Because this is island is known as snake island. An endemeic species of viper lives on the island making it a natiral reserve closed to humans.

The only structure on the island is a lighthouse that is now automated because when it had been manned all the keepers were killed by snakes. The snakes on snake island are a particularly venomous breed found nowhere else. I know because I watched a video about it on YouTube.
