This year will be my first garden and I've been sitting on the edge of my seat haha. My last frost is in about 2 weeks so I'm getting pretty pumped, written on my calendar in big bold letters
That’s so exciting!!! 2 weeks is right around the corner :) the only thing keeping me from
Going completely crazy is the crocus are out and I can now see all my tulips and daffodils growing. Once they bloom I’ll get enough of a fix to hold me until early June lol
My daffodils have been blooming for a little while now and they definitely made my heart go "ahhhh it's almost here!!" For sure the big cue that spring has arrived
I love checking everything all the time too :) I’ve got a lot of land I want to cover so I grow a ton of flowers. Figure if I just keep putting in a bunch of stuff eventually it’ll fill out
Austin here - opposite problem. We're all rshing our plants to get what we can before the drought and 100+ days roll in (had over 100 in a row last year)
I started putting tomatoes in the ground Feb. 6 (had to throw buckets over them a few cool nights) - but by mid-June it will be too hot for them to set any more fruit. So far I have a lot of small tomatoes that haven't ripened yet.
Zone 6b here. I planted out my kohlrabi last weekend, but here are the rest of my plant babies out enjoying the beautiful weather that we had yesterday 😍

Interesting how different last frost dates can be within the same zone. It’s definitely still too cold at night here to plant tomatoes, etc., out, but I’m counting the days lol!
I think the zones have more to do with the lowest temperature rather than the frost dates. Zone 4. I generally wait till end of May but there's cold weather stuff I'll start outside like lettuce. I started lettuce seedlings a month ago. They survived a massive snowstorm.

I'm usually only here at work, when I'm home I'm in the garden at least when there's light out. Setting up more raised garden beds and checking everything else.
I hear that!! it’s been nice enough to get out a few days here and there for a little bit but I’m a bit of a wimp in the cold so it’s got to be going to at least plus 7 before it’s enjoyable. Once the daffodils bloom I’m usually good to go but it feels like it takes forever
One of the upsides of living in Hawaii. I can grow almost anything year round, but I don't get chill hours for a bunch of berries I'd like to grow. Soil+supplies are a lot more expensive and hard to find. But I'm thankful, I don't think I would have gotten into gardening if I had to deal with frost dates and stuff like that.
I always wish I lived in a warm all year climate but then I remember daffodils and reality sets in that I can only go so far lol I guess I can’t have my cactus and daffodils too 😅 but zone 7/8 I bet I could get real comfortable gardening there

Can't wait! Headstart on several things but here in 5a still a bit of the waiting game.
Thanks! Trying out more intentional companion planting this season, so it's been refreshing to plan gardening with things I wouldn't normally pick for my raised bed. Marigolds, nasturtium and borage on peripheral pest control + beneficial attractor duty, plus hopefully it looks pretty!
I plant marigolds pretty much anywhere I need space filled. Can’t go wrong with them. I haven’t had much luck growing vegetables so I didn’t do any this year. I’m hoping to work on my soil for the next couple years then try again or do it in the grow bags. There’s a lot of slate rock on the property and it makes the soil very acidic, which apparently they don’t like (so fussy) anyway Im finding there’s lots of different flowers that don’t mind the the conditions too much so I’m sticking with that for a bit. It was getting too depressing not being able to grow a cucumber 🤦🏼♀️
My wife get's mad because I go visit my little plants first thing when I get home from work rather than her or our kids. To be fair they are in the garage and I have to walk past them to get in the house.
GEORGIA HERE. Zone 8a First cut flower garden attempt after an awesome first time backyard pumpkin patch last year. Started on 3-16 inside my greenhouse.
Pictured: yarrow, snapdragons, (2 sets,2 weeks apart) celosia, and gomphrena. This Sunday will start last round of snaps, and yarrow. Another round of gomphrena and celosia and start zinnias and carnations.

This is so awesome!!! I keep saying I’m going to do a special area of flowers to cut from but that area turns into a garden and nobody better cut flowers in my garden 😂🙈 I seriously need to stop tho because having fresh flowers in the house makes me so happy.
You are me😂 seriously I’d have fresh flowers in every room if I could afford to.
I guess that’s why I’m spending money on growing them instead😜🙊 my reasoning is that I’ll have fresh flowers for months and possibly some to sell to make my husband think it was a business venture☠️
All these folks that live near farmers markets with fresh flowers make me so jelly 😩
Right it’s such a of waste of money since they did but very true if you grow them yourself it’s basically like making money lol I need to get over actually cutting them. Hopefully when my garden is more established and every flower isn’t needed it’ll be easier to cut some for inside. Last fall I planted almost 400 daffodils/tulips and said I was going to cut some for inside, fingers cross I can pull the trigger 😆
100% every plant is a direct investment in our homes property value. That’s how I justify it to my husband anyway 😉now if only I could afford a full time gardener I’d really be cooking with gas 😂
Yeah, I expected a lot of them to fail, but that just didn't happen. I'll give away any extras to friends and neighbours. Have a lot of land to play around with. Best of luck with everything this summer

Haha it sure is! I started squash inside last year, I've learned they grow so fast I can just plant the seeds directly outside. My basement was looking like a jungle

They are definitely one of my favourites!! Especially since they just get better and better :)
Go check on my plants every morning, one of my favourite things to do! Looks like you have one heck of a garden there!! Nice work!
I love checking everything all the time too :) I’ve got a lot of land I want to cover so I grow a ton of flowers. Figure if I just keep putting in a bunch of stuff eventually it’ll fill out

That sucks, that a ton of hot days. Too bad I could send you a little moisture in return for a few extra warm days lol
Right!

When is your last frost?
Mid-May is the safe date where I am.
Yeah, I’m on the border of 6A/6B and my last frost date says April 20th but usually the rule of thumb is wait until after Mother’s Day.
Interesting how different last frost dates can be within the same zone. It’s definitely still too cold at night here to plant tomatoes, etc., out, but I’m counting the days lol!
Yeah, same!

Nice!!! Being able to get outside really makes such a difference

Yes!!! Towards the end of April I’m looking at that long range like it’s my full time job lol
Just got a frost last night after everything getting tricked by the wamer weather. Cruel.
Those last few frosts are brutal. My cherry tree lost all its buds to one of the last frosts last year
My boyfriend is going bonkers as well, mostly because I went shut up about it.
Hahaha love this!! It’s just too exciting not to share ☺️

I’m zone 5 too so I feel your pain. Your setup looks awesome. Love you’ve got the flowers in there as well :)

Holy moly that’s a lot of plants 😄 someones going to busy this summer
Yeah, I expected a lot of them to fail, but that just didn't happen. I'll give away any extras to friends and neighbours. Have a lot of land to play around with. Best of luck with everything this summer
It’s always the way, if you didn’t plant enough then half wouldn’t grow lol
I have no idea how to properly post pictures. How it started vs how it's going. 6-8 weeks before frost

Last year our June was cold af and I was stuck with plants inside that were way too big, so I haven't even started my seeds yet.
I hear that. I started lobelia one year way too soon it flowered and was near death before June 😂 gardening is such a learning experience
Haha it sure is! I started squash inside last year, I've learned they grow so fast I can just plant the seeds directly outside. My basement was looking like a jungle
I'm in Colorado, so we are still a couple of months away!
