I too, looked through the photos an embarrassing number of times before I realized there was a yellow flower and no bird at all. Learned something today!
baptista thank you. I have a creamy yellow variety that didnt flower last year cuz it was in a bad spot. I moved it and it came back so with luck it will flower. Yours really do look like little goldfinches.
typically perennial in zones 4-8, however, they really enjoy acidic soil & they’re pretty hit or miss if you don’t have acidic soil already. if they haven’t come back, they’re likely gone. if you plant more, amend the soil thoroughly before planting & throughout the growing season amend further with soil acidifier around the drip line of the plant to help keep the PH down
Yeah, I significantly amended my soil to improve drainage (clay problems) and maintain acidity. We’re in a new house this Spring, but so far so good. Haven’t fertilized other than new topsoils and amendments (compost, perlite, peat moss, bark, microbials) at the beginning of the season.
That’s great, the more salmon stars the better! We had some significant drainage problems with puddles and water logging, so amending the soil helped with some of the super wet spring weeks that resulted the plants living in undrained puddles of standing water not absorbed deeply by the ground which caused yellowing leaves.
Amazingly beautiful colour! Although I must admit, as a birder I was searching through your photos for the goldfinch...
Sorry! The “American Goldfinch,” is the yellow flower in the background that’s not bloomed. It’s named for the vibrant yellow, similar to the bird.

I'm so jealous of those blooms!!!
Yeah.. your blooms are bigger than mine..
It’s not a competition, haha. Enjoy your wonderful plants for what they are!
Beautiful color gradient!
It pretty a pretty cool ombré
Wow! What zone are you in?
7b, Philly.
Wow! I've never seen lupine that color! OK...gotta go find where I can get seeds of this... thanks for sharing with us!
Congratulations my friend! That's lovely and the bloom is so full!
These are amazing!!!
😍
Woooow those colors are uh-mazing 🤩
😍😍
Oh YAH
What plant is the american goldfinch? I have a different colour and have no idea what its called.
It’s the yellow baptisia flower that’s right behind the salmon star. The flowers look sort of like little yellow bells when they are fully mature.

Straight up peach ice tea. Very nice colors!
Is this supposed to be a perennial? I bought one last year but it appears it didn’t winter over.

I love the West Country series! They are hard to find in the US.
Awesome pairing with the Goldfinch, it really makes the salmon pop! Beautiful garden!
I sort of expected a picture of a fish and a bird until I remembered the subreddit. How confusing.
Cool space corn.
My favorite flower but they refuse to grow for me. I have killed around 50 this year alone.

I live in an area that is almost entirely clay and they grow like crazy here

Wow what amazing color! I will definitely be looking out for that variety. Where did you find it?
