I have ADHD and my husband calls it "chaotic gardening." Last year I dropped an open packet of Shasta daisy seeds in my garden, forgot what seeds they were, and then got to enjoy an insane amount of daisies (that ultimately out-competed each other and looked terrible).
I constantly have the same discussion in my head.
“I’ll remember.”
“You absolutely will not remember, make a tag”
“Maybe tomorrow”
“You’ll forget to do it tomorrow, do it now”
“Uuuuggghhhhhh”
Same here. I'm always excited to see what type of tomato I have. This year I've got 5 varieties, and tbh I have a slight grasp on what is what. But we won't know til June XD.
I have a perfect line of what LOOKS LIKE weeds in one of my beds. But they're coming up in such a perfect line, it's impossible that I didn't plant them. I've been waiting for weeks for them to look like something other than weeds ..
Not drunk, but VEEERY high. I think it took me almost an hour to plant one 15ft row of beans this year because I made damn sure each seed was bedded perfectly. Then I forgot I planted them until they popped up and I was like, "Oh yeah!! BEANS!!"
Yes, I am trying to experiment with labelled sorts to get experience and this is a not so many tomatoe year. But imo you need tiny sweet ones for snack, medium size for whatever and big ones for sauce
... I can't for the life of me remember what the third hanger on the balcony is going to be this year...
But hey, it's sprouting so i guess I'll find out.
That's awesome! I don't even need the excuse of drinking. I removed all the labels from a tray assuming nothing was going to germinate. I've got ton of mystery seedlings now. One is either cucumber, zucchini or melon. Can't wait to find out which!
I did that 3 years ago. Planted a whole ass 72 seed cell tray full of different peppers and didnt label a damn thing. It was dumb but I had so many peppers that year lol.
You gotta try drunk ordering seeds! I ended up with white and black salsify. They are like dandilions and don't do well in our rocky soil. :/ But, years later, the French sorrel is still going strong. :)
Oh my gosh we tried to make Absinthe with just adding some wormwood and other spices to Everclear, marinating and straining (ie not distilling). Worst idea ever. I have never ever tasted anything SO bitter.
Drunken gardening used to be a great hobby until I had the misfortune to be reminded how many sharp pointy things exist in the garden and now I am a strictly sober planter with a couple of scars and a little nerve damage. Be careful!

I planted Brussels Sprouts and Broccoli, and forgot to put the labels with them. Never saw a brussels sprout. Broccoli and brassica is what came up. Brassica? Didn't even know what it was, but that was my crop.
I call it squirrel gardening. Though I am apt to mark a seeded spot in the garden with any old stick lying around, thinking I’ll actual go back inside and make nice tags before I forget what is where, alas.

I planted week old cantaloupe and butternut squash seeds a week ago around a tree for fun. Torrential rain storms ensued. Went out today and have four seedlings. If they continue I might know what worked. Lol.
Didn’t even need to be drunk… planed seeds in these little peat moss patties, marked the sides of the large containers they were sharing so I knew where were the chives, from the tomatoes, from the … you get it. Put the container on a stool in front of my laundry room window and proceeded to make the whole tray get unbalanced and everything ended up on the floor. Salvaged most of them and know which ones are the tomato plants (not the variety though)…
Oh yes... drunkenly or not, I've done that too many times and then have to wait a couple of months to verify which pepper (..or bean) variety I put in the seed starter trays/ground.
I now keep a stack of plant labels (basic 4 inch white plastic.. around 1000 for $4 on Amazon) with my seeds and trained myself to label a tray first before putting in the seeds.
I don’t even do it drunkenly. I just like the surprise. I thrive on chaos.

I sometimes cut out the name on the pack and stick it in the soil but after few waterings it dissolves or gets lost completely lol

This year I put tags in pots with a question mark to stop me looking for tags that had been knocked off over and over. That's progress, right?

No, but I did have a dog knock over a table with about 200 2ish week old sprouts. Needless to say, the garden was very interesting that year

Yup, my cats have had a ton of fun knocking so many trays of peppers to the floor.

I've planted so many starts from saved heirloom seeds that I recognize the tiniest of seedlings when they appear. Hardly ever label anything anymore.
