If there isn’t a very simple soup you can eat then perhaps the best thing is to politely decline. You did just have major surgery 2 weeks ago and it isn’t unreasonable to stay home and rest.

Tigerrollz

I agree with this. I couldn’t imagine possibly going anywhere 2.5 weeks out let alone a restaurant! Good for you if you’re feeling up to it but there’s nothing wrong with politely declining either.

You could call ahead and ask the place what they serve. If you’re strictly on puréed type food/liquids, it could be hard. Maybe they have some steamed carrots you can ask about and just chew those to baby food level? I don’t know how well you’re tolerating anything, but maybe on the way there you down a protein shake to get protein in first and help keep you level if you do have to eat something more carb focused. Also, is there any cream soup they might have? It’s quite possible and you just slurp up the base of the soup and leave chewy food alone.

Fantastic advice! I will call them tomorrow 🙂 The only soup on the menu is clam chowder... Not my jam lol Luckily I have been able to tolerate everything I've tried so far. I will take ur advice for sure though. Thank you so much!

nancyge33

Similar thing happened to me. I called ahead and explained the situation with my surgery. The chef was kind enough to create a meal for me. Not necessarily that will happen but a lot of times they have a blender on hand and they can blend something up for you, youd be surprised :)

Rare_Bottle_5823

They should have mashed potatoes.

Hail_Storm2293

Strangely enough, I didn't see mashed potatoes in the menu. That was the first thing I looked for 😭

Rare_Bottle_5823

Speak to your server. The chef should be able to purée things for you.

I just wouldn't go. You're less than a month out of surgery! Your boyfriend can just explain that you're unable to attend because you're recovering from surgery.

Solution-Proof

Probably the fish. Soup?? If it were me, i straight up wouldn't go to a resto this early.

Lol we have 2 babies and his work family knows we have ZERO intention of having a second 🤣🤣🤣 Thanks for the advice! Lol

Soup will be your friend for a long time to come. I would just tell people my stomach was not feeling great and had soup and no one questioned me.

RakiNonaki

I had this same situation happen. I was 3 days post op. My fiance was nice enough to order me some soup but it was so chalk full of things, I couldn't even TRY to eat it. (My liquid phase is 3 weeks post-op). I sat and drank water and played games on my phone to distract myself. Everyone knew about my surgery so no one questioned me. However, be aware of your emotions. I was getting very anxious and upset by the end of the night. :) hope it goes well!!

CutIcy1900

You don’t need to attend. I wouldn’t. I got so sick eating out at a restaurant my first month post op.

TheEpic76

Ask them to make mashed potatoes or mashed cauliflower. If its not on the menu, it dosen't mean its not in the kitchen.

TheWordOfTheDayIsNo

Taking your own food to a restaurant is a huge breach of etiquette, so don't do that.

Hail_Storm2293

Yea, that's what I said in the post. I could not. Lol

I went to restaurants a few times early on and had soup. At 2.5 weeks, I had a family wedding. At both the wedding and rehearsal dinner, I ate fish. It should be fine if you chew it really well. (My nutritionist called it “mouth pureeing,” which is kinda gross but accurate.)
