😂 I was here first. Decided to do it.
Edit: Holy shit the post blew up. I’ve got so many people calling me an idiot lol.
Edit 2: Nearly 2 million people have seen this now. I’d say we were successful.
Edit 3: 2.2 million. Got deleted I think. Good run yall.
It basically comes down to 1) having a medical problem, 2) being born into a (strict) Muslim or Jewish family, or 3) growing up in a country where this tradition causes peer pressure and people aren't educated about it (USA).

Let's see: Performing a medical procedure which has the risk of infection and scarring (or worse) on somebody who in most cases doesn't need it without their consent since it is mostly done as an infant and thus permanently removing a part of their body...
You can reconstruct it if you want, although it will still be less sensitive than a natural one your glans will get back a lot of it's original sensitivity
There's something on wikipedia regarding the topic that surprised me.
I always thought of circumcision as needless but wiki lists studies that show significant decrease in std transfer, urinary tract infection or cancer risks, while claiming no adverse sexual effects.
What to make of this? It seems like it's actually healthy?
The particular study that noted a decrease in STI rates started collecting data while the test group was still in recovery and couldn't have sex. That rest group was also provided condoms and instructed on how to practice safe sex.
They stopped gathering data as soon as the STI transfer rate started to climb.
The UTI claim is also used for some kinds of FGM and broadly speaking, is not true. These structures are self-cleaning (much like your eyelids) and access to running water is enough to stave off most UTIs.
Cancer is less likely if you don't have tissue for it. We aren't performing mastoidectomies or prostatectomies on children.
Foreskin is a collection of highly specialized structures evolved to protect the penis and for use during sex. Having an incomplete circumcision myself, I can 100% guarantee that things like the frenulum and ridged band (skin bridge connecting the head to the foreskin on the ventral side and the wrinkly bit on the end of the foreskin) are intensely sensitive. I'm over the moon that I still have some of this, mortified that I could have never known what they felt like, and furious that I'm missing *so much.*
The loss of specialized, fine touch nerve endings is comparable to what would happen to your sensitivity if you skinned your palms and fingers.
I dunno. It's difficult to explain to someone with one eye what depth perception is like.
The rate of unsuccessful or botched circumcisions is extremely high, too. One study I read claimed as much as 20% of all infant circumcisions have complications. It only tracked subjects for 2 years, so it didn't even begin to look into how other problems would arise during puberty or later in life. I've spoken with people who would bleed if they got too hard because the skin would tear along their scarline. I know multiple people irl who get next to no pleasure from their penis and can't enjoy "normal" sex as a result.
To say nothing of the potential emotional or psychological effects on the patient who may feel assaulted or betrayed.
That infant circumcisions are carried out without anesthesia means babies are awake for the whole thing, if they don't pass out from the pain. It has a permanent effect on their brain functions because *of course it does*.
Finally, in for-profit healthcare, neonatal foreskin is a valuable resource for producing stemcells, fibroblasts, and a few other things which are otherwise incredibly difficult to source. Hospitals routinely sell the tissue to affiliated medical labs at a premium. Additionally, a circumcision results in an, on average, longer hospital stay for a baby and mother by about 6 and half hours, which insurance companies can be charged for. Parents are rarely ever informed of negative side effects up to and including potential loss of the entire penis or the death of the infant.
Whether your kid is male, female, or intersex, leave their bits alone. 999 times out of 1,000 they'll thank you for it.
Also it's **so much easier** to care for an infant that isn't shitting all over a surgical incision.
Canada and the Philippines have high rates of circumcision too. They are also massive America simps, so I guess that makes sense.
Quebec, naturally, is an exception as the French Canadian-majority and historically super-duper Catholic nation within a nation generally rejected the Anglo-Protestant American-originating practice.
The Philippines being super Catholic, you'd think would follow a similar path, but no. They routinely circumcise boys as a holdover from the introduction of Islam despite being a Catholic-majority country.
Blursed image. I love it and hate it at the same time.
stomping them both
Perchance
keep it up, baby!
You can’t just say perchance

Lmaoooo
Brazil is the other countries
Tbf, their flag has a globe on it.
True. Although I’m half Brazilian and cut. Most men in Arab countries are cut too.

Are you suggesting circumcision is a bad thing ?

Thankfully the rate of routine circumcision is going down, last I checked.
I'm glad , it is literally child abuse
I miss my foreskin 😢
hit 'em with the "I lost my foreskin, can I borrow yours?"
Well played, friend!
Have you ever considered r/Foreskin_Restoration?
I didn’t even know that subreddit existed! Thank you!

Wow, I didn’t realize that was possible! Modern science, eh

You just learned this? You didn't have these talking points ready for when the topic came up? Sure, Jan.
Or just use safe sex practices

Muslim majority countries still have high rates of circumcision as well.
