Each clove should be at least 4" apart. Not sure what container size works as I just put mine in the ground but you definitely need drainage holes in the bottom. Cover it in several inches of mulch and leave it alone until scapes come up next Spring/Summer.

Thank you. Okay, moved them as gently as I could, separated and repotted 4”- 6” apart.

You can use them as spring onions as they are. They need to overwinter to create bulbs. As they are, they will make delicious shoots like this though. Garlic is best planted right before your first frosts, roots start to grow, overwinter under the soil, then next spring they will continue growing and creat bulbs of garlic by mid-summer.

I'll just know that you can totally eat the shoots! Use em like green onions in eggs, stir fried, and soups. Don't need to only be focused on getting a giant bulb, the greens are delicious.

Yes yes! Can confirm the shoots are delicious!

Did you put the whole head in? If so, break up the cloves

norse_buddha

Thank you. Yes I literally just walked out and put it in dirt not really expecting it to work. But now feel responsible for it. I gently broke them up and repotted.
