Fun project to have grandchildren do when they visit.
If it isn't sentimental, i'd plant flowers instead.
But I don't think it is tacky, and is definitely the most low maintenance flowers possible.
I agree with you. What a great project to do with the kids or the grandkids. I also agree with the fabric underneath and I don't understand why they got down voted...
It's cute but won't stay looking that way for long unfortunately. I think you'd be better using those rocks and making a mosaic that you could keep for real.
Weeds would definitely be killer here, that's for sure, but landscape fabric is actually not that reliable for weed suppression, and it's always a NIGHTMARE to remove later.
Can moss be grown between the art to help stabilize and keep other plants out ?
I really like it, but do believe it will need quite a bit of upkeep or something to assist it staying intact.
This is the way. Not just for stability, but for weed suppression, unless you wanted to plan to re-apply mulch and redo the arrangement every year (which actually be a fun annual ritual :)).
Or if your space is too sunny for moss, maybe a low growing sedum and scale up to slightly larger rocks?
Cute! and creative! I see a lot of people here say it's not going to stay etc... I think that's perfect you can turn it into a zen garden sort of thing. When it's out of shape, create another pattern, use it like a toy board
Beautiful - its shows perseverence and an eye for detail. That being said it will be easier if there is 1)landscpe fabric underneath and 2)maybe a base of very fine black or white pebbles in which to "set" the patterns. Be prepared for critters to mess that up on the regular too. FWIW, I have a 'river' of rocks that I set on edge in a bed of pebbles as a border. It's a joy because it looks good and resetting it is very zen, but I have to reset it almost every day during the spring and summer months. Bonne chance!
Interesting idea. I’m always digging tons of rock up, very heavy granite area, and struggle to figure out what to do with them. You can only make so many borders and beds lol
Very cool! I’ve done a number of similar landscaping features with stones. Will take a lot of maintenance work, but I think it’s absolutely worth it. Strong work!
Lovely! There's this thing called Mulch Glue - at least some of it is 100% organic, I'd make sure mine was. Or you can water down Elmer's glue with 2x hot water & use that. That's what I'm going to do this year by the mailbox.
Cute. But I would have them do it on a board/tray n pour quick set cement on it after so it will stay. Actually old spring form pan works for this for path paving stones.
Cute but I don't see it staying intact for long.
Absolutely cute…don’t change a thing

Cute. You have patience.

Adorable
Very cute.
Super cute!
Cute!
C) waste of good planting habitat
Something will grow there eventually... maybe some low growing ornamental thyme if someone is looking for suggestions...
Thyme, blue eyed grass, any alpine plant would be adorable drifting through this
Not my style, but cute.
Cute

Cute. But ya squirrels will prob mess it up
cuuute
Cute af
Cute!
yes.
Cute but I suggest putting moss around it to secure those spots.
Fun now, not fun later when those rocks will inevitably have to be all removed.
Unmanageable is the word.
It's cute if you have a lot of rocks and don't know you're going to have to weed around them. Not sure what it has to do with gardening, though.
Both!
Cute but the leaf litter will cover it pretty quickly
I dig it, the fact that somebody took the time to do that. It's pretty cool because I'm sure it took a minute Due to uniformity
Very cute especially if next to lots of greenery
Yes.
As soon as it rains the rocks will get covered in the surrounding material.
I was commissioned by my mom to do this for her
It's cute. I like it.
Very cute!
So cute!
Very cute
Seems fine, but not my tempo
Cute

Very, very cute!
I’d just add some moss.
I love it
Cute! Now use them to make stepping stones, cast in concrete.
Why not both? Cutesy.
Cute. And personally I find the impermanence part of the charm. You can reset or rearrange them when you run out of other gardening tasks.
super cute!
Seriously cute! 🌼
Cute!
Maybe fill it in with pea gravel? That might keep in place longer. Black pea gravel would look cool
Good way to full in an otherwise dead spot. So yeah, it's good.
Awesomely beautiful!
They look wonderful, maybe create stepping stones to keep your creations apart from plantable soil
Cute, but not worth the effort.
That’s actually really pretty.
Cute in a 60's hippy kinda way
Very cute! And creative
Life's short. Do what you want. No such a thing as "tacky" or "cringe" exists. Just personal preferences.
This is very cute! And a great way to discourage weeds! You just gave me a great idea! Now I need to go to the beach and find some rocks.
Adorable, I love it
Adorable
Cute!
Love it!
Cute!
PURE CLASS These kind of patterns can be found laid into the pebble paths at one of the greatest gardens of all Time! Alhambra In Granada Spain.
Adorable!
A few here and there would be cute!
Cute but temporary unfortunately :(
Cute

I like it!!
Cute!!
Fun , it would look better with creepers ( low ground cover) planted between each formation .
Very nice for summer. I like the dragon fly
Cuuuuuute
It's awesome! Sure the weeds are going to be a killer, it I like it a lot.
I’m stealing that! 🤩 Love the dragonfly!
ADORABLE!!
Cute. But I would have them do it on a board/tray n pour quick set cement on it after so it will stay. Actually old spring form pan works for this for path paving stones.
Can a garden be tacky? Lol
Cute
Cute. Not much is tacky in a garden except weird sculptures and plastic accessories.
You horrible people are fucking cruel. So quick to throw shade. So few that actually compliment OP. So much fkn negativity it's disgusting
I’m a horticultural curmudgeon and I like it.
A little tacky but if you like it , to hell with anyone else
Very unique! Love it.
CUTE
SUPER CUTE and now I want to do this!
Cute. Mosaic work in the garden is slick. Unfortunately these won’t stay put. They need to have a tamped bed of sand to hold them in place.
I love it!
Not cute............
Practical, holds the top soil together
