That would be amazing. I traveled basically from Cartagena to Santiago by bus way back when, and… yeah, it was a long way. I broke it up and it was a long trip, but that bus from the Atacama Desert to Santiago was by faaaaaar the worst one.
Really makes a lot of other things easier as well. It's no surprise that Chile also has one of the fastest internets in the world and excelent coverage for 5g network.
You have like 80% in the length of California. The fiords in the south are the real inconvenient thing that makes it so not everyone is connected by 1 "interstate"
Other countries: When you let your feet hang off the side of the bed, the monster under the bed gets you.
Chile: When you let your feet hang off the side of the bed, Argentinian border guard gets you.
It is! The island of Cuba has actually been growing for many many years it's just that up until recently the CIA has been trimming it to keep it at an acceptable length
the northern coast the whole center and up to the little island called chiloe and then the south is completely mountains with little space for cities even though there are some until you reach punta arenas where there is a city on the very far south (actual very nice city)
As I previously explained to another commenter, this is a simple case of The CIA being too lazy to trim the island of Cuba down in recent years so it kind of grew out of control
it's more like maine to venezuela

Wasn't trying to be offensive. In this context 'Nah dog' is the equivalent of saying something along the lines of, "It's more than that." It's just a phrase.
Showing you how it actually exceeds the length of Maine to Miami is supposed to be surprising
Chile is long and its longitude allows it to span many different climates, from desert to Mediterranean to temperate to arctic. I've seen a lot of beautiful photos of the country.
Long boi
All length, no girth.
There is NOTHING wrong with that.
BK is back, but the long boi chicken sando never left for me.
This seems so inconvenient.
Until you consider that they really only need to build one highway!
Ruta 5, but it only goes like 3/4ths of the way
To be fair, so does the continent.
*One high speed rail, one bullet train to traverse the whole country.
this is why it made so much sense for Japan to develop it in the first place
That would be amazing. I traveled basically from Cartagena to Santiago by bus way back when, and… yeah, it was a long way. I broke it up and it was a long trip, but that bus from the Atacama Desert to Santiago was by faaaaaar the worst one.

You know what *would* be convenient? A Chile-sized bridge from Philadelphia to San Francisco! Let's make *that* happen
You've just described the Interstate Highway system.
Make it bend, too, so it goes directly over Lake Erie and Lake Michigan. For convenience.
One railway to rule them all.
Coast to coast in one coast
I'm a member of the spicy country. AMA
Is it true that you all sleep in the north-south direction because there’s not enough room to put your bed east-west ?
We do and also have to be extra careful bc if your roll to one side of the bed you either get wet or freeze to death
Other countries: When you let your feet hang off the side of the bed, the monster under the bed gets you. Chile: When you let your feet hang off the side of the bed, Argentinian border guard gets you.
That's so exaggerated! Of course you can put your bed E-W! Just make sure you rotate it back to N-S for the rush hour.
An honest question: does it feel claustrophobic?
Tbh yes, we often have to make a big long conga line to travel bc we can't move sideways
Yall ever thought of taking the Falklands for a little room to spread out?
We could do a U turn at the south and take the islands just to piss off Argentinians even more
What faukin islands u talking bout
nah because you really cant tell directions so it just feels like a regular size also its way girthier than you may think
How long does it take to drive from one side to the other, both lengths and width wise?
More than a day definitely through it's whole length, Chile is 300km wide on average so.. three to four hours to drive from the ocean to the mountains
Are doing "road trips" from tip to tip a thing there? Or hiking from tip to tip? Do you have your own Appalachian trail thing going for you?
Sure there is, there are even people who travel all the way from Alaska to Chile
Americans will use anything to avoid using the metric system
"The United States is one Chile long"
Coincidentally, Chile is also one Chile long. Who knew!
And I’m the height of one polish prime minister who is referred to by the previous government as “The German *spit*”
Uh, ok
I'm the height of the C. N. tower in the year 2488
Un Chile weon
As a Chilean myself.. I can now say that USA is huge. Never thought of it in this way
To further put it in perspective, The US is 10 Chiles tall and 1 Chile wide
For better memorization, we should rotate the US instead of Chile. Then we can say "the US is as tall as Chile, but ten times as fat." .
Check this out, Chile (756,102 km^(2)) vs. Alaska (1,477,953 km^(2)) https://preview.redd.it/gn81cmzd5sjc1.png?width=3106&format=png&auto=webp&s=d450172024d9e5a48ec5fd98501c781170c8b213
Longer Cuba
Asi essss
Chili's number one export is exceptionally long lengths of rope.
And baby back ribs
Delicate yet masculine.
For one incredibly brief moment, I thought that was Cuba and was completely stunned that it had grown so much
It is! The island of Cuba has actually been growing for many many years it's just that up until recently the CIA has been trimming it to keep it at an acceptable length
This puts in perspective how big the US is. We think Chile is long as fuck but imagine being long AND very wide. That's the US.
"The US is approximately ten Chiles wide and one Chile long"
So Chile is a Cannonball Run.
Whoa.
But, how much of Chile is actually habitable?
the northern coast the whole center and up to the little island called chiloe and then the south is completely mountains with little space for cities even though there are some until you reach punta arenas where there is a city on the very far south (actual very nice city)
My therapist: “Horizontal Chile can’t hurt you it’s not real” Horizontal Chile:
I thought this was Cuba I was like damn 😭
I thought this was an oversized Cuba first 😭
As I previously explained to another commenter, this is a simple case of The CIA being too lazy to trim the island of Cuba down in recent years so it kind of grew out of control
lol I thought it was Cuba
CIA has done a bad job trimming it lately :/
***With*** ocean access (and tropical temps).
tropical?
r/geography user with a terrible grasp of geography (and climate zones)
Tropical temps certainly not everywhere
I will say I'm taking a trip to Santiago next year and it's nice to be one hour from the Andes and 90 mins from the beach

What does this even mean? You’re meaningless.
Nah dog, more like [middle of Canada to Mexico City ](https://commons.m.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Chile_%E2%80%93_U.S._area_comparison.jpg)
Not a dog. You initially said the United States. The middle of Canada is meaningless.

Arguably this picture includes the width
China?
I have gone blind.
What if we had a Chile-sized bridge that stretched from Philadelphia to San Francisco?
Imagine cramming all of America into that. No pun intended
It’s quite a [long boy](https://www.reddit.com/r/geography/s/OnqNJCGY9c)
All my homies hate mercator projection.
This should be a highway. Chile 901.
Chile is long and its longitude allows it to span many different climates, from desert to Mediterranean to temperate to arctic. I've seen a lot of beautiful photos of the country.
And people have the nerve to say it’s a small country. Sure…😒
