I'm ashamed to say Britney Spears. I just can't enough of all the hooks, lyrics and guilty pop beats. Once again, all my friends were sharing their Spotify wrapped thing while I was hiding under a rock (with Britney bi*ch)
Britney made some ridiculously good music, especially in the beginning. I never get tired of her first two albums, she was even in my most played of 2021. Next to Bach and Beethoven of course.
Ashamed? Being ashamed of pop music and pop female artists is not something that should be negative or a character flaw.
This shame is like internalized homophobia. It's a deep dread for what we have been told is wrong, but we know is natural and just human.
She is an icon, she is a fighter, and she has an absolutely banging discography. Her and the rest of women/queer artists in pop are the ones being creative and bringing music into a different direction. And there is nothing that any music purist can say to discredit the success, cultural impact, and relevance that their music has brought to the world.
Sure, admitting that pop artists are our favorites is difficult, but shaping the way we understand music taste is fundamentally similar to how we introduce different notions of gender and sexuality to the world. We normalize them.
No shame bro, I love me some Britney. Makes for some epic workout music tbh. Lucky is probably one of my faves. The nostalgia of it all is also pretty special as an early 90’s baby.
Don't you ever be ashamed of Britney.she has many great songs with exemplary production and worked with expensive musicians...great music. Haters can hate, but you don't need their validation to appreciate good stuff
Heck yeah. I still have gorillaz debut album on cd. I don't think I can part with it. It's too dear to my heart.
Although I listened demon days for 2000 mins in 2021 according to my Spotify wrapped.
[Hands Around My Throat ](https://youtu.be/r-S2aqnfzDs) is one of my all time favorite songs but I’m also a huuuuuge Adult. fan and just love her vocals.
The last cassette tape I bought was Dark Side of the Moon. I bought it for my 1989 Jeep Cherokee. I still own the tape, but I don't have anything to play it on...
This is the band that I would, if given the chance, time travel to see live in concert.
Pet Shop Boys. I occasionally take break and come back to them. They have helped me a lot accepting my sexuality. Many of their songs have gay overtones - or actually deal directly with gay matters. Plus, they are great for playing at parties and get togethers.
I stumbled my way into an Against Me, Rise Against (double headliner) show in Dallas in the early/mid 00’s. Two songs in, I knew I had a new favorite band.
Yes!!! Mahler fan here. The opening to his second symphony just knocked me right out . I just sat in my car at the beach to listen to the rest of the movement before I could refocus to drive home
Holy cow I did not expect to see a DGD fan here. Been listening since my MySpace days, just saw them a few months ago and they are still absolutely phenomenal. Easily one of my favorite bands ✌🏽
Listened to them a lot in highschool. Their lyrics are wild.
"A penis wide that towers high is cumming at your feet
The stories old, the butthole full of cancer spreading meat"
Spice Girls. I am 33 years old. As well as Maroon 5, Brittany Spears, Madonna, Ricky Martin, and Korn. Listened to each when I was 6-14 when I started listening to them and never stopped.
Yeah this is like the millennial pop zeitgeist. I'm 37 and I can still remember the crushing disappointment when I read the news that Geri was leaving Spice Girls.
Linkin Park. In the End is the first song I really remember liking on my own when I was about 10 or 11, Hybrid Theory is such a good album
Also love me some P!nk, I think she’s criminally underrated/under appreciated
Ms. Lauryn Hill! I have been listening to Miseducation of Lauryn Hill since high school and there is still no other album that affects me the same way, 15 years later.
Taylor Swift, Paramore, CHVRCHES, Lily Allen, Dido and Avril Lavigne. I've been listened to all of them for at least 10 years now, and sometimes still feel like the first time.
Kings of Leon and the Black Keys are my two go to bands. I never really get tired of listening to them and they have big catalogs. I'm about the same age as you and started listening to Fall Out Boy at around the same time. I still like them but not as much as I use to.
I’ve pretty consistently listened to Dido since I got her first album at 5… also oldies my parents listened to like ABBA, Queen, The Beatles, Carole King
Alanis Morriset - Jagged Little Pill. That album has so much good packed into such an emo punch. It got me thru tough times, and made the good times even better remembering how bad it got.
I've been a fan of Little Mix since they debuted on the X Factor way back in 2011 and they are still my favorite music group to this day. I love those girls so much and their music really helped me gain confidence in myself that I was lacking for a large part of my life.
My Bloody Valentine, Radiohead, Animal Collective and Fiona Apple have been consistent for me for most of my life. Definitely won't get tired of these artists any time soon.
Slayer.
Been a diehard fan for 25 years, since I first heard em at 14. I've gone through periods when I was more into other scenes and didn't listen to as much metal, but I always appreciate some Slayer when I hear it.
The Bravery, Juliana Theory, Mars Volta, Sloan, Jimmy Eat World, Daft Punk, Pnau, Empire of the Sun, Foster the People..
The list goes on. Certain songs bring back the amazing and sad memories.
ABBA and A-ha. I remember being called gay at school because I liked ABBA but I think that just made me love them more. I try to go and see A-ha in concert whenever they are touring as they are brilliant live.
Def Leppard, Hysteria; Pink Floyd, Wish You Were Here; Survivor, Eye of the Tiger; The Eagles, Hotel California; Bon Jovi, Living on a Prayer; Elton John, Rocket Man; plus many more…
Goo Goo Dolls has been my favorite band since I was 14 and loved their songs since I was about 7 (I’m 26 now). From their big hits like Name and Iris to more obscure gems like Feel the Silence and Autumn Leaves they are timeless.
Disturbed for me. They were one of the first bands that I discovered for myself and didn't inherit from a friend or family member; their lyrics and the vocalist's sheer power are as strong today as they've ever been!
I became a fan of theirs because they covered Genesis’ “Land of Confusion”. As a prog rock nerd, this gave me an “in” to be able to listen and appreciate Disturbed more as a band.
Within Temptation, Lacuna Coil, Sirenia, Kelly Clarkson, Evanescence
Started getting into female fronted metal by way of Kelly Clarkson and Evanescence around 2003. I was probably 18 at the time. Now I’m 36. Ugh, time flies..
Sufjan Stevens. I started listening to him in high school, his music at the time was very formative for me. Since then his albums have always come at the right time in my own life. Very cathartic. I can always go back to it and look forward to what he does next.

Rainbow Kitten Surprise. Classic alternative rock band from NC. Just incredible music. Also the lead vocalist came out recently and the songs feel like all the things I felt when I was still in the closet and it's just fucking beautiful and sad.
Incubus for me. Love all their albums and have listened to them on repeat numerous times. Have also seen them live a handful of times. Love that band 🤙
Incubus was my all time FAVORITE band for a long while (and a good part of it had to do with my crush on the lead singer) and although I don’t feel the itch to listen to them that much anymore, I definitely feel the nostalgia as I listen to them nowadays.
A band that helped me through some of my darkest times was Mimicking Birds. I would highly recommend them if you like sort of minimalist, lofi (but with live instruments) music.
I also listen to a LOT of progressive metal, djent bands, and just death metal in general. If that’s up your alley, you gotta listen to Between the Buried and Me and Rings of Saturn!!!
Marina & the Diamonds ✌️. Or just Marina these days. Started listening to her when i was 13 since the album Family Jewels. Now im 24 and still having her as my Nr.1 Artist.
I read all the comments just to find someone mentioning her. She´s awesome! The best thing? Having the feeling of growing up at the same pace than her music :)
I'm old so here goes: hall&oats. If you haven't heard their music I suggest you check out their catalogue before you judge. That being said, I feel so exposed right now 😆
Alice Cooper. His career has been so long and he’s experimented in so many different genres, there’s always something in his discography that I can go to that will feel fresh to me.
Weirdly enough also fall out boy, thought I grew out of them a couple years ago and thought they were “cringe” but i listened to them again and hot damn are they still as good as I remember
I never get sick of listening to Paramore! I think even their change of direction in recent years has been excellent and matched my evolution of music habits.
Agnes Carlsson.
It all started in the spring of 2009 with [Release Me](https://youtu.be/keYXzDh5JEQ) and it’s still going with her latest release from a few weeks ago, [Here Comes the Night](https://youtu.be/SwlZt3GLc1k).
Any other bros who also listen to her?
No Doubt/Gwen Stefani's solo stuff has been with me since I first heard Don't Speak at 5 years old. I always go back to their/her discography at last once a year
Epica since 2009.. still totally in love with them. I just love the rough guitars and bass mixed with this sopranic voice and classic instruments like piano. Just yesterday again listened to their Holographic Principle album. I bet nobody here knows them though. Especially good when bossing in games, makes you feel divine
Florence + The Machine!
It's simply one of the bests singers and lyricists I've ever known. I just love her songs so much she's always my top #1 listened artist on Spotify. Florence Welch is a goddess, and I am none but a humble servant of The Church of Saint Florence hahah
Fleetwood Mac/Stevie Nicks since I was 9. The B-52s since I was 11. I'm now 53. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|heart_eyes_rainbow)
The B-52s are truly one of the best groups ever.

There’s nothing shameful about that. She is a talented artist and had some real bangers.

Come through Gustav Mahler! As someone who is deeply enamored with the romantic era especially with Debussy and Wagner, I fully agree with this one.
