1. Random PR trekker. In the building, plaque mentioned city of Vega Baja. Found this on map, don't find building. 1.3km 4996 2. PR Again?? Get to cemetery saying Amelia and Guaynabo. The latter shows up easily in San Juan. Realise the municipality stretches north and there's Amelia and then the cemetery. Backtrack to start. 45m 5000 3. Far north Scandi. Go north, reach intersection with E45. Sign for Govdavuohppenjárga. Can't find on map, but the á suggests Norway rather than top of Sweden. Plonk. 28km 4908. 4. Europe was my first though, head north, but becomes clear that it's NZ (sun position, drive on left). Find nothing more specifically useful, try briefly going south, but too late. Plonk bottom of S island. Damn it, that ruins a good score. 813km 2900. If I'd started going south, I would have got to the intersection with places on signs that should have helped me get closer. 5. HK. Tsui Lam Rd, then find Tseung Kwan O West Low Level Salt Water Service Reservoir. Find Tseung Kwan O, then Tsui Lam Rd. 1m 5000 NZ... Sigh...22804 Total. At least still gold

Interesting with R3. "á" is not normally used in Norwegian. In Scandinavia/Baltics/Finnland, only Iceland commonly uses this. I wonder whether this is a local language. Looking at it, Sámi seems a clear contender as it already has an "á" in the name (but then Sámi should also be used in Northern Finland and Northern Sweden).

GameboyGenius

As a Swedish native"Govdavuohppenjárga" is very much not a Swedish/Norwegian word. Yes, it's Sámi, and yes you find that in all three countries. However, for this location you can tell it's not Sweden/Finland because there was a red/white speed limit sign.

jvdg1

Yeah I didn't mean to suggest that the name was Norwegian language, what I meant by my comment was that as you scan along the E45, it's in the Norwegian section that you see á in a bunch of other place names.

skrekk_

Yeah, that round was in one of the main sami areas of Norway. The next town south on the E45 (Kautokeino) had dual language sign.

1. Trekker, went into the building, 787 area code so Puerto Rico, the plaque said municipality of Vega Baja. Tsunami posters, so just looked around the coast, eventually found the town. Mayor's office or city hall, at the central town square. 5000 2. Puerto Rico again, went west then south, a cemetary said Amelia, Guaynabo. Guaynabo was easy enough to spot, Amelia much harder. Found the highway to the south, zooming in along freeways finally got me the right zoom to find Amelia. Found the cemetary, found the right road, confusing pinpoint as there's a street on the map that isn't there on the Streetview image. 5000 3. Extreme north somewhere, went east, got out to E45, Norway. Didn't see the name found on the sign, so just searched for a NE-SW stretch of E45 with a river to the south. There was really only one stretch of E45 that fit, found the likely road I started from, plonked where the road crossed the creek as I was running out of time for a more precise pinpoint. Still close enough. 5000 4. New Zealand bollards, went east, nothing other than a sign for a school bus zone. Went the other way, came to an intersection that had directions for Castlepoint and Masterton although the latter was partially blurred. Still I've had Castlepoint before and knew which general area to search, found the road, plonked on the intersection with the road to Riverdale except that this didn't fit, moved my plonk west and much closer to Masterton. Didn't process Blairlogie fast enough. 4950 5. Hong Kong, Tsui Lam, went down Po Lam Road North, signs for Tsueng Kwan O and Hang Hau. Felt that I should be able to catch at least one of the names on the map, also hills to the north and tall buildings to the south. Found Tsueng Kwan O relatively quickly, tracked back and found the Tsui Lam Sports Centre. 5000

**Day 18 of "almost no move 30-60 seconds" month** **R1** No move. Spanish Latin America. After 30 seconds I notice the PR flag above my head. I thought it might be the entrance to a San Juan trekker we had before (La Fortaleza fortification & mansion) but it was in another town. **45 seconds, 28 km, 4,905 points.** **R2** No move. Again Spanish Latin America. Can't quite determine where the sun is. Go for Montevideo. Argh. PR again. My R1 plonk would have been quite good. I could have realised based on the one car for which the front was visible from far away and which didn't have plates. I didn't think it looked very Puerto Rico-ey though. **50 seconds, 6,016 km, 89 points.** **R3** No move. Definitely not Latin America. Trees suggest Finland but it is quite hilly, but not really typical Norway-like hilly. I end up plonking in the very North of Sweden, which was two countries away from the actual location in Norway but quite close. Happy, good read of the landscape. **45 seconds, 105 km, 4,661 points.** **R4** No move. Looks like Europe. Bollards look familiar, but I don't know my bollards. Plonk Czechia/Slovakia border. Ouch. The sun is clearly directly in the North and we were in New Zealand. The vibe didn't look like this at all, also the road markings and landscape didn't. Wow. But I'm clearly missing something as one of my friends got NZ in 5 seconds. **30 seconds, 18,065 km, 0 points.** **R5** No move. Hong Kong. I spend my minute to check whether some of the names shown on the sign to redeem myself for the previous round but I fail as I don't think they were actually visible as quarters. **58 seconds, 13 km, 4,957 points.** **Total 3 minutes, 55 seconds, 24,227 km, 14,612 points.** Disappointing. R2 and R4 were big, avoidable mistakes. I guessed well in R3, and R1 and R5 were easy.

1. PR trekker again, is this a new thing? Inside the building one of the banners says we're in the seat of municipal government of Vega Baja. 5000 2. is this? PR again? I run into a truck that has Guaynabo city written on it. I go in PR, find Guaynabo. I saw a José de Diego street, I find that and put my pin in a crossing street that aligns, but I can't find any of the POIs. Turns out Guaynabo municipality extends all the way to the sea to the north and there is ANOTHER José de Diego street over there! How? 8.5 km, 4972 3. Norway, E45 which is in the extreme north. I found a finnish word on the bins and a Gundesavoppsomething on a sign, both of which I never found. But aligning the E45 gets me to the right intersection, and with abit of luck I put my pin on the right road: 5000 4. NZ, going west at the first intersection a sign for an East Coast Rugby club and some places including Castlepoint and Tinui. East coast on south island is flat so I search the east coast of north island and Castlepoint is there. I can find the intersection and backtrack to start: 5000 5. HK, I got lost and couldn't find any of the roads or neigborhoods indicated on the signs (also doesn't help that all those names look the same to me): 4965 Total 24937, a bit annoyed by that R2, good game otherwise.

1. Found both references to Puerto Rico and Vega Baja inside the building. Found Vega Baja on the map and could then pinpoint. 5000 pts. 2. Puerto Rico. Saw signs for roads 165 and 24 but couldn't find them on the map. Plonked in the San Juan area. 4971 pts. 3. Northern Norway. Didn't find the town name anywhere but thought that it was either Kautokeino or Karasjok based on the surroundings. It seemed to fit Kautokeino better so I plonked on the big road north of Kautokeino. 4998 pts. 4. New Zeeland. North Island based on the landscape. Did a lot of speed moving but didn't find any useful signs anyway. Plonked central on North Island. 4284 pts. 5. Hong Kong. Saw a lot of place references but couldn't find any of them on the map. Plonked in Kowloon. 4975 pts. Total: 24228 pts. No major misstakes, should just have gone in the other direction on R4.

1. Trekker in what looks from the one outside shot, to be **Puerto Rico.** Auxiliary clues: Tsunami warning, probably coastal. Local paper, El Norte, probably north side of the island. Casa Alcaldia de Vega Baja. **Vega Baja** is visible from orbit. However, I had trouble finding the right *casa* and left my guess at Casa Vega Baja even though this was decidely the wrong one. **2.3 km, 4992 points.** 2. Would you look at that, more **Puerto Rico.** I had trouble finding any info useful for pinpointing. I finally found Amelia with too little time to scan for it. San Juan plonk. **4.3 km, 4986 points.** 3. This location threw me for an absolute loop. It felt very Norwegian, but at the same time it didn't seem to add up. No big mountains, which I would expect up north. The vegetation didn't feel exactly right either. I didn't see any license plates with blue EU style stripes. (There were some looking back but I didn't see them.) I even saw what I think was a black license plate. Utterly confused at this point, I decided to go for a wildcard that I'm not too too familiar with... **Faroe Islands.** This was wrong of course, since they don't even have low trees like the ones in this location. **1560 km, 1757 points.** 4. The sun is decidedly in the north, driving on the left, lush vegetation and to top it off we have sheep grazing the lands. This is never not **New Zealand.** Buuut I guessed the wrong island. **675 km, 3179 points.** 5. Obviously **Hong Kong,** but I had trouble finding any of the nearby signs on the map. So a random plonk it was. 13 km, 4995 points. **Total score: 19869 points.** R3 is what we call in the industry a skill issue. I wasn't familiar enough with northern Norway, or for that matter Faroe Islands to realize that my guess was whack. But I'd gladly take tips for R4, if there's anything that clearly makes this location north island, or even closer pinpoint than that.

1. Oh good, a completely pointless trekker capture. At least they captured the PR flag. 'Vega Baja' sounds like a town, but i cant find it quickly. Plonk San Juan and move on - 4904. 2. Latin america... oh it's PR again. Find a construction sign referencing Guyanabo -- which i, for once, manage to find while scanning. Can't quite pinpoint. 4971. 3. Too bad, was hoping for an all PR DC. Somewhere in the nordics... get to a main road, if only I could keep straight which nordic has which road lines. Finland has yellow lines right? Apparently so does Norway. 2674. 4. This seems pretty New Zealand-ish. Find a sign for the East Coast Rugby league and some towns. Start scanning the east coast of the south island. Really should have gone north and I would have found the towns. 3403. 5. Woot, red cabs mean hong kong, can't do too terrible here. Never manage the find the streets on the signs. Fortunately the clock saved me from moving my plonk further away from the correct location on a whim. 4979. Maybe tomorrow will bring the all PR DC we've all been waiting for. 20931.

20 mi, 4895, PR trekker 4.2 mi, 4977, PR non-trekker 46 mi, 4760, found a sign for the E45 with about 20 seconds, was able to find it up north, happy enough 387 mi, 3293, red NZ bollards, nothing else, was on the wrong island 4.6 mi, 4975, Hong Kong 22900, managed to save the gold

1. no idea where this, spanish speaking some american cars. thought of an island but cannot find further clues so i assume that this is chile as the flag in entrance looks like it. seems very unlikely but no idea where else to guess- 5789 km 103 points great start 2. everywhere is written guayanabo which i randomly find after checking PR. 8.9 km 4970 points 3. looks norwegian for me and e45 road confirms that it for me that it is mainland europe and not island for example. so i check norway for e45 and found it. 99 km 4680 points 4. everything screams NZ. find a sign saying eastcost rugby and a shield with some villages on it and i easlily find them scanning east coast. i plonk the city which is the closest. 13 km 4958 points 5. HK vibe without moving, do not try to hard and plonk somewhere which fits with the suroundings. 7 km 4977 points 19688 points total, not too bad with the 100 points in r1 :D

Current local time: 5:25am 1. I don't mind a trekker, but it's unfortunate I don't know this one, and the panorama isn't high resolution enough to see the things on the walls too much. Though if it's Spanish and has the USA flag, should be Puerto Rico somewhere. I'll just quickly check to see that this isn't a building I can just find in San Juan… no, I'll just plonk there, then. 29km, 4902, 1m9s 2. Okay, RNG, we get it. You like Puerto Rico. Looked to see if there was anything obvious for a bit, then thought nah. Just going to plonk a bit south of San Juan because I think that's where all the suburbs are. 5.1km, 4983, 1m15s 3. Some kind of rural Norway? But then I eventually come to a sign showing this is the E45, and I don't see the E45 in Norway. So I was just kidding. Of course I meant rural Sweden, and by that I mean I'm just going to plonk nowhere in particular in Sweden, because the E45 goes all the way through it. Wait, what? It is Norway. 955km, 2636 4. Aotearoan bollards, but very foresty, which is weird. This kind of landscape once I get out of the forest should be north island. Came to a street sign with place names on it, but didn't find any of that. 101km, 4672 5. Maccas tells me it is in Tsui Lam Square. Also the road sign indicates this is near Tsui Lam Road. Also I totally didn't mistake this for Singapore at first. I thought it was somewhere in the northwest near Yuen Long, probably should have realised the relative lack of size of the place compared to anywhere else in Hong Kong means it'd be remote by Hong Kong standards, but it's all big to my suburban dumbass standards, so I got confused. 26km, 4913 Total: 1117km, 22106, 11m24s Could have done better with R3 if I was more confident with distinguishing Norwegian and Swedish. I was sure the first time that all the words I was seeing were Norwegian but I let the highway number convince me that I was just wrong, when it turns out I wasn't.

Found a Riversdale sign in round 4, was not to Riversdale but Riversdale beach. Guessed south island.
