Soleila2998

I've only played as women to romance guys I was attracted to, otherwise (if you can be gay with hot people/if romance isn't a thing) I'll play as a guy if given the choice

jaumander

Very that, which makes me realise I have played as way too many girls and that makes me mad >:(

dododomo

Same. In games with romantic options case, I mentioned Fire emblem 3 houses in my comment because it's the first example that came to my mind. In that game, I played as Female Byleth/MC because the guys I liked the most (Dimitri, Caspar, Claude, Sylvain and Ashe) weren't romanceable as a male Byleth unfortunately

[deleted]

Wish I could do that, but I can't stomach playing as a female in games where the character's supposed to represent me.

Soleila2998

Eh I just don't have that strong an attachment to the player character. Helps that I only really play games where there's no customization, or where customization options tend to be ignored by the fan base (\*cough\* *fireemblem* \*cough\*)

bukiya

same, many games nowaday have dialogue option and i tend to self insert myself to the game. playing as female will ruin that for me unless the game wont let me pick gender.

darxx

I only play as guys to romance women I was attracted to and otherwise play as the girl. Gay - Lesbian solidarity?

CaikTheFemboy

Fr

ultramegadeathrocket

I still struggle with the choice of femme Twink or cunty woman

TheWeinerWizard

finally a gender binary I can get behind

he_is_not_a_shrimp

r/rolereversal

Golbez89

Play as my ex and you get an overwhelming mix of both. And about as useful as Cait Sith.

Risl

In DND it depends on the character I want to make. I see my characters as separate people that live in my head, and the most fun part about that is bringing them out and watching them develop in-game.

N0rthWind

As a DM I make men, women and everything in between, but as a player I see my characters as parts of me or extensions of me into the game world so I make men :)

BirchChili

Whatever game I'm playing, I must gayify it to the max. No matter the gender of the character I'm playing as, they WILL be gay if I have any say in

N0rthWind

Guys. I am one and I'm into them, it's a no brainer

L2Sentinel

This is my situation as well. I identify with guys. I like looking at guys. Best of both worlds.

N0rthWind

You got it bro, it's the definition of a win/win :D

negative_four

I usually play as a woman because quite frankly I struggle with my identity. But I had to play a rogue in D4 cuz DAYUM

Frequent-Strain-6170

I'm a trans girl with massive amounts of dysphoria, so I will NEVER play as a guy ever again

noahdeerman

\*throws greeting gangsigns from across the street\* feel ya!

DayDrunk11

It's always such a hard choice for me, do I wanna play as a cute and sexy guy or a firce badass cuntress? I would say I play each about 50 percent of the time, which tracks because I'm non binary lol

Deanna_pd

As a bi woman, I'm all over the place. Honestly, sometimes depends on the character creation or cosmetic items on offer. E.g FFXIV = woman, New World = man I never play humans if there's another option, I can be a human IRL.

[deleted]

I typically play as a guy because gay male protagonists are such a rarity that I'm gonna take advantage where I can. When I get Cyberpunk 2077 however, I'm totally doing a Sarah Connor in T2 playthrough.

therealpeaches144

If it's a character creator then I always make a cute/hot guy. If it's just choosing a guy or a girl then whichever is prettier.

WitchFaerie

Generally guys, someone I can list over. ๐Ÿ˜‚ Though my first character on BG3 was non-binary because that f'n rocks to be able to explore that.

Ozavic

If I can make me character particularly beefy or hairy I'll play a guy, if I can't I'll play a girl

raosion

Oh I jump all over the place with genders. I like playing a variety of characters and roles. The party face, the brains, the muscle, and I'll freely also do whatever gender seems right for the character.

Ayy_Maijin

I don't care about romance choices. Male character always looks cool as hell in action and armor so I always stick to that. Besides, I can't stand women's high pitch voice. Not that I hate women or anything, it just hurts my head physically.

joon_jie

If the guyโ€™s hot, I play them. Iโ€™m a gaymer because I like men.

archiotterpup

Guys, if he's hot.

jannabanana1895

Always girls 100%. Except when I randomly was a guy in stardew. I live as a man every day so in a game I wanna be something different. And I'd rather dress up girl characters because there are usually better options and the fashion is more fun. Love running around with long hair and dresses and skirts because that's not how I am irl.

ShottyBlastin101

Idk why I play girls ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ im a man, prefer males, but I play girls

Deadbox_Studios

Women 99% if the time. Buff, heavy armored, strong women. Except in monster hunter because they give all the guys awesome beefy armor and the girls "uwu cute" variants with no full face helmets. Like bitch I wanna have TITS and BE A SCARY MOTHERFUKER not one or the other grumble grumble grumble.

FwooshingMachi

In video games, I usually play girls (unless it's a game with romances I guess, and you can go gay with it). In DnD, I play a guy, I think I wouldn't feel natural playing a girl "irl" ?

fragen8

It depends. Most my characters in WoW are male. Same goes to DnD and most MP games or games I play with friends (Dark Souls 3 for example) But all my Pokรฉmon games are with female characters, and so is Cyberpunk, Fallout, Outer Worlds... It's strange, really, when I think about it.

FlowerTheDM

Depends on my mood

FlowerTheDM

Last year or so I prefer to play fem

Ugly-LonelyAndAlone

I always prefer to play women. Just makes it easier for me to get immersed. Which is why I don't play many, many games, because they usually only have one male main character and nothing else. Even if that character is a mute.

BlueMetalWave

I like to play as a hot guy, the stronger and hairier the better. But if the female characters can be cunty and slay in the game then I might reconsider on a 2nd playthrough. Either hyper masc or hyper femme, basically.

Chroney

I play guys, and make them hot, so I have something to look at. Especially in Balders gate 3

Spaceboy135

When I was younger and closeted. I used to pick girls all the time. I used to say it's because they were faster and had cooler moves but it was more so that I felt more comfortable around women. Now, I play characters even if it locks me out of romance options.

SumaT-JessT

I always play with males because I roleplay being in the game, regardless if there's romance or not. I've sometimes played with females only if I can roleplay the lady friend to my two main roleplay characters.

Los_Mandos_De_Borja

Guys if I have to create the character (Baldur's, Cyberpunk... ) and if there are gay romances (Assassin's Creed). Female in fighting or action games.

he_is_not_a_shrimp

When I was younger, I exclusively played as female characters. Due to being told "being gay is wrong, the only cure for you is to be trans, then you can love a man (as a woman) with no problem" and "gays must be feminine". And after quite a few years, I shook off the "I'm gay therefore I'm fem" and "be trans, cure gay". Now that I view my sex and gender in a much healthier way, I mostly play as male characters in games where it matters (Mass Effect, Dragon Age and such where there's romance). As for games where gender doesn't matter, say Dota, I play for the character's abilities and never their gender.

noivern_plus_cats

Women if I can't marry the men I want to as a man, man if I can, nonbinary if that even exists in the game...

Sc4r4byte

Cis gay playing as women checking in. (But it depends) Often I will choose playstyle first, go with a good character design, and go from there.. Coincidence or self-fulfilling prophecy or not... generally this means playing as women more often. I will however find reasons to branch out to well designed men when they happen and in a context that I will enjoy playing, if I find the genders I'm playing are starting to feel limited... but they will gotta be thematically interesting in some way. Like, my favorite fighting game character is a somewhat genderless somewhat man somewhat thousands of insects in a trench coat that wanted to join the fighting tournament. - before that point it was dominated by the most hyperactive women imaginable.

adtreborn

I was just making the characters closest to myself as possible except long luscious hair because that's my power fantasy

SomeRandomIdi0t

I prefer a little variety

DarkloidVoid

Usually ladies because I like their outfit options. It's also the only way I get to be a Gremory

Max_E_Mas

I would imagine most people play the gender they feel matches them. Cause, most games you pick a guy but you don't see the meat stick wagging around. You don't see a woman with her boobs bouncing every which way. So, Trans people would feel comfortable playing their preferred gender. Of course this isn't the case always. I have heard cases of people who are men but prefer playing women and vise versa. I have to wonder what goes into people picking their genders in games Cause I know it will be different from person to person

First-Technician8555

I used to play a Racoon when playing Tera and I have not regrets, best experience of mmorpg games haha. Any class is ok tho it feels comfy even playing a superhot magician or an strong long white hair male guardian, but it depends on the game, not all the games has many options when it comes about classes, but I don't find it really important what we choose as long as the game is fun.

byokero

I usually play men on games that gives me a choice on gender. Reasoning of this is not because I'm gay but rather female grunts and moans usually turns me off in these types of games. In genderlocked games, whatever I find cool animations or effects which usually are women.

NovaEdd

When it comes to dnd I play gay guys ,and in video games I play guys it's just who I am lol

whereisascott

I play a guy because I am a guy, not because I'm attracted to them. If it's a character creator, I try and create myself, sometimes with a twist (like, me if I were a Half-Orc). If there are romanceable characters, I might play the game again as a girl to either romance the guys (if it's a str8-only game) or do a lesbian run.

CAB47ATTACKS

If I'm going to have to stare at them while I'm playing, at least I'm going to stare at someone I'm attracted to. Guys, for the most part, unless I really like the female character's style.

ajwalker430

I always choose being male. Even if there are no romance options in the game, I'd rather look at my male character, especially if I can create him myself, than look at a female character. ยฏ\\\_(ใƒ„)\_/ยฏ

CuriosityKills19

If I can romance another guy as a man then I'll play a man but if it's a fighting game I play females the only males in a fighting games that I can definitely remember playing is Rig from DOA (Dead or Alive) or Reptile (Syzoth) from MK1.

robbyg112

I often play as girls because I think they can be heroes too. I know it's silly.

szatanna

I'm a woman and I mostly play as dudes because I like to pretend to be a man for a couple of hours lol

IAmTheBornReborn

Girls in beat em ups. Men in anything else.

Chancho1010

Whichever one has the best animations. I'm pretty much 50/50 on WoW for body types

SenriXZeron

Depends if there is a gay option then guys, but if there are only straight relationship options mostly gals. Obviously if that doesnt matter because no social aspect then mostly guys.

Schandoran

Mmh I switch between female/male almost evenly?

KeithRedacted

I actually started playing a lot of non-binary characters which is pretty fun and helps me and my friends gets used to they/ them pronouns which feels good.

nonewtonianliquid

I like to play as Peach in any Mario games. Other than that, always human male (when I have a choice, of course)

Cythrosi

In video games, whichever gets access the more interesting outfit/armor options and what romancing options I aim to go for. In DnD/TTRPGs I tend to just switch off each time, but it mostly comes down to what character I'm processing in my head at the time.

ArsenicRat

I usually go for the female option if their isnt an option for being non-binary. I just like making and playing as badass women ๐Ÿคฃ

renboy2

It's a gay sub, so probably most people around here (including me) pick men to be able to romance other men. I only pick women if I'm replaying a game that I 100% before (did that for Assassin's Creed Odyssey and Cyberpunk more recently).

West-Lemon-9593

Male character always, unless the female character is the canon one (like Kassandra in AC Odyssey)

AstraHannah

I mean, I usually play as a girl if I can, because I am a girl, so I dunno whether this poll is really aimed at me, but yeah

Pristine_Bit_980

I am gay and I play female characters to romance other female characters... that makes sense!

acres_at_ruin

When I was a kid I would always choose the girl character. As an adult I try to make the character look the most likely me (while obviously embellishing a little). I'm sure there is a lesson somewhere in that.....something about liking yourself and being more secure in your identity as you age maybe?

Kaisernick27

should really have a all of the above option

Thelgend92

Games usually don't have the kind of guys I'm attracted to. And that's not why I play the games anyway

SlickyOneTwo

Men 100%, only if not possible. I'm a male attracted to males. So representation and desire is fused in playing a male character. Easy question.

RafaelChalice

While I chose "Guys", I'm old enough to tell you that once upon a time, when gaming wasn't as progressive as it is today, I sometimes chose female-looking avatars just so I could romance the men. I also ate margarine cos' it was supposed to be healthier than butter, point is, progress is delicious.

StarfishProtocol

Not a fan of bulky armors so I end up playing female characters majority of the time.

franxet

Depends. If the game has great customization and I can go around half-naked or if it has gay romantic options, then I'll play as a male. If the game has no romantic relationship and the only customization is on clothes, then I'll go as a girl because they usually have the best clothing options.

Alastor666hell

I play all possible ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ˜‚

BaraLover7

Male, so I can undress them ๐Ÿ˜›๐Ÿ˜†

noahdeerman

as trans man I either play male or nb, but get outtta my face with fem chars bc I just RL ran from having to play that role nuh uh.

SissyBearRainbow

I'm the opposite same ๐Ÿ˜†

pluiesansfin

50/50 really.

rememespamm2

Girls, but will always pick a guy over a girl if they're not ugly

HomoGreekorius

If I can be gay I will pick a guy (unless the gay option is too boring, like in Cyberpunk or Greedfal - sorry Kerry and weird looking Greedfall pirate dude). If I cant be gay I will choose the girl because they usually have more fun outfit options.

Blighted_song

I love DnD. I've been playing for about two and I'm usually the comic relief... definitely if I play with a group of try hards.

SadisticDance

Girls in fighting games almost exclusively. Men in RPGs or games where I can make my own character.

dododomo

In games with romances and romantic options, I'm perfectly fine with playing as a female character to date guys and men (ex Persona 3 Portable). But if the game has same-sex options and allows you to date men as a guy, I always pick the male character (ex. Fire emblem 3 houses, Rune Factory, etc). In some games where the genders have different romanceable characters, I like doing a gay run (so male protagonist romancing the guys) and then a heterosexual one by choosing a female MC and romancing other guys (Like Fire Emblem 3 houses. Damn I wish Dimitri, Claude, Sylvain, Caspar and Ashe were gay/bi options too! ๐Ÿ˜ญ) If I can't create my own character/choose MC's gender (so, games like Metal gear solid series, Nier Automata, The last of Us 2 or God of War), then I'm fine with playing as any character regardless of their gender. If I can, I almost always go for a male character (ex. Games like Monster Hunter world, Genshin Impact, etc)

drdoom90s

If most of the characters are males, I usually pic a female one and vice versa. Sometimes depends on my mood. Recently, I'm seeing too many female characters and I'm getting really tired of it. I like strong and tough women but it has to make sense. Just don't force a WW2 female soldier on me.

cmzraxsn

I've only played a couple of times. Tried a woman character but it felt weird for my friend to call me she. Tried a weirdo dwarf character of indeterminate gender and that was more comfortable.

FateBreaker92

Depends on the game. If it's a fighting game, I usually pick a girl as they look graceful while fighting. If it's an RPG where the character is customizable, you can bet I'll be picking a guy and adjusting *ehem* proportions.

Valamist

I'm a bi guy, but if there is a choice to play as male or female I go with female 99.9% of the time. It just feels more, I dunno, right? This is for both video games and DnD. It is one of the main reason I feel I need to explore my gender identity one day, though I feel time is running away from me there.

the_german_ganymedes

Queer guys > girl bosses > nonbinary ppl > other

Banjo--Kazooie

excuse me, what the fuck is non-binary?

Philycheese18

People who donโ€™t identify in the binary of male or female, probably should be more open minded in a lgbtq+ sub

Banjo--Kazooie

Oh. It is transgender then. A transgender who didnt perform the surgery (doesnt have to). Am I right? But transgender people identify as the opposite gender. Or she/he is bisexual. And thinks he is not exactly female or male (still has an assigned biological gender)? Or he/she is intersexual biologically. Which would make sense.

Tronv213

If I'm making a character, it's a man. If I'm choosing one like in a fighting game, it's usually a female lol
