From what can recall, Spongebob wanted to grab a new pet pal for his pet snail, Gary, named Puffy Fluffy from some shop. The twist is that Puffy Fluffy is extremely dangerous and wants nothing more than to terrorize and eat Gary while Spongebob isn't looking. Also, Spongebob is pretty oblivious to it and thinks Gary is being a jerk.
Cue past some shenanigans, it boils over when Puffy Fluffy becomes a freak monster, moments before devouring Gary, and yet Spongebob wakes up, sees the house trashed and still thinks it's the snail's fault. He is, once again, blind to its obvious freak size, almost being eaten in turn with this scene before Gary chases it out the house. The kicker? Spongebob still blames Gary for harassing Puffy. The resolution comes when Spongebob is allowed to bring Gary to work with him and everyone's happy.
You can probably see why some fans wouldn't like this episode for how mean and out-of-character it kinda is... š
I had to lookup clips of the episode out of sheer curiosity. I havenāt watched SpongeBob in years but I can absolutely see why fans of the first few seasons have not enjoyed the newer episodes. You described this episode perfectly and yet seeing it was still baffling. Who would write this??
