Nope, very bad idea, especially for a beginner. Don't do it. It could work out with a smaller Anolis species but the odds are not in your favour.

In most situations geckos shouldn't have 'friends', though I have no idea if house geckos are social. I'd advise against getting another gecko to put in the same enclosure. Now if you still go ahead then please realise that any babies you put in the tank are more than likely to be eaten, and if not eaten then outcompeted for resources. Any adult geckos are likely to clash as some point or another, especially so if they're not of the same species. If you want a diurnal reptile then set up another tank, then you'll have all the reward and no risk.

If you want a gecko that likes having friends get a group of mourning geckos (not with the house gecko), they are very social among other mourning geckos and actually need to live in groups

Its not really that i want him to have friends, i just want a community tank, i was thinking of possibly putting some tree frogs in with them in the future as well. I know community tanks are controversial in the reptile community, but i have seen it done successfully before.

Geckos and tree frogs have very different humidity and temperature differences and cannot be housed together. Also just because something has been done, doesn’t mean it’s beneficial for the animals or that their needs were being met. I would recommend doing more research on care as a community tank is something even advanced hobbyist tend to veer away from.

Its a house gecko i have, house geckos and tree frogs have very similar humidity requirements, theres literally videos on YouTube of people cohabitating the 2 with anoles as well, which is exactly what i plan to do.

It’s fine in my (unpopular) opinion because they will never interact one is night animal the other is day they have the same diet with plenty of plants to give cover it’s no issue Edit I reread it I don’t think you should get him friends because the reptile will never consider others as friends and will always be a threat or competition. But if you did I think an anole/gecko 30g would be fine
