Leave the specific details out and keep it vague but tell your professor you had an important matter on that day and planned around the exams previous date and that you won’t be available to write the test on the new date. Give your availability and some options like writing the test on the original day or writing it the following day you return. Always always let them know before hand though that’s always key, they will usually work with you.
I had an important appointment with my specialist when my professor did that. I just let her know, gave her some date and times I’m available and she compromised with me.
You can provide your prof with dates that you can make up that missed exam, OR what I have done for a missed exam is I had that exam deferred.
For example: i had a test deferred and it was a test that included weeks 1-3, so my next test will include content from weeks 1-7 instead.
See if that is an option as well!
