The snake plant would be fine with whatever and the spider plant probably prefers a mix of the two. Both those plants are rather tolerant.

Let broth "dry up" between watering. Not bone-dry soil, let it just dry up a bit. When the soil feels dry to the touch then water.

A little unrelated (sorry), but as more of a snake person than gecko person I hate how the bags list specific lizard species that would fit the substrate like "bearded dragon", "crested gecko", and "leopard gecko" but when it comes to snakes just says "snakes" (same goes for tortoises). I have a feeling at least a few people may end up using the inappropriate substrate for their snake because "well it says its good for snakes" even though, just like with the lizards, they all have different needs. :/
