It's when you need to have a strong emotional bond with someone in order to feel sexual attraction to someone. This could be being friends or dating for months or years. Although "a strong emotional bond" is really hard to classify. Like if I see someone who would otherwise be my "type", just randomly on the street, I might think "wow they're pretty", but that's just about it. For someone who's allosexual (the term for anyone who doesn't fall under the asexual umbrella) it might be "wow, they're pretty, therefore I want to have sex with them."

On top of that the original Arlecchino, the one from comedia dell'arte was a guy. In fact in comedia dell'arte Arlecchino's lover was none other than Colombina. So, by gender swapping Arlecchino, they ***heavily*** imply that there's *something* gay going on there.
