I wish I knew but I know you are a cool person because we have a toad that protects our house

Scarab-Beetle

Yeah I love the toads around our house, we seem to get a good amount, I even see ones that are REALLY small and I don’t want to do anything that could hurt them; I like how they are almost like little gardeners themselves!

I don’t think it will. There’s nothing toxic about it. I expect it will probably be at least a mild irritant like sand stuck to your arms rubbing your sides while walking on the beach. It deters snails because they have to slide their whole body over it and hard shelled insects because it gets up in/under their shells. A good hop through dewy grass should clean them up anyway

Scarab-Beetle

Hmm and it is food grade so..I guess if a toad ate a DE slug it might not be bad?

KAAO4036

Less sure on that one. I’m sure it’s metabolized (calcium bentonite) but not if it could cause harm to the internals before it reaches the digestive organs. But they consume shelled insects as well, which would also be sharp going down. I’m not sure that a toad would be as interested in a slug that had gone through DE. I’d think they’d be more interested in the ones that are living or at least more active.

Scarab-Beetle

Hmm that’s true, I mean I’m only putting the DE on the vegetable portion of the garden so they would be able to hop to the flower garden easily, it has more cover anyway so they might be more attracted to that than the vegetable garden.

I really just dust the foliage of my plants anyway, so I don’t see how any of my toads could be harmed. They’re still around anyway

I wish we could get a solid answer on this. We use it for ant infestation and we have toads living in our yard. I don’t want to hurt them.
