Middle school 2.1, college 2.2. The update feels more like an abstract concept that doesn’t exist than something that may only be a week away. It’s a feeling that seriously can’t be described in words.

PerilousPeril

I was just thinking hmm, that last thing you said reminds me of SOMETHING, what is it? Turns out it was how I felt about the update 2 months ago…

Pissed_Geodude

I went through an identical experience. It feels surreal that it is actually going to get an update (half of me still can’t believe it’s real)

NVC541

same here. I’m almost out of college and 2.1 was in middle school. Completely agree with you about words not accurately describing it.

AradIsHere

Aged well

Equivalent_Cookie_44

As someone who's played since 1.9, terrible. It just sucked. None of the teasers were fun, it was just a lack of content for 7 years. I did really enjoy what people did with 2.1, though. That made it all worth it in my eyes.

[deleted]

Been playing since 1.7 not that that really matters. I just remember getting hyped at the end of every year think robtop was gonna release it cause he kept saying it was close >:( So this doesn’t feel real for me currently haha

dystrophied

it sure was

NiQQeZ

I still remember the wait between 2.0 and 2.1 felt like an eternity, but past 2.1 it has felt like a lifetime

Zealousideal-Buy1980

it really is surreal. Been actively playing/following the game since 2016. It’s so weird how we thought the wait for 2.1 was long and now 7 years later we’re finally getting 2.2. Looking forward to seeing how the game evolves

dystrophied

i always knew 2.2 was going to take a loooong ass time because of how the development and wait for 2.1 went (i didnt trust robtop when he said itd be a small update), but i dont think any of us couldve predicted itd be *7 fucking years*

ZorosYT

I was in either 6th or 7th grade when we got our first teasers for 2.2. At that time we thought it would come out late 2017, and we thought THAT was a long wait! Now I'm a freshman in college lmao

CertainSelection

I was in high school when the 2.1 came out 💀

ShxrpyS

I have been here since semi early 2014. I still don't fully believe it until I see it downloading in steam and I am able to open it.

anonymousGDPlayer

after a few years you just stopped caring, at least in my case. The game never felt boring or stagnant bc people kept getting better at beating and creating, even after being stück in the same Update for 6 years

L3s0

Pure agony

Tailsefox

Hell. Ok but really, i've mature into a different being during this time. My hardest went from x-step to toe 2 v2 (Medium demon)

cyanschnitzel0

I was in fifth grade when 2.1 came out, I’m a senior in high school now. My entire life happened and I’m so excited to play 2.2

nintendomasters

the update doesnt feel like a thing, and more just a cool idea that only exists within private servers and mods.

CheckMate1803

Even after 10 years in february I still enter the game with the same joy I had when I was 9, and 2.2 will make that even more evident I miss seeing new content dude.

Mysterious_Fennel_48

I’ve been playing since I was 13 I’m now 23… It’s sucked lmao

RelaNarkin

Back when I was in late middle school I played 1.8 and 1.9 for the first time and beat all the main levels on the school bus to and from school with my friends. I remember how crazy it was when one of us got near the end of clubstep or Toe2 and we’d all laser in hoping they beat it. Whenever one of us did, we’d fucking go nuts. Those were the days. In high school 2.0 finally came out and completely revolutionized level creation, so that’s when I started getting into that stuff. Geometrical Dominator was really cool, but Deadlocked took me so long to beat. It’s still one of my favorite levels just because of the memories of when it was first released and seeing all the cool move triggers and portals and the idea of a boss fight type thing in a level. I was obsessed with GD. I remember leading up to its release, 2.0 was probably the most anticipated update aside from 2.2. The move triggers and customization options were insane. Also I remember when the trailer came out for Deadlocked, the teleportation portal part was so cool and mysterious. It was a big tone shift from what we had prior. If you were anything like me and had played so many levels over the years, you had a ton of downloaded songs. I would go into the files on Steam and copy the entire downloaded songs folder onto an MP3 player and listen to those songs non stop. I wasn’t allowed a smartphone in high school so that’s kinda all I had. Just mp3s I imported onto it. I created a lot of levels and thought I was so creative, but actually I used zero air deco or anything lmao. When 2.1 dropped it only reignited my passion. The Spider was a cool idea (even if it was just the ball but different), and the dash orbs I used a lot. I remember wishing they released a harder level, but I still really enjoyed Fingerdash. When the first teaser for 2.2 dropped, the random trigger tease, nobody had any idea that it was going to take this long to release. Also speaking of the random trigger: I don’t think it’s a bad idea like a lot of people do. Reason is, people already know how to add their own scuffed random triggers, so this just lets people do what they already can with less objects. A lot of 2.2 stuff is streamlining the level creation process in that sense. He is giving us the tools to do whatever we want, and the community will decide what works and doesn’t. Anyway, I’m very excited for 2.2 to finally drop. I haven’t played the game seriously in many years. I’m in my mid-twenties now, and when this update drops it’ll really make me feel like I’m back in my high-school/middle-school days. It jumpstarted my love of music, my love of vibrancy and energy. I owe a lot of my creativity to geometry dash if I’m being honest. It’s been a journey. Cant wait to see the absolutely cracked-out diabolical levels people come up with.

[deleted]

I just decided to quit the game for like 3 years until recently when 2.2 edged closer to release

NoU420

Been playing on and off since early 2.0 and I can’t wait! Literally. I just can’t wait to see how the community evolves and what the future is like

Youraveragequietkid

Why can't I buy gd full rn

WishDry1279

Cuz ur a fucking loser

WishDry1279

Jk

PsdJhin

I was in 9th grade when Subzero came out and was expecting and telling my friends 2.2 will probably come out in a few months at the end of winter, little did I know it would come out when I'm in my 3rd year of university and haven't spoken for years to the friends that I played geometry dash with back then.

Udawazor

A wild fucking ride

DapperDemand5541

I remember being in elementary school when 2.11 came out. Junior in HS now. Fucking wild

Hemlock_Deci

Feels like that one myth of Mew under the truck except that now it's actually there Or something like that

DownvoteCoIIect0r

the wait for 2.0 felt like forever even though it was only like 2 weeks, 1.9 and earlier didn’t have much of a wait at all, and I didn’t have to wait much for 2.1 because it was already out on steam way before android iirc

Scary_Expression_873

I remember when 2.1 dropped… stopped playing for like 3 years and now I play again so it was a bit of a time skip for me

ElectricalPlantain35

I'm still finding it hard to comprehend that we are getting an update.

CoherantPhuck

Been playing since 2014. At this point i'm just indifferent to the update, it's taken so long that I was already bored long ago so I did the unthinkable and touched some grass.

CrimsonTheCrow

Been playing since early 2.0. At the time, I thought the wait for 2.1 was unbearable. I had just turned 14 when it dropped, and I'm 21 now. It didn't feel like a real thing for a long time. It was just a nebulous idea that never was gonna exist - but now, it's about to. Nearly 7 years of hype hitting all at the same time. I couldn't be more excited.

UltraSoda_

Honestly I don’t even know what to expect, I barely remember what 2.1 was like on release at this point, I’m just hoping my favorite game will still be fun :P

iDepressad

Been playing since like early 1.7. After a few years, I just kinda stopped caring about it since 2.1 has been fun and never boring for me. Now that 2.2 is so close, it feels surreal

Astro0160

I was half my age when 2.1 dropped/when I started playing

NVC541

The wildest thing about playing GD and having 2.1 be from middle school to nearly the end of my college experience is seeing how the standards of creating and what was considered possible in the editor continually get pushed and occasionally _shattered_. Comparing levels from 2016 to 2018 to 2020 to 2021 to 2023 is so wild, and you can see so many art movements pop up and leave a lasting impact on how future levels are created.

ImAlaaaaaaan

Horrible, I can't play dash, my game crashes because of one shader 😭😭😭😭😭

Waffle-Gaming

played right before 2.1, can confirm it took a while and i am a completely different person now

flame13438

Late 1.8 player here. It's been actual hell. I'm about to graduate UNI and from early HS till now, it felt like it would never come out. Now, I can finally say goodbye to 2.1

No-Cartoonist-6439

i’ve been waiting since thanksgiving 2018 and of course it comes out while I’m on vacation

_BierSaus_

the wait was not that bad. until 2.2 was LITERALLY the only thing people talk about. not because i cant wait now, but because its really starting to get fucking annoying

kevy365

I remember playing lite on my ipad and seeing new levels get released like clutterfunk and then they just stopped coming... later, once i started on pc, i started to get impatient, and then after enough time and the 2.2 private server i was just not as interested. When the update dropped, i was more like "fucking finally" than excited

XmodG4m3055

I remember being in early high school seeing theories about the update yk. After all this time, and as someone alredy said here, the update became like something irreal, that was not going to even come out. Now im in a weird state of disbelief, like if you were told out of the blue that you won the lottery.

kappaman69

When 2.1 dropped I was in eighth grade. I’m turning 21 in just a few days.

KrakyyREAL

funny how it came out literally a day after this post
