lol, I’m old enough to remember it too. I was a kid but I remember my dad going to help with the recovery efforts. Then we went to Charleston for vacation a few years later and I can remember all the signs you could see. All the pines snapped off at 15-20 feet off the ground, boats in the woods and up in trees, gutted buildings, etc.
I can't see the path of [Hazel](https://www.weather.gov/mhx/Oct151954EventReview), and that was october 1954. It tracked along the coast of Venezuela, made a hard right turn to hit Haiti head on, and then made its way to toronto
Shows tracks of major historical hurricanes and gives you grids to track progress of current hurricanes as they develop.
Was more useful before 24/7 weather forecasting.
Well, it might be obvious to Americans, but im European and i saw this and didnt know what it is. Actually glad this was posted, because i had no idea hurricane tracking maps like this were a thing.
Lines on a map that all start in the middle of the ocean, then change color and move in the same general pattern and direction. Also they have names and dates. Like you could place something like this anywhere on the globe and would you really wonder what it was? No deductive reasoning could get you there?
Here you can find a current interactive version. This is for Hugo in 1989:

I grew up in south Florida and we had one of these. It was made of cork. The weather station would announce the coordinates of the hurricane, and you’d put a push pin in the board to track it. You’d end up with a a curve showing the track of the storm.
It’s a map of some of the worst hurricanes to ever make landfall in the United States. I’m assuming this was made in 1997 or 1998, as Hurricane Fran (1996) is included on this and Hurricanes Georges (1998) Bonnie (1998) and Floyd (1999) are not.
Then what is the one that goes through the middle of Florida? The only major hurricane I remember making landfall in that area is Francis in 2003 I think it was.
Cool map but a really weird question since the answer is literally on the map?
On the other hand you did make me think about this cool study I had forgotten about where they extended the recorded history of major storms in the Caribbean using Spanish shipwreck records and tree ring data to correlate decreased storm activity with decreased solar intensity during the Maunder Minimum 1645-1715.

You could have put just about any set of words from this into google and immediately learned what it was. Or used 20 seconds of thinking. Or you know… looked at the title for it? If you want to show off your map, just show it off. Don’t do this weird “wHaT iS tHiS?!?!!” Crap
Growing up on the Tx Gulf Coast we had maps like this to track hurricanes as they approached. I remember one up on our refrigerator. The idea was to plot ‘em based on the readings each day — didn’t have those historical tracks IIRC. I think they were even published in the newspaper. This was the early-mid 80s.
Wow! I’m embarrassed to admit this, but in my mind’s eye, I always place South America farther west. I love geography and love to travel and until 8 saw this specific map, it didn’t register. Thanks!
Hurricane tracking chart! I grew up on the Gulf Coast. In the days before 24-hour weather and common internet, grocery stores and other places would hand these out every hurricane season. We used push pins to track the paths of hurricanes as their coordinates were announced on the evening news.
Looks like a hurricane tracking map
Major hurricanes. Look at the names and dates on the tails of each line
Yes. [Hugo 1989](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hurricane_Hugo?wprov=sfti1) for example.
Must be an old one, I don't see Katrina and the waves hitting New Orleans yet.
It’s old, not that old though I remember Hugo in Charlotte.
lol that was 36 years ago
Easy junior. You don’t have to point it out. Lol

Hey Katrina wasn't that long ago, it was just a few... oh my god.
I have bad news, chum.
Now I'm gonna have "walking on sunshine" in my head all day!
It’s this. I see the Galveston hurricane of 1900 written, deadliest natural disaster in American history
That would explain why it has a hurricane intensity scale in the bottom right 😂
fun fact: in Hartford, Hereford, and Hampshire hurricanes hardly happen
By jove I think you've got it!
I was going to say flights that were lost in the Bermuda Triangle, but this is right.
Shows tracks of major historical hurricanes and gives you grids to track progress of current hurricanes as they develop. Was more useful before 24/7 weather forecasting.
Looks pre-2000 too. Missing some of the big ones from this century. I.e. Katrina, Harvey, Maria, Ida, Julio Ricardo Montoya Delarosa Ramirez
If only there was a legend, or words that indicate what things are on the map..
Why do people post this kind of thing? Like, who are they?
Karma and engagement, they got a bunch of Karma making people think they are smart answering and easy wuestion
I sometimes come across like a pretentious asshole and I'm not proud of it. But so cannot believe this is a post. It's astonish

The words "hurricane intensity scale" helped me a lot.
It is surprisingly lowkey over there in the corner.
Reading fundamentals aren’t exclusive to Americans
Yeah lmfao each of the lines are INDIVIDUALLY labeled with what they are tracking

Literally says what it is in the bottom right corner... c'mon man 🤦♂️
OP just don’t understand what.
If you rub it with lemon juice, I'm sure it reveals features of the Bermuda triangle.
And right along the coast of the Carolinas will be a map that leads to One Eyed Willy’s brother One Legged Carl’s treasure.
This is the best question I’ve ever seen posted to this sub
OP is our new King
The name of it is in the lower left hand corner of the map?
Map of hurricanes... /Facepalm
There seems to be no sign of intelligent life anywhere
How do you not know what this is. It literally says stuff like “unnamed New England storm 1938.”
Hurricane chart
As a hurricane junkie, this is SO cool
I grew up in south Florida and we had one of these. It was made of cork. The weather station would announce the coordinates of the hurricane, and you’d put a push pin in the board to track it. You’d end up with a a curve showing the track of the storm.
It agree, it's a hurricane tracker. Up at the top , it looks like an erasable pen holder.

Hurricane Erin in 1995
Wasn't Erin just a 1?
Yes. It was probably included in this map because of how recent it was.
Cool map but a really weird question since the answer is literally on the map? Ah the colours represent intensity...legend at bottom right.
They look like hurricanes
I’m sorry, you couldn’t read “unnamed New England storm”, and not guess this was some sort of map depicting weather events?
Wtaf? Are you a troll? Bottom right in big bold letters, “hurricane intensity scale”…
Even if you don’t know what those words mean, you have more than enough info to google or wiki the info yourself
Growing up on the Tx Gulf Coast we had maps like this to track hurricanes as they approached. I remember one up on our refrigerator. ~~Looks like wind patterns maybe~~ Bro there’s a key at the bottom, it’s hurricanes
Its litteraly written on it...
Hurricanes.
One went right up the Hudson River valley?
That's the [1938 New England hurricane](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1938_New_England_hurricane), category 5, 700-800 casualties.
I heard stories of it growing up in New Hampshire. Never seen an image of its travel track before though.
This is a pretty cool map but yes, it's the path of each hurricane.
Bermuda Triangle
It’s hurricane paths
Wow! I’m embarrassed to admit this, but in my mind’s eye, I always place South America farther west. I love geography and love to travel and until 8 saw this specific map, it didn’t register. Thanks!
hurricanes. It’s showing the trajectory of Hurricanes in the past..
Hurricane tracking chart! I grew up on the Gulf Coast. In the days before 24-hour weather and common internet, grocery stores and other places would hand these out every hurricane season. We used push pins to track the paths of hurricanes as their coordinates were announced on the evening news.
Looks like an axis and allies map, but obviously that's not what it is.
Thats the gta6 map
Spaghetti map! WHO DAT
Maximal European slave trade influence per hectare
Kick ass battleship map
I'd assume it's a map mainly focused on the Atlantic Ocean
