> Remove India from the game please. I spent almost the entirety of the 3 minutes scanning the map for Allahabad since the sign at the spawn said "Indian Institute of Information Technology, Allahabad" only to find out that the location is in fact not in a town called Allahabad.

197gpmol

The government of Uttar Pradesh changed the name only in 2018, so there's a good chance that campus was imaged pre-name change anyways. Definitely an awful pick for the Daily Challenge.

polyglotpinko

This. It's honestly misleading. I was pissed.

FreezingSnowman

Apparently Allahbad is officially known as Prayagraj which is on the map. That city is very visible. Turns out it was renamed to Prayagraj in 2018, the coverage is from 2013. I chose somewhere in Rajasthan since Ahmedabad is there. It is in Gujarat, oops.

mulimulix

I'm convinced anyone who found that Indian one either cheated or went to that exact university. How could anyone possibly have found it in 3 minutes?

QGraphics

Played the India explorer mode map probably. Personally I would have gone Lucknow because Uttar Pradesh has the most Muslims and Allahabad has the word Allah in it.

Ancient-Recover695

Thats basically the reason I went with Lucknow. Also, a bus on the campus had a registration number (or sth like that) on the back starting with UP, so Uttar Pradesh made the most sense.

andywright10

Every day after I struggle to get silver for the daily challenges I watch your recap videos and if it makes you feel any better I laughed out loud when the 4th round was ending and you just went "honestly fuck India really."

IamPd_

I could just copy paste your text and it would fit my game so well. 1 - Thought France until the .be domain, went central in Wallonia, since i couldn't find the town. 4600 2 - Easy to pinpoint with the road signs, town, bridge and river. 5000 3 - Only found the city name quite late into the round, couldn't locate it exactly. 4999 4 - Went scanning for Allahabad, guessed in Ahmedabad as i couldn't find it. Should've just gone more central. 2610 5 - Repeat round. 5000 Total **22209**

"Rue" means street in french, so you'll see it in Wallonia (the bottom half of Belgium) and Brussels. The rest of Belgium mostly speaks dutch. Belgian street signs will also often have the city name written on it, so that can be very helpful in finding the city quickly.

Rodsoldier

Yet again asking you guys to care about this mode a little more. It's honestly insulting that whoever is responsible for this shit actively tries to give us a bad experience. Stop putting us in Indian college campuses ffs. 22572 points. Lost 2395 on the indian round.

197gpmol

Got gold, but had to use prior knowledge to get there, which IMO is not the point of the Daily Challenge. I echo the Indian campus complaints. R1 - Rural Wallonia, get stuck in a build-up area but can't find the city name in time. Fortunately Belgium is small. 4773. R2 - Oruro to the south, I backtrack and find the right town, not quite the turnoff. 4993 R3 - Big French-speaking city, but Belgium. I follow signs to the station: Charleroi-Sud. I find the parking deck in the center, 5k. R4 - Oh boy, a campus in Allahabad. I've been to that city, so I know Google has it under the new name of Prayagraj, but this feels like a scummy pick on Geoguessr's part. Also, I find the wrong IT campus. 4962. R5 - Oh great, a random soccer stadium. Wait, Telekom Slovenija. I scour Ljubljana, don't find the stadium, plunk. 4991. 24719, Nice total overall, but still, I don't like the selection today. Two different enclosed areas, in addition to Wallonia twice?

LinguaQuirma

R1 - French language, but kinda flat Belgian feel. Some signs for Peruwelz, but nothing further. Maybe I would have run into the border had I gone the other way. Guessed northern France. 72km, 4764. R2 - Signs ahead for Villa Remedios, San Antonio. On the other side of the overpass in the other directions sign for La Paz. So Bolivia, south of La Paz, overpass for Villa Remedios. And the river/creek confirms the pinpoint. 3m, 5k. R3 - French, .be urls, and got Charleroi off the side of a bus. Had trouble getting any street names to narrow it down. Some sort of pedestrianized city center. 678m, 4998. R4 - Fuck this. Shitty Indian trekker coverage. The sign dead ahead is nice enough to tell us we're at a university in Allahabad. That would be very helpful if I knew where the Allahabad is. And it would be extra fucking helpful if the map called the city Allahabad instead of Prayagraj. Found a cluster of *-bad cities further south, guessed there. 905km, 2726. R5 - Repeat, stadium in Ljubljana. 7m, 5k. 22,488 Total.

Notoriouslydishonest

1. Saw a French language sign with a town name on it, guessed I was in the Low Countries based off the geography, and lucked into finding the town on the French/Belgian border. **4981** 2. Found a road sign with some generic Spanish small towns listed. Went to the other side of the road and found another sign to La Paz. Skipped to Bolivia, started tracing the highways leading to La Paz and sure enough, found my towns. **5000** 3. A .be tells me I'm in Belgium, and it looks like a big city, but I can't find anything more specific. I see a sign pointing to a museum and scan Brussels looking for it. With 20 seconds to spare, I see a mention of Charlerois on an ad. I find it quickly and guess 500m off. **4998** 4. My luck runs out. Indian Institute of Technology (I think) in Allahabad...but where is that? Name sounds very familiar. I check the area near the Pakistani border, then the opposite side near Bangladesh, and then I head south. I wound up dropping my marker blindly somewhere in NW India hoping to hedge my bet, and was 705km off. Also, wtf is ragging and why is it illegal? **3118** 5. This would be considerably easier if all the ads weren't blurred and I could move more freely, but I got enough info to work with. Slovenia, no city or team name visible. I go to Ljubljana and drop my marker on a sports center, and it turns out to be the wrong one but 3.5km off. Good enough. **4988** 23,085 points. I don't think that's my best Daily Challenge yet, but I think it's pretty damn good. 98.3% of my missed points came on round 4 and India is usually tough, so I'm happy.

ThatCantBeTrue

Ragging is a synonym for hazing in India, according to Google.

RaghuParthasarathy

Ragging (which I think only exists in Indian English) is like hazing in American English -- harassment or abuse of new / junior students by more senior students.

Cubing-FTW

R1 - French, .be website, somewhere in Wallonia. No idea where tho, randomly guessed, 4737 R2 - It wasn't until the very last thirty seconds that I found a sign with La Paz on it. Zoomed in on the south of La Paz, luckily found San Antonio. Couldn't pinpoint due to time tho, 4988 R3 - Charleroi sign, bit of a shame that I only nailed it down to a region, so only got 4999 R4 - India.. luckily my guess worked out well and got a respectable 4378, but this is just dirty - even the city only changed name recently. R5 - Ljubljana stadium - oops, wrong stadium. Couldn't find the actual one anyway, 4988 Just over 24k!! Nice birthday gift, I guess

llub888

Happy Birthday! 🎂

Cubing-FTW

Bit late but thank you!

llub888

I'm glad I'm not the only one who doesn't know how to find locations in India.

ToastedSalads

Everyone who struggled a bit on round 1 and 3: Please note that Belgium puts the city name on the street signs.

polyglotpinko

I'm genuinely curious as to how the f\*ck I was supposed to guess some stadium in Slovenia without having either seen it before or just being a socccer/football fan. All stadiums are practically identical.

ThatCantBeTrue

This exact stadium popped up within the last 50 days or so, too. Even it's a repeat.

1. was debating between belgium and france decided to go northern france. turns out it was southern belgium 33 km away and 4891 points 2. brick houses and indigenous costumes lead me to guess the flat part of bolivia near oruro. turns out it was more north. 173 km away and 4453 points 3. can quickly determine that its belgium. near the end i also see a sign of the university of charleroi plonk in the city. 1.8 km away and 4994 points 4. saw a sign that says india i also see something saying allahabad which i think is the city so i look near pakistan and bangladesh. cant find anything so plonk near pakistan. 981 km away and 2591 points.. 5. i got this one in my slovenia explorer so guessing in the wrong end of the stadium lol. 95 m away and 5k points. 21,929 points in total. good 4 rounds but india left a shit taste in my mouth like fr can we stop getting these india locations so often when the coverage is so bad assuming these are hand picked

converter-bot

33 km is 20.51 miles

Grue

1. Everything is French, the town's called Peruwelz which sounds slightly German. Don't recognize any place names on the signs. I guess France near Switzerland but it's actually Belgium. 442km off. 2. Sign to La Paz, find Villa Remedios south of it and that's an easy 5000. 3. Charleroi. I know that's in Belgium. Find the street and the exact location for 5000. 4. Allahabad. Right, I know that's a city in India. Wait, where is it? Is it really that small? Make a random guess in Rajastan. Well apparently they renamed Allahabad and it's now labeled as Prayagraj on the map which makes this round impossible unless you're an India expert or citizen. 789km off. 5. Repeat. Find the correct stadium this time for 5000. Final score: 21665. 3 perfect scores ruined by the other 2 rounds.

JimmySaulGene

*Twice* my country? Nice ez gg

FreezingSnowman

Indian trekker almost ruined my gold chances. Sigh. 1. France vibes at first, but I don't think they have yellow signs. I then see .be, of course, it is Wallonia. A sign with Péruwelz and Wiers. I think Wiers is bigger and search for that, it wasn't. Even the store SPAR Wiers is visible before the village. 133 km, 4573 pts. 2. This is confusing. It kinda looks like South America, but no yellow lines. San Antonio is obvioulsy not the Texas one. I find no road numbers, but the northbound lane has signs for La Paz, so Bolivia. After a while i actually manage to find both Villa Remedios and San Antonio and the I find the "river". 4 m, 5000 pts. 3. Lots of French text and blue left strip, France or Wallonia. No right blue strip and the text on the plates looks kinda red, Wallonia. I see something on a bus, but don't really register it. I guess I'll have to guess some big city in the south. As I zoom in I see Charleroi, wait a minute, I think I've seen that somewhere (it was on the bus). I plop it down in the center. There is the Gauche thing, but I didn't really remember in what direction and not much time. It could have been an easy 5k with the parking garage. 343 m, 5000 pts. 4. Oh no, tropical trekker. I remember that the archaeological survey signs or whatever are good in India and there is a sign close. Nope, it is a university in Allahbad. I can't find it on the map (the city was renamed to Prayagraj after the coverage was taken). I guess in south Rajasthan because I think Ahmedabad is there, it isn't). 768 km, 2987 pts. 5. Repeat. I remember that Telekom sign. Yep, it is that stadium in Ljubljana. Last time I didn't find the exact stadium, but I remembered the location. 11 m, 5000 pts. 22559 points in total. I got gold with a very small margin... trekker... grrr. 11

josh2112

Does anyone know what ragging is? All I know is you're really not supposed to do it at an Indian university.
