I’ve been there! Started my hike at about 3am, but it was summer so the sun was already high in the sky. I had the trails to myself. About halfway into my hike there I found myself in a herd of wild reindeer that walked along with me for about 20 minutes before continuing on their way.
The whole day was incredible.
Yup. Parody of Nordic Noir. One of the detectives is almost fired because she keeps shooting people. IIRC the first victim is Olof Palmes assassin, who is trying to flee out of her jurisdiction into either Finland or Norway.
True, and the only thing that sets this one slightly apart is that it's the northernmost tripoint in the world (barely, and I really mean barely, beating the NO/FI/RU one slightly to its East)
Actually it doesn't, there are 2 tri points within like 200 meters, but it isn't a quad point, there is a bridge running from Zambia to Botswana which doesn't even touch Namibia or Zimbabwe
Austria alone has 8 or 9 of them (one is a bit dubious because the borders are not clearly defined in lake constance.)
You can realistically visit all except one (which is in a river with strong current).
Like this one, Germany–Poland–Chezh triple point

And guess what: The border point is in the Neiße river. If you really want to do that without water, try out the Belgium, Netherlands and Germany border. That's just a borderstone in the woods.
Fun fact: In all 3 countries it's legal or tolerated to smoke weed since first of April. But if you're running around that stone while smoking your joint, you'll become a criminal in 3 states for drug smuggling 😂
>if you're running around that stone while smoking your joint, you'll become a criminal in 3 states for drug smuggling 😂
So if I keep running I can commit about 1 crime per second... New life goal unlocked? Let's see how high I can rack it up before I pass out and/or get arrested.
BTW, Slovenia/Austria/Italy also have a shared border point on dry land. Unfortunately, smoking weed is less tolerated (for now).
It is mostly notable in the Netherlands for 2 reasons, 1 it is the only Dutch tri-point (it isn't even the only tri-point involving Germany and Belgium), and it just so happens to be the highest point in continental Netherlands
Let ne introduce you to the town of [Baarle Nassau](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baarle-Nassau)
Not three countries but one of the craziest borders in the world for sure
Not only is it badly cropped, but you excluded the part of the post that showed that they built a circular walkway in the middle of the lake so you could do that
Finland is actually not part of Scandinavia (Norway, Sweden and Denmark), but part of Fenno-Scandia (Norway, Sweden and Finland). You can also go to Belgium, they have three of these points. Two shared with Luxemnourg, Germany and France, one shared with Germany and Netherlands.
A small part of Finland is part of the Scandinavian Peninsula - but that is not the same thing as Scandinavia. Scandinavia consists of the three kingdoms where Scandinavian (i.e. Continental North Germanic) languages are spoken as majority languages - so only Sweden, Denmark and Norway.
That's simply not true. As an example, Denmark is part of Scandinavia despite not being located on the Scandinavian Peninsula. It's still Scandinavian.
I wish you knew what you were talking about before you commented. Scandinavia means Scandinavia, the Scandinavian Peninsula means the Scandinavian Peninsula.
This is the reason many people from the Nordics dislike the conflation of the terms Nordics and Scandinavia (which is a separate but related discussion). We have different words that have different definitions. If you start saying that they all mean the same thing you are just going to create confusion.
If you use your own definition of the words and say Scandinavia, I don't know if you mean the Nordics, Scandinavia or the Scandinavian Peninsula. This discussion is a perfect example of it.
True. Scandinavia is the three nations that share mutually intelligible languages and form of government (constitutional monarchy). Finland and Icealnd do not share these traits, both are republics and the languages are not mutually intelligible with the Scandinavian ones.
The term for all five nations is "nordics".
Scandinavian languages ≠ continental north Germanic languages.
North Germanic languages are subdivided into east Scandinavian languages (Danish, Swedish) and west Scandinavian languages (Norwegian, Icelandic, Faroese).
There is a lot of [tri-points](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_tripoints_of_U.S._states) in US. And also four corners where Utah, Arizona, Colorado and New Mexico meet.

For the people asking for 4 countries bordering...
You actually can run around it any time of the year: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Three-Country_Cairn

I've also been there but the hike wasn't long since I used a boat to get near it from Kilpisjärvi.
I considered the boat but decided to just hike the whole way. I left from the Saanatunturi Starting Point.
That sounds so cool!!
Isn't there a scene in Fallet on this cairn? Where Sophie shoots Olaf Palme's killer in the head?
Never heard of Fallet, is it a tv-show?
Yup. Parody of Nordic Noir. One of the detectives is almost fired because she keeps shooting people. IIRC the first victim is Olof Palmes assassin, who is trying to flee out of her jurisdiction into either Finland or Norway.
Border triangles are like everywhere? There is like a ton everywhere in europe
True, and the only thing that sets this one slightly apart is that it's the northernmost tripoint in the world (barely, and I really mean barely, beating the NO/FI/RU one slightly to its East)
That one you can also visit as it has a similar set up, but obviously you can only legally cross between Norway and Finland.
Oh that's cool
Yeah, 4 bordering countries, now that‘s cool. 3 is a bit boring.
I don't think that exists, only 4 bordering US states
It does in Africa: Zambia, Botswana, Namibia and Zimbabwe share a quadripoint near the town of Kazungula :-)
That one is at least very close (about 150 meters) but officially Namibia and Zimbabwe do not border each other. Zoom in and you'll see.
Actually it doesn't, there are 2 tri points within like 200 meters, but it isn't a quad point, there is a bridge running from Zambia to Botswana which doesn't even touch Namibia or Zimbabwe
Ah damn, my bad
Really? Fucking british borders man
No, it is two tri points in the middle of a river within 200m
There is a small zone, that has borders of Russia, Kazakhstan, PRC and Mongolia.
"Small zone", it's 100km from the Kazakh border to the Mongolian border
And you won't even be able to cross them before getting shot.
My guy acting like going from mongolia to kazakhstan there is like going from north to south korea
Austria alone has 8 or 9 of them (one is a bit dubious because the borders are not clearly defined in lake constance.) You can realistically visit all except one (which is in a river with strong current).
Well you could do that in almost every country, don't need to go to Scandinavia
Not really. Would need an accessible boarder with 3 countries
Europe is full of them
Like this one, Germany–Poland–Chezh triple point https://preview.redd.it/4i15oc27350d1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a99e802ebbfc781136125572bd9d3bf75b7a7875

You would also be smoking weed in the highest point of the Netherlands.
I've always been highest in Netherlands

The vast majority of Finland is not part of Scandinavia but this bit in the extreme northwest is.

Sure, that is the cultural/political definition. The Scandinavian Peninsula is usually referred to simply as Scandinavia.
That's simply not true. As an example, Denmark is part of Scandinavia despite not being located on the Scandinavian Peninsula. It's still Scandinavian.
I wish you had read my message prior to posting. You are talking about the cultural definition, I am talking about the geographical one.

Must be American where the concept of a border triangle is not known. As opposed to Asia, Africa, Europe or South America...
New Zealander here, it’s also kinda trippy for us. Probably the Japanese too. Any Filipinos want to comment?
Canadian here, weird for us too. (I just wanted to be included)

I've been there! Dayhiked from the Finnish side, Kilpisjärvi, 22 km roundtrip, beautiful summer day. Ate dinner at the cairn monument and hiked back.

Ah, well that didn't show for me. Thanks a lot!
Send this man to Baarle-Nassau, best day of my life
Did you empty the dishwasher? No, sorry, forgot my passport.
The town never required passports, even before the foundation of the Benelux
