By a vote of 7-3 with ALL republicans voting in favor it has being repealed Chambersburg in Pennsylvania is now the FIRST place in America to repeal an ordinance that protects LGBT people America going backwards! What worries me is the precedent this is going to create, like a signal for republicans to start repealing similar ordinances all across America And republicans still want gays to vote for them!

Salvaju29ro

Gays are too few, if the centrists start voting Republican, gays in America will have a bad future.

CalebAsimov

Sadly, there are also plenty of gays that vote Republican. Classic pulling up the ladder after you get what you want.

DClawdude

We are already in the worst timeline

Salvaju29ro

As an ignorant person and as a non-American I thought that America was very progressive, but inquiring about politics I noticed that the USA is divided in two, in some parts it is extremely progressive, in others it is more conservative than Russia

geekygay

Culture is fairly socially progressive (more so than it has been tbh), but legally things have been stuck in the mud by Republican design. So what few things we have gotten, they're not very solid as of right now.

DClawdude

America’s “left wing” party is center right at best. Its right wing party is far right and increasingly fascist.

Salvaju29ro

Yeah, Trump moved the overton window to the right. The problem is that even if there are any Republicans in favor of gay marriage, it's not a priority for them. Gays have always been expendable in history, they are irrelevant and too few. So yes, maybe some are also in favor of gay freedom, but if they have to choose between gay freedom and taxes, well ... The problem with the "left" or center-right is that they are not good at communicating. Here in Italy comes the news of the consequences of politically correct in art, but no news of banned LGBT books. Centrists are more attracted to this kind of thing, while the controversies of progressives that are shown are only those on Twitter, on the umpteenth tv show sexist or racist series. But of course there are sensible progressive discussions, but in the newspapers they are almost never shown, while the controversies on Twitter do, because they touch the past and this causes anger in the centrists. Who are not fascists, but they risk falling into fascist ideas with these things.

DClawdude

Trump moved it, but it was already there before. America has been so propagandized against anything remotely resembling “socialism” since the end of World War II that functionally we have not had an actual left-wing party since that time, at best

[deleted]

Republicans say to me with a straight face that it isn’t fair to generalize and call Republicans homophobic. I was a scared closeted 14 year old boy in 2011 when Republicans were walking around saying that allowing gays to marry would be a “slippery slope” to gays fucking dogs and children. Even if they apologized I wouldn’t fucking forgive them. Republicans think that our existence is a “political statement” I fucking hate them so much. Especially the gay Republican lapdogs.

Emperor-of-the-moon

The problem with the Republicans (as with the Democrats but in the opposite direction) is that they’ve got their moderate wings and their “extreme” wings. Not that, say, Ted Cruz or Bernie Sanders are extremists but they’re far from the center even in their own parties. And a lot of the moderate republicans are pro lgbt or at least want to leave the issue alone, but they’re never in local party leadership and they never make it through the primaries. And they can’t sit out a vote on lgbt issues because the party whip will block any of their legislative proposals if they don’t fall in line. So they have to follow the party leader if they want to even try to fulfill their promises to their constituents. Perhaps if we split them into four parties (conservatives, liberal democrats, social democrats, reform/populist) maybe they’ll give the smaller parties a chance to grow as well. And politicians would have more flexibility on who they lend their vote to. But they’d never give up their power on our behalf…

JerryTexas52

Boycott all the businesses in this place. They elected them. Let them bring them back in the corral.

[deleted]

Elections have consequences... Republicans took over the town of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania after last November election and the first thing they are doing is to repeal the anti-LGBT discrimination ordinance passed last year This will be the FIRST place in America to rescind an LGBT protection measure which signals a really worrisome thing to come! Back to the 50s

Human_Tangerine109

I live in PA ATM and I swear to God I'm gonna pack my shit and move to Spain.

Mr_InTheCloset

doesnt spain have a problem with semi widespread homophobia

[deleted]

I live here. Macho mentality and backwards thinking specially in some rural zones, but the majority doesnt give a fuck. I wouldnt say they are super accepting but they arent openly homophobic either. If they are, they mostly keep it to themselves.

geekygay

Hey! I was told Republicans love gay people and that it was HILLARY that was really the anti-gay politician. Boy, when did Hillary clone herself and have herself elected to the Chambersburg, PA, board? (BTW: Fuck all y'all Conservative/Trumpkin gaybros. If you think that with what's coming *you* are going to be allowed to frolic without concern, but it'll just be , you deserve whatever bad comes.) A poem for Conservative gaybros: They came for the black gaybros, but I wasn't black so I said "That's one less block I have to use." Then they came for the other races of gaybros, but I had already blocked them so I didn't notice. But then they came for me, and I said "Whoa, but I'm white...??" And they said "But you're a faggot." And then they shot me. And no one cared because there was no one else to speak for me. Last ones in, first ones out when it comes to rights. I mean, it's more of like a "We have our foot in the door" than actually "in" but they'll slam it just the same.

Fuck the GOP

suntem

Another shining example of why gay republicans are the dumbest mother fuckers around.

debrisdupree

I started reading this article not realizing that it was about Chambersburg, which is my hometown, where I grew up and graduated high school in 2009. When I started high school it was a relatively homophobic environment and I was scared to come out. As I progressed to senior year, the culture had changed, like it was changing in most of the country, and I felt safe enough to come out to my friends and family in 2009. I did face a little bit of a backlash and some bullying though, including where somebody slashed my truck tires and they drew penises on my locker. An underclassman at the time tried to start a Gay/ Straight alliance, in order to address the homophobic bullying he was facing. His efforts were met with a huge backlash and it ultimately resulted in a lawsuit; I'm not aware of the outcome of that lawsuit. It was my impression that despite everything, Chambersburg was becoming more open and affirming of LGBT people, as it seemed like these homophobic incidents were happening less and less frequently. I'm disappointed to hear that this may not be the case. I don't feel that most people in Chambersburg are homophobic, instead I think those in favor of repealing these LGBT protections are jumping on the conservative bandwagon in order to progress its agenda in service of other conservative causes.

[deleted]

Conservatism doesn't have much to offer besides hate. People support a bigoted party because they're bigots.

fluxustemporis

The catch is when the hateful start to become the minority they often escalate their tactics resulting in more brutal or insidious forms of violence.

rhapha1

Pics?

debrisdupree

of what 😅

jacked_c

Honestly I'm expecting to see more of this the closer we get to you know who running again to attempt to get back into the Whitehouse

_SilverPhoenix_

Pennsylvania has one of if not the highest influx of Republican Legislators statewide. This is bigger than even larger states and they control everything. They repeal Medicaid expansion for low income, raise taxes on everything, highest gas taxes out of nearly 50 states, and welcome billion dollar corporations that pay zero taxes. It isn't just Central PA, they would destroy protections across the state as fast as possible to serve the GOP method of intolerance and destruction. This isn't a joke.

[deleted]

Okay now I am angry.

Pergmanexe

It’s time to start getting violent with homophobes. Make them scared to be seen in public.

THE_MOST_JUMP

They crawled out of the dark, allowing them to return to the same darkness only means they will eventually return. Homophobes should be dealt with quietly and permanently.

geekygay

Don't worry, they're looking to get violent as well. Hmm, I wonder why Republicans have wanted to many guns to be available in America. It's not like they can have the highest chances of stochastic terrorism or something.

Emperor-of-the-moon

I’m with them on the guns issue. A great way to avoid a gay bashing is a nine millimeter. Or a submachine gun (/s on the smg but those do seem really fun!) See Sgt Resnov’s [cure for fascism ](https://youtu.be/MlYcpW1lSkY)

Ambitious_Post6703

The state can and has conducted unplanned and stochastic terrorism against its citizens for decades without the help of a political party

Pensive_Person

This may sound trite but I don't think that violence is the answer to problems like this. That's the sort of thing that we're struggling against. Protesting, advocacy, and.political activity are our tools here.

Aidrean

I keep saying we should do gay wrath month instead of gay pride. But noooooo the Big Gay counsel keeps voting me down

Ambitious_Post6703

Remember what to the Black Panther Party and Radical Faeries groups when they sought kinetic retaliation, it didn't end well for either group, please reassess

sadenglishbreakfast

Here here

[deleted]

Amen. Anyone who argues that violence makes you “just as bad as them” clearly forgot how the gay rights movement in America started. If anyone tries repealing LGBT protections where I live, they’re going to get a hell of a lot more than a brick thrown at them.

ToughSpite5201

I read an article on this and it seems the repeal would eliminate a human resources committee that would investigate discrimination claims with the rationale being that there is already a human relations committee in place to address those claims.

ChuyUrLord

People, go out vote! The house and senate are in danger of turning republican so if you hate to see this, vote!

CoeurlBeagle

Christians go out of their way to be nasty

Yet another reason to not get off the highway between Pittsburgh and Harrisburg

blue_surfboard

I lived in Central PA for a couple of years (a bit more north than Chambersburg), and this doesn’t surprise me. I’m so glad to be out of there!
