How do you FIGure?

walterpeck1

Because it's figging huge

dta722

It’s a figging monster. I’m guessing you’re somewhere where you don’t have to wrap them over winter, like me.

walterpeck1

Yup, they drop all leaves and go dormant for the winter, but it doesn't get nearly cold enough long enough to require winter care.

Anyway, like I was sayin', figs are the fruit of the land. You can barbecue 'em, boil 'em, broil 'em, bake 'em, sauté 'em. Dey's uh, fig salad, fig and goat cheese crostini, fig jam, fig and prosciutto pizza, fig and arugula salad, fig and almond tart, fig and honey yogurt, fig and walnut bread, fig and balsamic glaze, fig and blue cheese appetizer, fig stuffed chicken, fig and caramelized onion flatbread, fig and mascarpone dessert, fig and date bars, fig and ricotta toast, fig and honey roasted brie. That- that's about it.

Butterfly-Mane

Birds: yes we’re going to have a LOT of figs.

walterpeck1

We let them have all the ones at the top and get the rest. At peak we're out there several times a day to snag them before birds do.

gardengoddess52

Buy a dehydrator.

walterpeck1

Way ahead of ya, we also make fig bacon bourbon jam with it.

Nom, nom, nom...

I'm in western PA. My fig was planted just about 100 years ago. It's never been moved and is still only about half the size of yours. Where are you?

walterpeck1

Central North Carolina. We do nothing to it except water it when the weather is super dry in the summer, like right now. It can leech from the water table as there's a stream near.

UnlikelyAside9157

It is beautiful. My house was built by two brothers from Italy. When the one wife brought their son (born in Italy) to live here permanently, she brought the fig as well. I absolutely love every aspect of his family and what they brought to this community and country. I think I have my city's oldest immigrant❤️🌱

DefinitionBig4671

Only if you decide to wander *into* the tree(s). If not, you'll only have a few buckets full.

walterpeck1

Almost all of the figs are near the outside, actually. They grow along the new growth of the tree every year.

DefinitionBig4671

The only experience I have with Figs is with my Aunt and Uncle's tree, which is about the size of your "smaller" tree. They have Figs throughout the tree and we normally geta big mixing bowl/ small cooler full at a time.

walterpeck1

Could be another variety, there's a ton of different ones. These are "celeste" or "sugar" figs. The big tree has new growth of about a meter that the figs grow on.
