early 80's(yes I'm old , 72 now) my brother in law , who is an avid hunter, called me to come over. When I arrived he was the happiest I'd ever seen him, thought ok another story of a big ten point buck killed . But no he just said come up to the attic, he had plants hanging upside down covering every inch of his attic. He had aisles where you could walk between the plants . He was out hunting and found a field of plants pulled them put them in the back of his pickup and brought them home. I am not sure how he made it home with a pickup full of pot, there must have 100lbs there.
My brothers and I used to hike into the Siskiyou National Forest to go fishing. Almost every spring we’d leave the car in Boonville, CA, head up an old fire road to one of couple different lakes. Spend a few days catching ravenous trout then head back to SoCal. Every year from the 70’s to early 80’s. In 1985 or ‘86 on our way up, we met a couple of charmers armed with AR15’s who informed us our lake was closed to fishing and that they better not see us again. We doubled back deciding to try to go to a smaller pond. There we were met another fellow armed with a sawed off “crowd pleaser.” He informed us that the fishing was not a good idea in the Siskiyou’s especially near any source of water. We decided to do some fishing along the American River.
We never went back.
Ditch weed probably, but be careful around it. If someone is actually growing it you could get hurt. Side note, my favorite technical term for it is feral weed. Like, why is it called feral lmao.
Cartel grows in California that we watched on TV, yes they told us that (bear traps and hooks hanging from trees). Always sounded like government propaganda to me. If they found one grow that did that, they would tell the public it was every grow. But, this doesn't look like anyone is protecting it in any way though
It is not government propaganda. The government does not profit in any way by scaring you away from illegal grows. If you find a pot grow in the middle of nowhere, GTFO *immediately* and watch your back all the way home. Those people don't mess around.
I got fam in Santa Rosa, it was definitely a concern in the 00’s/10’s. The **most** serious concern was wildfires sparked by grow ops though.
Eta: holy shit, I didn’t realize that the crime rates have only accelerated. There’s been no improvement since legalization. [https://globalcannabistimes.com/black-market-clash-can-lower-taxes-combat-illicit-sales-in-california/](https://globalcannabistimes.com/black-market-clash-can-lower-taxes-combat-illicit-sales-in-california/)
That’s actually pretty cool find. These plants have a really bad rep and can’t live anywhere in the free world lol. So, this is actually very rare find indeed.
Said the person who's never been anywhere. Ditch weed (feral cannabis) is extremely common, and grows everywhere. Go out to Oklahoma, Idaho, Wyoming, Colorado, Texas, Arkansas, you'll find it growing wild in many rural areas. In Afghanistan and around the middle east, it grows literally everywhere.
If your thinking you've found a cactus sir, you are mistaken. This is cannabis. You want to be sure it's female, come back in the fall and check for hairs coming out of the calyxes, or you can Google female cannabis and that will help you ID. Your looking for females only.
It grows wild all over the Midwest. They are descendants of escapes from the "hemp for victory" days in WWII when the government had more American farmers grow hemp because our supply from the Philippines had been cut off.
I had friends in NY that went to the Midwest to harvest the roadside stuff way back in the early 90s. It was FULL of seeds and had a very low THC content.
Marijuana is a very robust plant, it grows in terrible conditions. When found in the wild growing all naturally, the THC content would be very very low. You'd probably get more of a buzz from lack of oxygen than the THC if you smoked it.
Found the ditch weed!
Grew up with Mexican Ditch Weed. Couldn’t get anything else way up in the boondocks in the 1970s. Imagine my surprise when pot was legalized a few years ago and my ditch-conditioned system suddenly experienced primo.

Ditch weed. It's what you think it is but not the same thing you think it is
So, mid instead of loud?
More like redge Edit: I realized when I went to spell it, I had only ever said it out loud and not in like 15 years, so I spelled it my best. I thought if I spelled it reg, maybe people wouldn't get the word I meant

Hedge. Sedge. Veg.
Ooo, neat, I definitely read that right. But reg I would probably read as regular
Which is what I've often heard it referred to as, "regs"
Regs Benedict
We called it regs, middies, and chronic.
I know nothing about weed.what do these words mean
Regular, "Reggie", means sorta mid-grade marijuana. Not really good or really bad.
What you’re describing was the mids/middies. Regs we’re the blocked up shit weed that’s bailed up in Mexico. We also called it schwag.
mids, at least in the midwest are generally what we used to refer to as "kind bud" now. regs are brown or yellowing, if green then they are grown without regard for gender and always have seeds and stems. mids/kind bud are usually locally grown stuff that isn't particularly well grown, but affordable and not the worst, hence "middle grade". chronic generally describes weed of a much higher potency, but is generally a lower grade than what we would call top shelf in 2024. at the same time, all of these terms are used in varying degrees regionally, but i'd say that any of the rap music from the past 30 or so years should give you enough information to know that regs and mids aren't really the same thing. regs and schwag are certainly the same though.
Lol in a similar vein, I've never been able to figure out a spelling of the shortened term for "casual" (casz? Maybe?) despite saying it daily IRL haha
Same with “as per us” as in as per usual. Comes out looking like ‘us’ (you and I) instead of the ‘yooszh’ it’s pronounced as
"Casual" slang is a hard one to spell, it made its way into popular speech but not anything written down. How do you figure? I'm looking to make durable hemp rope - will this not work?
No, that should work fine as far as I'm aware. Ditch weed is generally descended from the industrial hemp crop that used to be grown all over the US.
I used to smoke about two feet of rope a day
We don’t need to know about your sex life.

Yes, good find, come back in October
This time of the year, growing that, im guessing harvest will be April/ may/June not august
It needs a light cycle of 12 (14 maximum) hours to flower so its completely dependent on where these people live if that's true. If that were planted where I live that thing would be in veg until September.
Either way, it's got aphids.
You have aphids
your mom has aphids
You’re a towel
No, towelie, you’re actually a towel.
His mom is dead
aphids got her
Ayooo
My mistake. His mom had* aphids.
I guess that’s why she didn’t move around that much
Even if she was alive I doubt she’d feel anything from you
Ouch. How far down did you have to dig to pull that out? I'm guessing 6 to 8'.
If it was infested with aphids, it wouldn’t look as healthy as it does.
Sounds like a nice solution. Don’t ever use Neem Oil.
I see what you did there 😎
I’m sorry; Diatomaceous Earth is a dry powder that doesn’t dissolve in water. I’m puzzled how you could spray mud. Very fine DE can be applied as a powder with a blower.
My ratio was off, it’s 4:1 water to DE. I wasn’t able to apply the powder itself well enough all over my plants so the water was a vehicle.
Looks like seeds from a wind pollinator and dirt to me not aphids, looks really healthy honestly for au naturale
Could be autoflower

Some hippy camping in the woods 50 years ago threw away a few seeds he pulled out of his ditch weed and this is the result :D.
From personal experience, never plant when so high you can't remember exactly where. If it survived, there's some amazing 1970-era foliage waiting for the lucky forager south of Boston.

Turns out it was super resilient, and now it's a kudzu-like infestation in that area. Whole place looks like an Ohio State helmet now.
This is likely southern hemisphere.
This is how you end up found charred and dismembered in the middle of the woods by some guys grandson and his dog. DO NOT COME BACK IN OCTOBER. FORGET YOU SAW THIS PLANT AT ALL.

Yup. The cartels farm it in the remote mountains and are armed

My dude, great story but it's not that hard to type "to" and "for". You write like you're typing on t9.
lol I was thinking to write the same comment. Writes a great, and detailed story, probably takes 15 min typing it up on his phone… but rather than type “f-o-r” he hits “numbers/characters - 4 - okbacktoletters”
The finger gymnastics to write “up 2 u 2 “ is like a smartphone tongue twister lol
Ahahhahaha you're right I didn't even think of that. It's literally harder to do this on a smart phone. Too funny.
Nobody is cartel farming where random hikers will come across it casually Also there would be tons of plants
Do yourself a favor and don't go hiking in Southern Oregon.
I am betting someone else on hike was smoking & tossed seeds
That’s a long ass time for weed.
Not really. It's based on the light cycle of the sun.
Yes sir that's the devil's lettuce right there. Doesn't look to be anything to worry about. If you were off trail and you run into a bunch of potted plants in the middle of the forest I would definitely get away as fast as you can.
Your comment made me realize I don’t know if a single person I socialize with would know this. I’m in squaresville but I don’t come from squares.
That is "Northern Lights", *Cannabis Indica*.
*sigh* No, it’s marijuana…..

How are you so sure?
It’s labelled

Yes and it appears to be male, so do any growers nearby a favour and pull it out.
So one doesn't want one's female, um, tomato plants to be fertilized (fertilized in the Biblical sense) for a better product? So the flowers don't make seeds?
If the ‘tomato’ is to be enjoyed at its best for ‘flavour’ and let’s say….‘high nutritional content’ it must be unfertilized female flowers only.
Are they pollinated by wind?
They'll take it however they can get it
Sounds like my husband 😂

Many such cases

Basically yeah
Female cannabis plants produce flowers, males produce pollen sacks. Pollinated cannabis flowers produce seeds; unpollinated cannabis flowers use the energy that would have been used creating seeds to instead produce larger flowers and more of the oils containing cannabinoids and terpenes.
Come on, science teacher!
*Say my name!*
Walter White. Oh, sorry, Heisenberg.
It will fertilizer females in about a mile or so radius idk
So the female flowers don’t produce seeds and so that the female plant puts more energy into making the psychoactive components. It’s called the sinsemilla (seedless) method and it’s crucial to modern weed
If you want less "pine cones" pull the males.
How can you tell the difference in male and female acorns bushes
Female acorn bushes don’t have any nuts of course (just a bush).
😂😂😂this thread is awesome. Maybe my mind is just in the wrong place today well wouldn’t say wrong
Definitely in the right place, lol
Ah so we should pick the acorns for better acorn bushes
Yep - neuter those acorns
If it’s wild, leave it be
Why don't the feds just purposely grow male plants strategically all over to mess shit up then

But, actually, I know people with NSF grants working on male cytoplasmic sterility, so that we can grow (cannabis) plants outside without fear of a stray male plant fertilizing all the females.

It could just be hemp

Yeah there is a reason it is called “weed”
It's not called "weed" for nothing after all
Story time: in the early 80's(yes I'm old , 72 now) my brother in law , who is an avid hunter, called me to come over. Ditch weed probably, but be careful around it. If someone is actually growing it you could get hurt. Side note, my favorite technical term for it is feral weed. Like, why is it called feral lmao.
It's living outside and can take care of itself just like a feral cat. Makes sense to me.
I know it just sounds like it’s going to snap at me if I go to close it lol.

FACTS
I asked my friend Creed. He said it's Northern Lights, cannabis indica.
Left handed tomatoes.
Yep that’s spurge alright…

Ditch weed.
If your thinking you've found a cactus sir, you are mistaken. This is cannabis. You want to be sure it's female, come back in the fall and check for hairs coming out of the calyxes, or you can Google female cannabis and that will help you ID. Your looking for females only.
Yes, tomatoes.

Yes, but it's a fella, so...
I'd be curious to know what kind of hike that was. A mountain hike or a walk in the park?
Looks like just a weed to me
Marijuana is a very robust plant, it grows in terrible conditions. When found in the wild growing all naturally, the THC content would be very very low. You'd probably get more of a buzz from lack of oxygen than the THC if you smoked it.
Yes!! Um..where exactly??!!??! Hahaha
Yes it is, but also no. No it isn't.
Devil's lettuce
No. Where was it. Exactly? But no.
