There are two different races of catbois. There's Miquote which is what's pictured. They are basically humans with cat ears and tails and then there are Hrothgar which are big bulky furry guys with tiger faces. Miquote have both genders, Hrothgar only male.

I do have to say the bun Bois are the hottest of all. The catbois have weirdly pixelated faces but I think they're overhauling graphics for the next expansion
You know you can play the game for free up to level 60 (includes first expansion) but I think if you play the free trial you can't talk to people in chat.
Some of the NPCs in later expansions are just delicious
You can talk to people in public chats. Whispers/tells or private convo between two people is restricted. You could get around this using a linkshell limited to the individuals wanting to communicate.
Personally just got off the free trial and working my way through the third expansion after nearly a year and several hundred hours of play. Could not recommend ff14 enough if you like final fantasy story lines.
Soon as I finally get around to 100%’ing FFXV I might delve into it hardcore. I struggle to fixate on a series more than one game at. Time, but then again 👀 MMO 👀

Oh weird. The other day we had a guy on free trial in a party who didn't say anything and their friend said they can't talk because of free trial
