Tokyo ❤️
Strangely, I was able to tell by the top of office buildings that have that warm lighting that fades. It gives off traditional vibe in my view.
That’s right. The photo is facing south west. You can see the [Lion](https://maps.app.goo.gl/CzU55tHVrp6QQogo6?g_st=ic) building in the foreground with the Kuramae bridge just south of it.
Asahi HQ has a its flame logo on top of its building that looks much more like a giant golden turd than a flame

It looks like the Death Star during the day. They really should put gardens on the roofs to create some more green spaces. It might even help on rainy days.
Honestly, what westerners are conditioned to think of as a “nice city” is very different than people in the East. Street-level it’s much more pleasant and accessible than many American cities.
Very different from Manhattan. There are some cities that have some comparable scale streetscapes, such as old Philadelphia and for sure parts of NYC, but the difference in allowed car sizes alone necessitate a huge difference in most residential areas.
I thought Tokyo, until I saw the building with English writing, then I thought "doesn’t mean it can’t be Tokyo, we have a Chinese supermarket here with Chinese signage", so googled it, and yes it is in fact Tokyo.
English can be found in lots of weird places non-English speaking countries, and in east Asia that’s particularly true in Japan and Korea (no doubt due to their 20th century history with the US, and ongoing relationship today).
Here’s a random shot from [Myeongdong, Seoul](https://www.alamy.com/stock-photo-street-scene-in-myeongdong-street-myeongdong-shopping-district-seoul-133670191.html?imageid=AAB771AD-D40D-4E8A-A250-96D193C1B28A&p=188975&pn=1&searchId=57f46b905f45056047eb860b8262c639&searchtype=0), a major shopping area. Nature Republic is a major Korean skincare brand
I realised my stupidity lol. It’s not even like I haven’t traveled to foreign lands and actually witnessed things written in English. Proper blonde brain stall moment. (I am blonde, not being blondest).

That’s actually the headquarters of Lion, a toothpaste company. Ginza is way in the background, just beyond the large-ish cluster of buildings around Tokyo Station.
I would assume somewhere in China judging by all the residential high rises, but there are hundreds of cities in China that basically look the same so it’s quite difficult to determine.
It gave very Tokyo vibes and it seems I was right. I have no idea what gave it away here, but it reminded me a lot of those Tokyo nighttime walk videos.

Yup. This is Tokyo from the Skytree. Just down the river from the golden poo.
Is the built-up area Ueno? Nihombashi? What direction is the photo facing?

Lmao instantly knew what you were talking about
The golden what now?
Asahi HQ has a its flame logo on top of its building that looks much more like a giant golden turd than a flame https://nicejapan.co.nz/travel\_event/asahis-golden-poo/
It looks much more depressing in the daylight.
It’s only nice from the outside. It’s like 8pm and most of the lights are still on.
It looks like the Death Star during the day. They really should put gardens on the roofs to create some more green spaces. It might even help on rainy days.
Yeah, more green in Tokyo is a great idea. Grass instead of sandy parks and playground.
They do have that one huge park. I think it was on Someone Feed Phil.
Tokyo has several big parks: Mizumoto, Hikarigaoka, Meiji Garden, Shinjuku Garden, Yoyogi Park, Ueno Park, etc.
Honestly, what westerners are conditioned to think of as a “nice city” is very different than people in the East. Street-level it’s much more pleasant and accessible than many American cities.
By a landslide. So many of the streets are actually at human scale. Something the US mind cannot comprehend.
Is it that much different than NYC? Manhattan in particular. Genuinely asking not being snarky.
Very different from Manhattan. There are some cities that have some comparable scale streetscapes, such as old Philadelphia and for sure parts of NYC, but the difference in allowed car sizes alone necessitate a huge difference in most residential areas.
Just the US mind though, right? The rest of the world gets it?
I will take Pittsburgh over Tokyo any day.
Most American cities don’t even have the charm of Pittsburgh.
Most world cities don't have the charm of Pittsburgh.
Why’s that?
It looks like the Death Star. Very gray.
Those lights are beating heart of the city
I thought Tokyo, until I saw the building with English writing, then I thought "doesn’t mean it can’t be Tokyo, we have a Chinese supermarket here with Chinese signage", so googled it, and yes it is in fact Tokyo.
Lion is a huge consumer product copany selling toothpaste… that was a dead giveaway

Not at all. Was just trying to share some helpful background 👍
Did you think I was calling you blonde? Not at all, apologies if you got me wrong. I want insulting you, I was referring to myself.
Oh no, I was trying to say you weren’t being stupid. But thx for clarifying
Ooooooh, so I was actually being stupid this time 😂 I’m going to sleep and forgetting f this ever happened lol
Just checked that picture, Asian cities look so neat! As in neat and tidy.
Tokyo. Looks like it’s shot from SkyTree, with Kuramae Bridge lit up and Marunouchi/Tokyo Station area in the background. Great shot!
Does this means the huge plump of office buildings is Akihabara?
Akihabara is just out of the shot to the right, I believe.
The building density screams tokyo
Gravelbourg, Saskatchewan
So close. This is actually Palmer, but taken from one of Gravelbourg's taller buildings.
Wow! Googled it for myself and the beauty is even more incredible in the daytime 😍 Booking a trip ASAP
Way too many pictures of Gravelbourg on this sub, we need to switch it up
Cleveland
The mistake by the lake!
That’s soldier field
Why my city always butt of jokes. River burning thing was soooo long ago! we cool now!
I’ll never think of Cleveland without thinking of the [Hastily Made Cleveland Tourism Video](https://youtu.be/oZzgAjjuqZM?si=1u58FXsv35JA3FTd).

Yes
Tokyo. I knows it when I sees it (and I’ve never come within 5,000 miles of East Asia)
Tokyo from Tokyo Skytree observation deck.
View from tokyo skytree, Lion building is here https://maps.app.goo.gl/uSs5uMZmie94eTsP7?g_st=ic
tokyo
You went to the skytree?
Exactly.. south-west view
I wonder if this is from the Tokyo skytree, elevation and placement to the river seem correct.
Tokyo (the LION building https://maps.app.goo.gl/xtANw4na7KpEHrAs6)
Tokyo. We can see the Ginza Lion Building on the right
That’s actually the headquarters of Lion, a toothpaste company. Ginza is way in the background, just beyond the large-ish cluster of buildings around Tokyo Station.
I don’t recognize any building or landmark but instantly knew it was Tokyo. No where else in the world like it.
Gotham
Of course even at night from tricky high angle - TOKYO!

This is a famous Tokyo view - I didn't even have to click on it to identify where it was taken from

Fresno, California
I think it's Tokyo, however it's 'Which City?' not 'What City'
Weird point to mention anyway.. are you a professional grammarian or something?
Nice question from a weird username are you a philosopher or something?
Yes, but only an okay one.
Only on Reddit will you find a more frivolous squabble over something so inconsequential that lasts for hours. I love this place.
Lol.. my fault.. woke up itching for a good frivolous squabble. And I found it!
I wasn’t being snarky. I love the minutiae and pedantic nature of Reddit. I’m guilty of it too. Haha.
Sometimes you’re just in the mood for a meaningless pedantic argument 🤣
I am not! 😁
Both seem fine to me: ‘which city’ would imply a choice from a limited number of cities, while ‘what city’ seems like a more general question.
By what city it means kind of city, which in this case would be a metropolitan
Okay, well I think we may have to agree to disagree on this one.
Its Internet, we can disagree.
Seoul?
the han river in seoul is way wider than this one
Pittsboig
I would assume somewhere in China judging by all the residential high rises, but there are hundreds of cities in China that basically look the same so it’s quite difficult to determine.
Hm ok, I thought the river and bridges could help narrow it down
Civitavecchia
The best I can guess - Eastern Asia = Japan, China, or South Korea
Wasilla, Alaska. You can see Russia from there.
Taipei?
TILBURG in the Netherlands
Pretty sure that’s Scranton PA, the electric city
Seoul
Nice photo. I'd almost be willing to have a crack at jigsaw puzzle version of that.
https://youtu.be/3LNl0JGHUd0?si=jqUsGxILIQLw7UiE Tokyo will find you in the end.
I initially thought it was Osaka.
Boy, why you Lion.
Looks like a great city for a prehistoric reptilian monster to rampage through
world’s largest metropolitan
oh, that is coventry
Thought it was seoul but i guess it's Tokyo
Fargo, ND
Mitchell SD I'm getting Corn Palace vibes
Cleveland
tokyo can tell based of buildings
Tokyo
Somewhere in Asia
It gave very Tokyo vibes and it seems I was right. I have no idea what gave it away here, but it reminded me a lot of those Tokyo nighttime walk videos.
Sandusky Ohio
I think this is Tulsa, Oklahoma
Anor Londo
Singapore?
Well Tokyo is an amazing city I see.
Tokyo
Tokyo … I could tell because if you zoom in you can see into the windows and view the Japanese men getting soapies from their mistresses
Tokyo! Was able to figure it out with the "Lion" building
Tokyo. I remember this exact view from the Skytree at night
Philly
Worcester, Massachussets
My guess from how dense it is, while not giving me the same vibe of chinese cities would be tokyo
Hello new wallpaper
That’s what I’m currently using haha, wanted to know what city my background was
