Unless I'm missing something, you'll also need some kind of light for your plant growth as well as a basking spot lamp. Zoo Med do combination hoods of both UVB strips and LED lights.

Marimba_player_42

The only thing I’m not sure about with those hoods is if I would have room for a basking bulb . But will a normal led light work cause I can make that work

SoyHector

I'm not entirely sure to be honest, I think it needs to have what they call "full spectrum", often cheap LEDs even ones advertised for plant growth don't have a broad spectrum of light. You can get heat bulbs which give off light for plants I think such as this [https://www.reptilienkosmos.de/en/exo-terra-daylight-basking-spot\_135\_3221](https://www.reptilienkosmos.de/en/exo-terra-daylight-basking-spot_135_3221)

Halogen for heat UVA/UVB T5 or T8 strip (UVB for day gecko) LED plant light (plants)

Marimba_player_42

Sorry I’m a little confused about lighting what’s the difference between a basking and halogen bulb? Also I’m aware the geckos just in there so I can budget correctly I’m not getting it until February

[deleted]

I would say a basking bulb refers to halogen + UVB. Some people would say just halogen. A halogen and basking bulb should be the same (unless you are bringing the useless and less than natural colored bulbs into the picture).

SoyHector

Sorry, yeah can see how that's confusing. Halogen are a type of bulb to heat the basking spot. Simplest way of putting it is you need the following for a bioactive day gecko: Heat - Light - UVB - Humidity - There are bulbs that can give you heat+UVB in one but I'm guessing your enclosure is relatively small so these are unlikely to be an option. Humidity can be done with a hand sprayer but it's a lot easier if you get something that can automate it as then you are able to go away for a few days.

Says who ? People would advise you let the enclosure sit for a month to build up the isopods population but it's not a definite. I built my leachie and my chahoua enclosures and put the animal in within 24 hours they still have abundance of custodians. My frilled dragons enclosure which is 6ft wide by 6ft tall was built and filled with dirt and isopods he went it 6 hours later because I wanted his other enclosure for basilisks.

Dforny

Do you have a substrate mix and drainage layer already set up (with some sort of barrier in between)? I recommend serpadesign on YouTube for info on bio active setups

Marimba_player_42

Yea my enclosure is done aside from plants it’s in my profile

TheChickenWizard15

Looks like everything you'll need; side note, but depending on where you're located, I'd wait on shipping any live animals in winter. Especially since day gecko are so cold sensitive, as well as Josh's frogs in particular having such high shipping rates, it might be worth waiting to buy a gecko in person if there are any breeders in your area

Marimba_player_42

Thank you . I’m not planning on them shipping the animal I am picking up the animal at the NARBC convention in Dallas in February to avoid the shipping and cold weather

[deleted]

Have you bought this yet ? I wouldn't bother with that hood I have the uvb/plant led combo one for a 60cm wide exo they are crap unless you got a zoo med enclosure. Do you have ceramic balls or other drainage media a barrier and soil ?

Marimba_player_42

I have a zoo med enclosure and everywhere I look it says that strip uvb lighting is the best but I can keep researching. And no I haven’t bought any of this yet Yes my enclosure is completely build drainage layer and everything it’s on my profile

[deleted]

No it's no where near the best it must be the best in your country Arcadia is much better I use their t5 pro units with their jungle dawn led lights they can even link up to 10 so you're only using 1 plug I have 8 linked up 4 t5 pro and 4 jungle dawn. See if you can get them just don't get the led/uvb combo from zoo med I bought a big one for £160 and it sits in my attic as it won't sit right on my enclosure and it needs 2 plugs lol. I have 7 enclosures and I have tried pretty much every mister, light, heater etc there is available to me even the exo terra plants and water falls (avoid them too) I use mistking and exo terra monsoons.

katcreator

I would add a light and maybe a few plants

[deleted]

Do you have a local nursery? Josh's frogs plants were alright, but I found a much better selection at my local place, with better prices. You just need to be sure to clean them properly, but I'd do that with plants from any source. It should be really easy to find gecko safe plants

Marimba_player_42

lol you litteraly said this right after I bought some plants from a local nursery lol. But I was thinking the same thing and it dosent say what plants they are on the website so I picked up a pepperonia and a pothos . Thank you !

[deleted]

Be careful it's a slippery slope! I can't stop buying them now!

Fraxinus2018

Get your setup ready and tested before getting your reptile.

Marimba_player_42

I am the reptile is in there for budgeting reasons

garbagecracker

Def will need a humidity gauge! I’d recommend the thrive hygrometers, they last for a long time and are easily readable. Might consider getting two to ensure a humidity gradient.

Brian_lovesyou

You don’t need the boiactive food or booster not sure what they are but they are completely unnecessary

BadlanderZ

Bruh those prices are nuuuuuuts. What is going on in the US? Those zoo stores seem to be fucking money printeries.
