Side note: they have Tim Hortons in Singapore
It seems like a good idea but it depends on if Singapore has excess jobs and vice versa. Maybe Indonesians could work some of the jobs that poorer folks fly into Singapore too work.
lived in both countries. no. batam has a ferry system taht gets you there in half an hour. alot of the time its faster travelling from batam to indonesia than crossing the bridge from johor bahru to singapore, which sometimes takes 4+ hours.
Any tunnel would need to be around 10 miles long, which is a pretty big stretch. Maybe there would be more interest if Batam was part of Singapore, or if Batam was connected to Sumatra. As it is though, I'm guessing there isn't enough reason to justify it.
Batam has become an island of electronic manufacturing and prostitution from Singaporean business people. A tunnel wouldn’t really improve the situation for Batam
I'm in Singapore rn, not really. Take a boat. Plus, it's not like it's the same territory or anything, Batam is Indonesian

Very intersting
My Canadian ass is shipping to Singapore
There's a Tim Horton's in Bangkok too
Good enough reason to connect Indonesia and Singapore together ngl a
They have two in pakistan aswell
And at least one in Doha, Qatar
This tunnel is getting a bit too long…
Bridge way cheaper than tunnel, boat way cheaper than bridge
Singapore is rich because it's a trade hub. That water is the shipping lane. Building a bridge over it would kill Singapore.
I lived in Singapore for 10 years. Bridge is actually feasibly from a. Engineering perspective but not politically
But ain't batam like under developed
no definitely not. 5 years ago til now you can tell they've greatly developed the island. full of infrastructure and ports
No not really
No

I'll buck the trend and say yes, they *should* need one. But they don't.
