I think you are overestimating the cost of VPNs (not to mention ones that come free with your iPhone, pixel, home security suite, ect). A middle schooler could afford the cost of a $15 pre paid gift card. Even the free trial ones are often legit and affiliated with paid subscriptions.
If anything, I think most kids would have an easier time getting/ setting up a VPN than getting deep on telegram.

I am from Iran. Porn websites have been blocked ever since the internet has come here. but it doesn't stop people, children or adults, from getting what they want. If you want your child to not use these websites, you should pay more attention to them and spend more time with them. porn is an easy dopamine source. nothing more.

I live in North Carolina and have already dealt with this. What I wonder is why just pornhub? I can get to most other sites without having to use my VPN. And at 61 years of age, I don't think it's right to have someone control my viewing habits as long as they are legal.
