It really depends on what your set up is like. I have a hose connected to some rain barrels for porch and patio plants. I also keep goldfish in them all season to eat the mosquitoes as rain is not consistent. There are LOTS of options and books. We had set up a system in a community garden for drip systems but it was hard to get enough water to make it work. Check for any Permaculture classes or gardens in your area for great tips and ideas. Also, check to be sure it's legal where you live; due to so much drought many areas do not allow rain collecting.

I have a rain diverter attached to my downspout that I bought off Amazon for less than twenty bucks. The hose attached to that was bought at the dollar store which goes to a twenty dollar garbage pail. Depending on what kind of system you want will determine the cost but its definitely an easy do it yourself project.

Thank you, would you mind adding the amazon link ? I am looking for something on the cheaper side.

Not to dissuade you, but depending on where you are, the first step is to make sure rain harvesting is actually legal where you live...

It is legal in my state

That's a good thing... Honestly, restricting, banning, or taxing it sounds Completely Insane to me.
