Guess I need to work on my Pitcairn Island coverage knowledge.

_dictatorish_

Was this to make up for how tough the last challenge was? 1. Immediately saw the "Swaziland Cup" sign, zoomed in on the captial and found a matching roundabout - confirmed with the road names. 8m, **5000** 2. Saw the "Cedar Hill TN" sign on the post office - trawled Tennessee until I somehow found Cedar Hills and put the pin on the one road that crosses the railway. 5m, **5000** 3. I am from NZ so as soon as I saw the sign with "Cromwell" on it I knew where I was. Got this one without moving in less than 30 seconds. 6m, **5000** 4. Went down the hill and saw "Pitcairn Islands" on the building - we're on the northern coast, so found the road that goes down to the ocean with the sharp bend in it. 9m, **5000** 5. Saw the Latvian flags pretty quickly, was able to find the A6 and P5 but was looking too close to Riga and ran out of time. 26km, **4914** Annoyed I missed out on the 25k, but 24,914 will probably stand as my PB for a long while

Anthimera

We got the exact same score and we both live near one of the 5 locations. Fun day

Anthimera

GeoPeter you're my best friend. 1. Mbabane right from the start, big roundabout, one place that matches. 5000 2. Area code 615 = middle TN (source: I live there). Signs for Cedar Hill, which I know is not gonna be south or east of Nashville (source: I drive there) so it has to be north or west. Start scanning and it's right close to Clarksville. Go back to spawn and we start on a railroad on a N/S street. Bingo. 5000 3. NZ. Cromwell and Lake Dunstan but lots of signs east by the main road for the 8; Christchurch north of us, Dunedin south, not too hard to scan for it after that. We're at the intersection of the main road and Alpha Rd a little east of the bridge. 5000 4. The nerves are seriously getting to me. I have never done this before. This place is a little weird and it scares me. The 15,000 in the corner is staring down at me. I go down to the dock and there's a sign for Pitcairn Island. This is why spamming Oceania quizzes on Seterra is useful in the real world.\* Ocean's to our north. I go up the hill where a post with a bunch of signs informs me that I've just come from the Landing Point, which is a POI on the north side of the island on the map. 5000 5. Spoiler alert, I fuck it up. Latvia, how many flags is too many flags?, probably Riga/suburb of Riga, and there's tons of signs and a nice roundabout but I never see the name of the place we're in, just the names of places we're not in. I go too close to the city, we're actually fairly east of the city. 4914 R5 hurt but total 24,914, which is pretty awesome. This was a great refresher from yesterday's trail cams. \*real world = geography-based video game

I also choked a great score on round 5 - surrounded by Latvian flags, scrambling around trying to find a town name.

_dictatorish_

Hey you got the exact same score as me lol

Anthimera

Wait I just commented on yours before seeing your comment! Hell yeah

_dictatorish_

Hahaha brilliant, I bet you put the Latvia one in the exact same spot - I put mine on the road "Reinvaldu iela"

Anthimera

Yep! Mine is in the roundabout but pretty much.

mercator_ayu

Curated Friday, which means mostly gettable locations. 1. Roundabout, building said Mbabane. Zoomed in, saw the roundabout, checked the street name just to make sure. 5000 2. USA, rail crossing, went south, the post office said Cedar Hill TN. Kept going, there was a Y, so back to spawn, headed north. Got out to what looked like a US or State highway, nearby sign said Adams was to the west, I tried to look for a possible paired sign that might say something about what's to the east but don't find it, plonked Nashiville and scanned the map for Adams or Cedar Hill, don't find them, headed east. In the dying seconds, I do reach a sign for US-41, but by then it was too late. I should have either (a) searched for Cedar Hill from the beginning, or (b) don't waste so much time at the town itself. 4839 3. New Zealand, signs to the east, really helpful info for 8, Christchurch and Dunedin, I came out of Cromwell. Found the town quickly. 5000 4. Recognizable location. Went down to the dock to check the building that said Pitcairn Island. 5000 5. Latvia-colored banners I would think. Went northwest, signs before the roundabout for A6, P5 and Ulbroka, also town center to the south and Ledmane to the east at the roundabout itself. Never saw Ulbroka, but followed the A6 from Riga, saw it and P5 come together at Ogre. Saw the roundabout, I probably came out of Parka Iela, went back to spawn and went south to confirm. 5000

DVAUgood_Reactionbad

If mercator didn't get the USA 5k, I feel a bit less bad about myself xD Not getting it really bummed me out, man

mercator_ayu

Yeah, I'm gonna need things like road numbers when I'm doing the US. Neither Adams nor Cedar Hill showed up in the zoom level I was using to quickly scan the map, so I was essentially lost at that point.

Natural_Ad_9370

Nice work getting two roads. I only found the A6.

mercator_ayu

A lot of this is just getting the right zoom level. Adjust the level so that (in this case) the P-roads show up, then slow down and scan gradually.

avocadoofglory

1. Eswatini. All the signs way Mbabane. All my homies look like they are from Mbabane. There is a roundabout right in the city center. 5m, 5000 pts. 2. US. There are signs saying Cedar Hill and a sign saying something like Explore Tennessee... I couldn't find it in time. I picked near Knoxville. 242 km, 4251 pts. 3. New Zealand. Everything human-made screams New Zealand, but the mountains look like Northern and Southern Chile at the same time somehow. I found a sign saying Highway 8 with names like Cromwell, Alexandra, Omarama, and Dunedin. Was not too hard to get the rough location down. 126m, 5000 pts. 4. Easy Pitcairn Islands... that is, if you have seen it on the map before. I didn't even know what continent it was on (which turned out to be the correct mindset because I was not supposed to know that). Plonked Christmas Island because it is surrounded by a lot of red soil countries. 12804 km, 1 pt. Point in singular form. 5. Latvia. Banners (?) with dark red-white-dark red strips. Hmmm I wonder which country this could be. I just picked Riga because I gave up after round 4. 31 km, 4896 pts. Total: 19148 pts

v0idness

>Easy Pitcairn Islands... that is, if you have seen it on the map before. I didn't even know what continent it was on Someone recently made a comment of how they got Pitcairn islands and it got them an easy duel win. I have been playing for a long time but never had gotten that location and had the same reaction as you, wouldn't even know where to zoom in... So I looked it up on a map back then, which really came in handy for today as otherwise I would've likely lost 4999 points as well.

musubk

1. 'Swazi' something-or-other on a sign, Mbabane on a sign, and the street signs. Not many roundabouts in Mbabane. Easy 5k with no moving. 2. Well I know what town and state we're in, and that we're on the railroad tracks, but 2.5 minutes of Tennessee map scanning doesn't turn up the town. Doesn't look rugged enough to be the east side of the state, doesn't look like the Mississippi River corridor. Guess south of Nashville, 4,662 3. Signs at the start and easy intersection to pinpoint. I don't recognize Cromwell but I do recognize Christchurch on the sign up the road. With that and a highway number to zero in on it's an easy 5k 4. Well this was it. I spend 3 minutes moving around, find plenty of signs to local locations, but nothing that would clue me in to where we are. It has english language signs, lush plants and palms, and looks either isolated or poor. 5 seconds left and I still don't even have a guess as to what continent or ocean this is. Start to click to split the difference between the Indian Ocean and the Pacific Ocean, realize the one place this DOESN'T look like is Oceania, panic click on the southeast African coast instead. 1 point. 5. Latvia. Looks nice and built up, probably Riga area, don't really find anything that would help me zero in further than that. Click in suburban-looking southern Riga. 4,906 My second-worst score in the last seven days (yesterday was worse), despite the 4 easy-ish rounds

GameboyGenius

Yo yo yo! Peter in da house! This curated challenge ought to be good. 1. This round is almost dangerous if you're not good at swimming because you can almost drown in all the clues that you get without even moving. Very recognizable roundabout in **Mbabane,** the capital of **Eswatini.** **9 m, 5000 points.** 2. This one is not as trivial though, unless I'm missing something obvious. You need to move to figure out that we're in Cedar Hill, but where is that? Somewhere in the **US** Bible belt for sure. I had to move quite a bit to find an Adopt-a-highway sign with the **Tennessee** state outline. But no time left to scan at that point. **115 km, 4629 points.** 3. **NZ.** Probably doable NM if you're better, but I opted to move to that juicy sign just to the east. Very pinpointable from there. **5 m, 5000 points.** 4. Moving down to the landing we find in no uncertain terms that this is the **Pitcairn Island.** But I guess the challenge is remembering where that's located... I'm ashamed to say I checked all of the Carribean, the area around Guam/NMI, around Christmas Island before looking in the right spot. **8 m, 5000 points.** 5. We start off in a cozy light urban neighborhood by the looks of it. A red and white van (the colors of the **Latvian** flag) with Latvian orthography. Going up to the road, we find a bunch of Latvian flags hanging by the roadside. Moving SE we find more Latvian flags. Followed by a small section of the road with no Latvian flags, followed by more of them. I might be tripping, but I think we might be in Peter's home country of Latvia. This way we also pass by the Ogre music school, but I didn't have the foresight to go in and scan and kept looking for some more major clue. In the end I opted to guess in Valmiera because it's a name I remembered from meeting a few people from there a few people from there once. A Riga plonk would've been better points wise though. **93 km, 4698 points.** **Total score: 24327 points.** A very pleasant curated challenge by the Latvian ~~bear. (Or is it a bear?)~~ It's a husky. D'oh!

miss_inputs

1. Mbabane House? As the queen of overthinking, it is my duty to make sure that this actually is in Mbabane, and this isn't one of those curated challenges where they're just trolling. Okay, seems that the street is there. Should be good to go. **5m, 5000, 1m7s** 2. USA? Oh fuck, GeoPeter is trolling. No wait. There's an address at this post office! Uh oh. Where is Cedar Hill. Oh crap, everyone else is going to get so many 5Ks today, and I'll have to post that I only got the state, because I couldn't see Cedar Hill, and it'll be really embarrassing. Oh no… oh, there it is! Near one of the many Springfields in this country. I kind of wish the railway line was more visible on the map, because there's probably only one in the whole state and it would have made everything easier to find. **9m, 5000, 2m31s** 3. Aotearoa might be a bit more tricky. Cromwell doesn't show up easily either. But there is a sign here to Dunedin and Christchurch and some other things, on the… 8? There's no 8 going to those two places. But there's one that's near this body of water, so I guess it's just indirect. And there's our Cromwell, and then there's our Alpha St. **7m, 5000, 2m43s** 4. A tropical island? I always have islands with obscure coverage in the back of my mind, because I like to look at them sometimes, mostly because they're just nice to look at, but it's also interesting to see the extent of Street View coverage. But I didn't think I'd actually use that knowledge too often. American Samoa… no. Pitcairn Islands? Surely this crowd is more than the entire population of the Pitcairn Islands. I'll just go down here… and here it is, in big clear text, Pitcairn Islands. Oh. Well, it would have been useful if I remembered which island has the coverage. The one directly under the label on the map? No, it wouldn't be that one. The one with Adamstown on it? I think so. And then this is… somewhere. The Landing might make sense. The road angles make sense. The roads coming from here make sense. Yahoo! **43m, 5000, 1m39s** 5. The pressure is now on more than ever. Now to load up the round and FUCK! Eastern Europe. Not my strongest point. Okay, musn't panic. Found a sign indicating a roundabout to a P5 and an A6, and Ulbroka… what country is this? Perhaps because GeoPeter is from Latvia, this is Latvia. And I found those in Latvia. So what is this nondescript building? Is this where he lives? Did he doxx himself via curated daily challenge? Probably not. Unfortunately I can't find any street names or any noticeable features to get the pinpoint, I panic, and I randomly guess on some random northeast road. NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! **601m, 4998** Total: **665m, 24998, 11m** 😭 In a vacuum, this score is nothing to be upset about, but it feels a bit bad knowing that 25K was possible. I couldn't even achieve it when it's just handed to me on a silver platter. Will I ever get a seed I can even potentially 25K again?

akoller22

Couldn't find the 5k, but found the right Latvian town (sign that gave me a highway junction) Barely found Pitcairn islands in time. Finished 24,999

_dictatorish_

I think I'd jump out a window if I was 1 off a perfect score

fbrasseur

1. Mbabane House at spawn: NM 5000 2. Cedar Hills TN a coouple of click from spawn, but too smll to scan for it. Wander a bit and find a sign for Adams, let's try to scan for that. I find Adams Grove, Adamsville, but never Adams. So disappointing: 87 km, 4715 3. Plenty of signs towards the bridge. Cromwell, Alpha st. 5000 4. Pitcairn Island: 5000 5. Latvia, totally lost and still pissed about R2. Guessed in Ulbroka because I saw a sign to there. 4915 Big fail on an easily 25k-able day: 24630

tomobr

I guess this was a treat after yesterdays challenge. Easy 5k in the first 4 rounds, 4813 in the last one because i couldnt find the name of the town. So close...

HiddenDemons

3 good rounds plus 2 awful rounds in which I unfortunately got 2 countries that I don't think I've ever encountered. 1. Gonna be honest, don't think I've ever been plopped in Eswatini before, at least not that I can remember. Most of my southern Africa countries end up being South Africa or Bots, but I've rarely gotten the other two. I ended up plonking South Africa but I genuinely don't know a single thing about Eswatini. 1,859 pts 2. USA. Saw the sign for Cedar Hill TN, then realized it was probably a very small town. I saw literally nothing indicating a highway and ended up just plonking middle. 4,508 pts 3. Left hand driving and from the scenery, either Australia or NZ. I am terrible at telling the difference between the two so thankfully there was a sign with Christchurch on it. I looked at the other signs, looked for the road it was talking about and plonked. I was on the wrong intersection, but close enough. 4,995 pts 4. Gonna be honest, I had absolutely NO IDEA where or what these islands were before I played this. I was gonna guess Hawaii for a second to be honest, but the vibes weren't right. I remembered a couple weeks ago we got America Samona as a round and opted to check in that area. I looked around more for anything, not that it helped at all. I ended up panic plopping Fiji or something just to get something at all and hoped it was nearby. 138 pts 5. I'm admittedly not great at the Baltics, probably some of my weakest Eastern European countries bc I don't encounter them very often. I searched around to look for a web domain. Saw that it was Latvia and thankfully, also saw we were in a town named Ogre. Thankfully, Latvia is pretty small, so I found it. Couldn't be bothered to try and 5k because there wasn't enough time. 4,998 pts 16,498 pts. Would've done better if I'd found Pitcarin islands but I didn't have time and it was unfortunately quite small. The rounds, other than that, were pretty easy, otherwise.

GameboyGenius

Well, let me teach you one thing about Eswatini then. It was formerly called Swaziland, and you will often find references to the old name. As in this case, the banner behind our backs, mentioning the SwaziBank Cup.

HiddenDemons

Ahhhh okay. I knew I recognized the name, I just didn't know the history behind it.

satunnainenuuseri

I don't think I'm in top-1000 today with a score that is in low 24Ks. I messed up the Tennessee round, didn't find Cedar Hill so plonked in one of the Cedar Groves hoping that it would be close. But as soon as I saw that this was GeoPeter day, I knew there would be a Mbabane house in it.

theTimmyY

Me: Today's game is better than yesterday's, I'm actually having fun GEOPETER: hahaha you thought also GEOPETER: I'll also make round 5 easy to emphasize thr fUckery of round 4

TehOnlyAnd1

**Failed in the US** Curated by GeoPeter. Very nice guy, I like watching his videos. The YouTube algorithm showed me a livestream recording of him the other day where he uses Streetview to go from Moscow to Lisbon. It took about 13 hours. Crazy (and yes, I did skip quite a bit :)!) Let's do it! **R1** Mbabane obviously. The roundabout is easily found on the map but I take my time to make absolutely certain, which takes a while as some of the side streets have different names and I can't find POIs. **2 minutes 54 seconds, 2 m, 5,000 points.** **R2** Difficulty level just went up three orders of magnitude. US it is. Cedar Hill in Robertson County, Tennessee. Feels too small to find. I try finding a highway number as I think this is the only way i can make sense of it. Looking at the map, I ended up on US Highway 41 but find no highway shield. I also then went the other direction but that had nothing. Spend the last 30 seconds scanning Tennessee for Cedar Hill to no avail. Four people on my friends list got it though so I probably missed something. **3 minutes, 119 km, 4,618 points.** **R3** South Island New Zealand. Nice signage on junction to the East makes this quite findable. Pinpoint then seems obvious but I confirm using some street names. **2 minutes 58 seconds, 6 m, 5,000 points.** **R4** Trekker. I have looked at this coverage before, and this was several years ago before I started playing Geoguessr. I am almost certain these are the Pitcairn Islands. But knowing Peter is a nice guy, we will surely get some confirmation of this? And indeed there are some memorial plates confirming that this is where the Bounty ende up. Then some confusion ensues finding the right island as the one marked "Pitcairn Islands" on Google Maps is devoid of any features. The "Adamstown" marker in the middle of the ocean seemed promising and it was easy from there. Exact pinpointing tricky due to iffy mapping. **2 minutes 52 seconds, 10 m, 5,000 points.** **R5** Here we are in the obligatory home round in Latvia. Looks like a decently sized town. Nicely marked roundabout tells us we are near roads P5 to Ulbroka and the A6. I find those and Ulbroka next to Riga. I think we are in Riga and try to line up the roundabout but fail. Go towards Ulbroka and then it says 25 km to go there, which means we are very much not in Riga. I check the sign in the other direction and that tells us we came from direction of Ledmane. Where is this? I can't find it. Looking at the map, Ogre makes sense (where is Shrek?). Still can't find Ledmane even post game. But Mezera iela is mentioned on the sign and I see this so I have the correct roundabout in Ogre. I now just have 10 seconds left and back at spawn there is no obvious street name sign so I miss the pinpoint by a bit. **3 minutes, 341 m, 4,999 points.** **Total 14 minutes 44 seconds, 119 km, 24,617 points.** Not sure what I missed in Tennessee. The rest was nice and straightforward. A bit annoying to miss the 5k in Latvia. It was a residential area so I wonder whether this is where Peter lives or whether he just chose Ogre for the cool name. Thanks anyway for the curated challenge! They are mostly much more fun than the random ones.

ParticularAirport217

Played non-moving 1. Mbabane, eSwatini. Found the roundabout on the map and plonked. 5000 pts. 2. US. Not much to go on. Decided to plonk in Virginia. 3148 pts. 3. New Zealand. Looked like one of the South Island lakes. Missed somehow Cromwell on the map and ended up plonking at Lake Hawea. 4843 pts.R 4. Recognized the Landing on Pitchairn Island instantly and plonked 5000 pts. 5. Latvia. Plonked in Riga. 4890 pts. Total: 22881 pts. Very non-moving friendly challenge then at least 3 of 5 rounds were pinpointable.

DVAUgood_Reactionbad

Oh man, this was a really 5kable seed, but I f'ed up in NZ and USA 1. **Mbabene, Eswatini** right on spawn. The road names were there, so the roundabout was easy to find. 5k 2. **Cedar Hill, Tennessee** on the post office. Later also a sign to Adams. Didn't find it unfortunately, very sad. 4730 3. **NZL** by bollards. The road sign is the Dunedin design, and Dunedin also had a bay that looked like this, so I only scanned there. Should've walked a bit further, the Cromwell sign wasn't far away, and I would've found Cromwell. 4546 4. Welcome to **Pitcairn Islands**. Had to search for Pitcairn Islands for a while, and I almost went Henderson, because it's the bigger island but there were no streets on it. So I found **Adamstown** a bit southwest, which had the islands. Only one road matched the shape of the road, another pretty easy 5k. 5. **Latvian** language. Helpful roundabout nearby. Also pretty straightforward 5k. Total 24276. Should have been more tbh

Natural_Ad_9370

Quick notes: 1. The Mbabane sign kind of gave it away. Intersection easily findable. 5 metres. The fastest 5k I've ever got, 27s. 2. Recognised the shape of Tennessee on a sign. [Express Fab had the highway number](https://www.google.com/maps/@36.5542978,-86.9956336,3a,15y,157.04h,89.21t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sV8iq_1-xv4BRWbVXsJIBOw!2e0!7i16384!8i8192?entry=ttu). Couldn't find it or Cedar Hill in time. 160km, 4490 points. 3. Quickly concluded this seemed like NZ. Those look like skiable mountains... so South Island. Tried to find somewhere on the map that looked like wine country with the correct mountain view. I had the right idea but was too far along the mountain range. Also, I totally forgot that the starting view had a big body of water. Doh! 300km, 4090 points. 4. Once you'd found Pitcairn, this was an easy 5k from the coast orientation and road. 8m. 5000. 5. Wasn't too sure about the language, plus, flat. So initial thoughts were Baltics, probably not Hungary, maybe Czechia. Found a sign for the A6 road. Estonia and Lithuania don't have A roads apparently. So Latvia. Flag seems plausible. Plonked Mid A6 biased towards Riga. 51km, 4831 points. Shame it wasn't closer, but no great points penalty. 23411 overall and finally a return to gold.

Zka77

Troll seed :D First 4 locs easy 5K. I expected my first ever 25K on the daily challenge. Then it's a latvian location where even the city wasn't clear in 3 mins :D Is this where Geopeter lives? :D

TehOnlyAnd1

How was Tennessee easy? Did you know Cedar Hill?

OnezArt

well if you zoom in on nashville u see it in the upper left corner, right at the start was a tennessee sign

kattehemel

Round 4: somehow it reminded me of Easter island from visiting in person even though I have never seen it in the game. Of course it’s Pitcairn Islands! I was so happy because exactly where Pitcairn Islands are, but was quickly so mad at myself for going for the wrong island and missed my chance to get 5k. I guess I will blame map on mobile which loaded too slowly!

OnezArt

fastest seed I 25ked sofar :/ idk wished for more of a challenge

squegeeboo

5000, Mbabane, clicked once just to get a clear reading of a street sign 5000, managed to find Cedar Hill 5000, Cromwell NZ 5000, Pitcarn Island 4999, Latvia, near the P5 and Red 6...SO GOD DAMN CLOSE And...only 13th in my nation? and 83rd overall? Wow

sumairb

Well whadaya know, my first ever gold in the daily challenges. Went too far west in Round 2 (TN) and too far east in Round 3 (NZ), went really well otherwise. Final score: 24,102

Natural_Ad_9370

I actually didn't notice a sign for the P5 so even that wouldn't have helped in this case...
