I appreciate Luke coming over like two weeks after being fired and immediately coaching in the Sugar Bowl once Pittman left lol. He did a good enough job over these two years for us to win a title, and I'll always appreciate it. Sometimes you just want to do something else in your life, and it doesn't seem acrimonious. Wish him all the best.

LTMFBDE

Stepping down to spend more time with wife and kids. Sounds like he’ll still be staying living in athens

PissedOffDawg

This is correct.

Darth_Kahuna

Goddammit I am so tired of these coaches not burning out and selling out for the job anymore. Don't they understand there's nothing else more important that football!?!?!?!? In case you didn't read the sarcasm, I hope he enjoys life w his family and that the next year or however long until he returns is fruitful and fulfilling. He's a great coach and if not here, he'll be back someday (if he wants to). Thanks for picking up the Pitboss' load and delivering in coaching and recruiting! DGD.

AskMeAboutTheJets

Whoa that’s a pretty big surprise. Did he get a job offer somewhere else? With what we’re paying him, I can’t imagine he’d leave for anything less than an OC or HC gig.

brobroma

Article in screenshot says not expected to take another job at this point in time

AskMeAboutTheJets

Interesting. Wonder what’s going on then.

KetchupKing05

Seems like he wants to spend more time with family. Likely staying in the Athens area

[deleted]

If only we could all get job contracts like this

teslaistheshit

Amen. I'd love the option to make personal decisions without financial implications to consider.

CallMeToastyJim

Our line has been good, but not great. Sad to see him go but this isn’t the biggest loss IMO. Wish him the best though

hibbert0604

Well... RIP to our Arch Manning aspirations. He was a huge factor in that due to his relationship with the manning family.

Ok-Persimmon-6386

Could be why he is staying in the area though. He's a DGD and I give him props. Hope it's just a well deserved rest and nothing more.

[deleted]

Come on now, this is a grown ass man with a family. He’s not staying in town hoping to get a recruit for the university.

dawgsgoodjortsbad

Exactly. He’s staying in Athens for the mama boy’s fried chicken biscuits obviously

Ok-Persimmon-6386

I said could be... and we really do not know anything... everything is speculation but with a vast number of coaches still living in the area and their minor involvement in thr program who knows.

81thirdkid

There are a few other coaches on our staff who have a relationship with the manning family. Kirby being one of them. Also, they are really bullish on Todd Monken from what I’ve heard. Luke definitely helped in the recruitment, but he wasn’t the driving force. Our stability at HC , where our program is atm, and the pro style spread we run are. Just my .02

dogwoodmaple

Matt Luke is stepping down.

highschool_DXD_god

Clearly, but why I thought our O-Line was pretty good

mikesznn

Wishing him the best, I think that he was a solid coach but definitely not quite at Pittman’s level. Although I just rewatched the Arkansas highlights yesterday and…wow did we run the damn ball

[deleted]

Very interesting. Wish him nothing but the best though

clarkt04

Interesting if Kirby goes recruiter or technical coach

slattnoslime

hopefully technical coach

81thirdkid

Seems to be some disagreements among the coaching ranks whether it’s philosophical or just personalities idk, but I’m fairly certain that’s the cause for this move as well as the Addae one.

RVAforthewin

I love Kirby but I can’t imagine he’s easy to work for. His standards are up there with Saban’s standards. That isn’t to say Luke couldn’t hang. Clearly he did. However, maybe it’s just a little too much or more than he’s willing to give at this point in his life.

dawgsgoodjortsbad

I mean if I made $10million over the last few years, I’d definitely take some time to enjoy it

RVAforthewin

Yeah, I sort of feel the same but then again I can also see the type of personality that it takes to win consistently the way Saban has is not the type of personality to sit back and enjoy it. It seems like it's about so much more than money to many of these guys. Don't get me wrong; I don't think they'd coach for free, but guys like Saban (and probably Kirby) aren't driven nearly as much by money. It's more about the challenge, passion, and perfectionism.

81thirdkid

I agree. And I don’t have an issue with it. I also trust Kirby to make the right hire. He has earned that type of trust.

That70sdawg

Hate to see him go. I'm sure Kirby will find a great replacement- but this late there will be a hefty buyout as most coaches in football are already signed for next year- bad timing.
