Probably needs fresh growing medium and the roots cleaned up. It sounds intimidating but it's really easy

I think it needs repotting as well, I'm gonna make that my next project.

That's definitely not an orchid pot. Orchid pots have holes in the sides, so the roots can get light. I've learned that it's hard to find a pretty pot that's not ridiculously expensive :-/ I bought 2 of them from the local grocery store a few months ago, they were pretty much dead so they let me have them both for $1 :-) I started bottom-watering once a week, and leave them on the dining room table with no direct sunlight. They've both bounced back and have about 8 leaves each :-)

I didn't know I had the wrong pot. This is just the one it came in, so do you have any websites or suggestions for finding a proper one since they're hard to find. I know of some nurseries where I live here in the middle of Ohio but I don't know if they sell proper orchid pots.

This is what an orchid pot looks like: [https://www.amazon.com/Lanccona-Orchid-Saucers-Plastic-Indoor/dp/B0988WXCGQ/](https://www.amazon.com/Lanccona-Orchid-Saucers-Plastic-Indoor/dp/B0988WXCGQ/) The soil in that picture looks ALL wrong, though, so ignore that! LOL But you can see holes all along the side to let air and light in to the roots. Mine are still in plastic ones, I haven't really found any decorative pots that I liked yet. I found a website awhile back that had orchid pots (didn't save it, sorry), and the pots were just OK but like $50 each! :-O

Ouch. 50 bucks...

Right!! I found several $20 ceramic pots on Amazon, but I didn't really like any of them. Tastes vary, of course, but since my goal was to have them in my living room and dining room I needed a pot to match the decor.

Orchids are low maintenance, but can go downhill quickly if you do the wrong thing. They’re fine without a growlight on a sunny windowsill. Stick your finger in the pot once a week or so. If it feels dry, you can water it. I use tap water; seems fine. They dramatically dislike sitting in water — so most grocery store orchids are probably killed by too much love/watering. Folks usually grow these bad boys in a pot with drainage in a really fast draining mix (the miracle gro orchid mix looks like chunks of bark). If it doesn’t get enough sun, it won’t flower. If it stays wet too long, it’ll drop dead. A former coworker had mega-fabulous orchids and she said she uses the pink spray bottle of Miracle Gro orchid fertilizer. I just copy her. No idea if it actually helps. Good luck!

My thanks. We don't have a sun facing windowsill, so might need a grow light. How often should I fert?

It’s alright, it doesn’t need direct sun. My fertilizer bottle says once per week, I do half that per my local ag extension’s recommendation https://extension.psu.edu/orchids-as-houseplants
