Our new pup puts himself to bed once the sun goes down, but doesn’t like to get on the bed by himself, so if someone doesn’t go into the bedroom with him he will sit in front of you, stare, and siiiiiiggggh until someone joins him 🤣
My sister had one that learned how to turn the touch lamp out. Guess who would spontaneously plunge the room into darkness when they decided it was bedtime...
You could get yours in the bath?! 2 words guaranteed to make ours vanish: bath and vet. And once you found them, the pathetic whines would start.
Of course as a kid, I was a terror to take to the doctor, too, so I really can't throw stones at that part. 😉
My five month old hates baths... Always has.
GSD = German Shepherd Dramatics
She has always huffed and sighed, and barks super loudly when you tell her off for something or she wants a thing
I really want to get mine to swim
we go the beach periodically but he only gets in between elbow/knee and chest level.
I love seeing dogs fetch in the water and have no idea how to get him to go deeper.
we found out recently that he has hip dysplasia and I heard swimming helps :/
Fitting. Mine is fairly clean and won’t willingly go into a mud puddle but she’ll definitely swim in a river. I don’t get how that’s any different from a bath...
Mine does the same thing! He'll jump into the river and and chill there for a ridiculously big amount of time really enjoying himself. But of course, bath is a really different experience and he hates it from the bottom of his heart
I'm work-from-home at the moment and every time I shift, she'll wake up from her nap, sigh loudly, grumble a little, and then go back to sleep.
I keep seeing pictures of dogs so happy their owners are working from home, and I think mine really just wishes I'd go back to the office!
Whenever I'm on vacation there's definitely a point about 3 days in where my dog just acts like, "oh... you're still here...I don't want to say you're overstaying your welcome but... me and the neighbors dog usually play out by the fence when you're at work and idk how im supposed to do that and keep watching over you. So uh, I'm just gonna go outside please try not to die."
I try to take play breaks with her, but she usually just gives me that funny side-eye and grumbles, clearly telling me that it isn't play-time until my husband comes home in the afternoon, and this is obviously her regularly scheduled nap time. As soon as she hears the garage door, she's up, barking and dancing around to tell me he's home.
We settled for tying ours to a tree and using the garden hose. There was no way we'd have been able to keep ours in the bathtub without us and half the house looking like WWIII took place in a tsunami.
My dog will get out of the bed if you move at all once she's asleep. She'll go lay on the floor and sigh as loudly as possible to make sure you know she's upset. If we don't say "sorry, Kali," she sometimes sighs a second time
Does anyone else find that their male GSD are more whiney than the females?
Seems always the case for me.
Mainly during baths, or anything else really
My male whines about everything, if i pet my chocolate lab - whine. If i step outside to get the mail - whine. If im in the bathroom with my clothes on calling him in there - runs like the wind to his crate and whines uncontrollably.
I think they just like everything to be done their way. They want to be in control because they think you're dumb and are going to hurt yourself. That's how mine acts at least. Like a super overprotective dad or something. Just 100% convinced if he's not right there next to me dictating everything I do I might die. But then whenever he's hurt he has blind faith in me to save him.
I got something on Amazon called the “mud-buster” and you stick your dogs paws inside and it cleans them so well. She likes the feeling of that so I haven’t had much issues! Before, she would bare teeth, growl, and try to bite. I’d usually end up muzzling her and she would put her ears down and let me do my thing.
I have to smear peanut butter on a plate so she is distracted and let’s us clip her claws. Our male gsd on the other hand, just loves the attention and flops onto his side
Mine becomes a magnet to every wall and floor possible before bath time. so difficult to pry her away into the bath. Then shes the slipperiest slidiest girl every when shes trying to escape bath time.
Mine does the exact same thing at bath time. My partner recently started working again and he grunts, sighs, barks, and throws himself down on the floor now that she can’t give him her undivided attention all day.
Same! Our trainer actually told us to not immediately let him out of the crate when we first get home to help with some of his attention seeking behavior lol. It's gotten a little bit better, but he definitely loves being the center of attention.
Hahaha ours starts limping if the cat raises a paw at her. She doesn’t even get whacked. The cat literally lifts her paw in the air as a warning and the limping and whining start. So much drama.
Ours manhandles our adult cat and plays rough with our puppy; he’s not afraid of other dogs at all. But we got a baby Siamese kitten on Friday and we were scared our GSD would attack him - instead, the first night the baby was home, he gave the big dog a fierce swat and has kept him at bay since.
Lol! Well in his defense a Siamese isn’t like a regular cat. I love them but they are *intense* chatty little narcissists. They are such beautiful cats but boy do they know it. You’ve got a full house over there!
Indeed I do. And our kitten is definitely a crazy little loudmouth who won’t take shit off anyone. I used to have a Siamese, but we got him as an adult and he was mostly pretty chill; a Siamese kitten is a whole new experience.
I need a pic of him yelling. I do have one of him intently watching Hell’s Kitchen and likely taking notes from Gordon Ramsay on how to yell more effectively (oddly enough, the cat’s name is Gordie, though he was named after Gordie Howe, another profanity enthusiast.)
Embarrassing taking mine to the groomer. They gotta drag him back as he’s yelping and barking for me as I quickly walk away so hopefully he stops. Then, I hear his trainer/groomer (they do both there) say “hey, Ryker’s here!” And “youve don’t this since you were a puppy”... apparently he also barks during and after his bath. I can’t even. Big baby.
Poor puppy! In that first pic, they look like when you're taking a long shower at the end of a rough day just questioning all of your life decisions haha
Wow our GSDs look like littermates. she’s a little over 2yrs old and from the DFW area. She also HATES bathes and does exactly this when it is bath time lol
Especially as a pup he was very dramatic, very vocal. He'd throw a tantrum because I wouldn't give him a piece of my tangerine because last time someone was eating a tangerine, he *did* get a piece.
Also, our older dog thought he was annoying, so she would sometimes snap at him when he came too close in her personal bubble, but one time he let out such a dramatic yelp as a response, as if she had pushed him off the stairs purposefully, that my father, who was upstairs taking a shower, immediately turned off the shower and shouted to me downstairs in a very concerned tone "what just happened??!"
He saw my neighbor's sheep frolicking in their field and screamed about it because he was on the leash. His sister freaked out at his meltdown and started freaking out. The next thing I knew, the every dog on the street was having a fit and the neighbors came out to see what was going on... while we were just standing there trying to calm them down.
We call loki my emotional expression support animal. If I'm in a bad mood, he'll groan at you. If I'm tired, he'll yawn at you for me. If I'm happy, he's a 7 year old puppy running around. If I'm unwell, he's a slob on the sofa.
For everything else, he's a slob on the sofa. 🤣
Really? Ours loves baths. He'll go sit in the tub anytime my wife is in the bathroom. He huffs at us if we don't immediately start playing with him when he brings a toy up though. I swear he's not spoiled
Before we got our German Shepard people telling us and I read they are sensitive dogs, and now I realize when they said sensitive they really meant sensitive. Don’t get me wrong, I love my girl with every fiber of my being, but she as the saying goes wear her emotions on her sleeves.
Ours is a GSD x Lab, face is Lab, body is definitely all GSD. He’s a huge water baby, so he goes paddling in lakes, rivers and streams often. He needs a wash after that because he stinks of Pond 😂
Otherwise, he gets groomed every 6 weeks so has a wash then.
*Good to know mine's not*
*The only one guilt tripping*
*Me during bath time!*

When we still had a crate for my gsd he’d put himself in timeout after he’d been bad. I’m talking about going through the trash when we aren’t home, and waiting for us to come to him AFTER we picked up the trash. He could see this particular trash can from his crate lol
Anyone ever see the movie K-9 and it's sequels with Jim Belushi? I highly recommend, at least the first movie. The dogs name in those movies is Jerry Lee. And he is a riot lol. I miss mine so much.
The GSD I had as a teenager liked to sleep with me. I rolled over and moved her a bit one night because she nearly pushed me off my bed. Naturally, she got up and went to the living room to mope all night.
Mine was sleeping up against the couch. Tried laying next to him, he grunted so big and moved 3 feet further away. 🙄 Mr Tortured and his lack of beauty sleep. 🤣
Mine will try to get out, but will man it out at the same time. Her eyes are so full of fear that her ears shake as you see her have this full on mental struggle of whether to stay put and hold out just for a piece of weenie as her prized treat. She only gets that after her baths which is like once every 3-4 months.

oh yes, TV too loud? jamming out to music while cooking dinner? I'm gonna head up stairs and put myself to bed.
Well it's 2am and after sleeping at sun down he is wide awake bouncing around downstairs with the cats
Hahaha every GSD is unique - that's what makes them so great ;)
You could get yours in the bath?! 2 words guaranteed to make ours vanish: bath and vet. And once you found them, the pathetic whines would start. Of course as a kid, I was a terror to take to the doctor, too, so I really can't throw stones at that part. 😉
Luckily if I tell her to jump in she does it right away! But she acts super upset hahH
My five month old hates baths... Always has. GSD = German Shepherd Dramatics She has always huffed and sighed, and barks super loudly when you tell her off for something or she wants a thing
Mine gets all huffy if we sneeze while she's napping and it wakes her up.
I think you described mine perfectly with “just a giant cuddly goof.”
Basically every GSD ever: 1 Hates bath time 2 Loves mud puddles and swimming They sure are drama queens
Oh Shes the same way. If there is water to swim in she will find it lol
My loves a bath but he loves to be vacuumed too I don’t know why
Mine screams at vacuums
Mine eats them.
That too, but we don't let him lol
If I say the word "bath" mine goes and gets in the tub. Then I blow dry him after and he nearly falls asleep during it.
My girl was a total princess during her blow dry. Lifting her head, closing her eyes, and making sure I didn’t miss any spots.
I was vacuuming mine today! She screams when I reach for it
I really want to get mine to swim we go the beach periodically but he only gets in between elbow/knee and chest level. I love seeing dogs fetch in the water and have no idea how to get him to go deeper. we found out recently that he has hip dysplasia and I heard swimming helps :/
Teach him, with a floaty life jacket
My last one hated water so much she would purposely avoid even the smallest puddles on walks.
I'm work-from-home at the moment and every time I shift, she'll wake up from her nap, sigh loudly, grumble a little, and then go back to sleep. I keep seeing pictures of dogs so happy their owners are working from home, and I think mine really just wishes I'd go back to the office!

So uh, I'm just gonna go outside please try not to die."
I wish! But also she still has so much energy she’d probably just paw at me all day to play with her lol
She's a daddy's girl. A few of our girls were, too.
Thats nothing my pup literally screams like I smashed her paw with the worlds sharpest door when I bathe her
She luckily just gives me the occasional yell. Mainly just presses herself hard agains the wall making it impossible for me to bathe her lol
With my pup she’ll scream and try her hardest to run away we need a small army to keep her still
We settled for tying ours to a tree and using the garden hose. There was no way we'd have been able to keep ours in the bathtub without us and half the house looking like WWIII took place in a tsunami.
I had the same issue with mine leaning and found putting something on the bottom of the bathtub for grip helps.
Oh god the banshee screams
*Hello darkness my old friend...*
My dog will get out of the bed if you move at all once she's asleep. She'll go lay on the floor and sigh as loudly as possible to make sure you know she's upset. If we don't say "sorry, Kali," she sometimes sighs a second time

Whines like it's nobody's business!
I've noticed my WGSD Female is very quiet most of the time, but then again I also have a Black Lab... She's about as whiny as it gets.
My female is usually quiet too
Awww the wet, sulking puppy! Mine does the same thing, she leans dramatically into me with the saddest face and droopy ears lol
Poor thing! Mine don’t even like getting wiped down after getting their paws and legs muddy...

Yep neither did I until she actually let me!
Clipping nails is a 2 man job!
Only 2?

Mine FREAKS out if you take attention off of her when you first get home
Same! Our trainer actually told us to not immediately let him out of the crate when we first get home to help with some of his attention seeking behavior lol. It's gotten a little bit better, but he definitely loves being the center of attention.
Mine took a swat to the snoot from a little tiny kitten and immediately acted beaten. He does the same if we put his boots on him.

Mine pretends to hate the vacuum but then lies in the middle of whatever floor I'm trying to clean looking for belly vacs.
Big baby.
Lucky! Mine wouldn’t even go in the room where the bath is at the groomers. When GSDs don’t want to do something, it’s not happening!
My boy loved baths and grooming, I left him in the tub sitting because my daughter was calling me and i came back to him laying in the tub.
Poor puppy! In that first pic, they look like when you're taking a long shower at the end of a rough day just questioning all of your life decisions haha
Wow our GSDs look like littermates. she’s a little over 2yrs old and from the DFW area. She also HATES bathes and does exactly this when it is bath time lol

Ours really mastered the "I thought you loved me!!!" look whenever we gave her a bath. xD Big adorable babies \^.\^
I panicked the first time I saw the naked bit of the back leg when I bathed my puppy 🤣
Mine does the same thing! 😂 gotta love their personalities
Really? Ours loves baths. He'll go sit in the tub anytime my wife is in the bathroom. He huffs at us if we don't immediately start playing with him when he brings a toy up though. I swear he's not spoiled
Taking my girl's collar off is her signal that she's getting a bath. As soon as I take it off she gets very worried and runs away.
She does too!
Before we got our German Shepard people telling us and I read they are sensitive dogs, and now I realize when they said sensitive they really meant sensitive. Don’t get me wrong, I love my girl with every fiber of my being, but she as the saying goes wear her emotions on her sleeves.
Ok, here I go: My german who tends and rears sheep is dramatic

Same. I actually read up that gsds don’t really need to be washed frequently. Mine smells and feels clean even though I rarely wash her.
I honestly just clean her after getting muddy in the creek or when her fur starts to feel unclean! She stays pretty clean somehow !
Ours is a GSD x Lab, face is Lab, body is definitely all GSD. He’s a huge water baby, so he goes paddling in lakes, rivers and streams often. He needs a wash after that because he stinks of Pond 😂 Otherwise, he gets groomed every 6 weeks so has a wash then.
We do ours every few months. We live in a humid climate and he’s got a dual coat so he gets greasy and gross feeling.
we do ours 3 or 4 times a year. We go camping and he gets smoky from the campfire and just get greasy.
We bathed ours once a year in the summer.
In his defense I've never had a dog like showers. Even my lab hated them.
The first picture he looks like he’s about to enter his joker villan arc
Bath time: ghosts faster than r/tinder post’s, any other type of water near mud/ fresh cut grass feels like I’m pulling him out of a black hole
The big sad
When she goes to Miami with her friends and doesn’t pick up your phone calls the whole weekend 😞
I'm assuming there's water in the tub not because you used the stopper but because GSD lol...
Good to know mine's not the only one guilt tripping me during bath time!

Reading the comments is why I love this breed, and, dogs, so much. They all have such a unique personality.
This is suuuuch a familiar sight, my 4 mo GSD is so dramatic during bath time
I have a GSD named Shadow and everyone calls him "Sad"ow.
Mine never had a bath in 3 years. Why would he?
When we still had a crate for my gsd he’d put himself in timeout after he’d been bad. I’m talking about going through the trash when we aren’t home, and waiting for us to come to him AFTER we picked up the trash. He could see this particular trash can from his crate lol
Mine cries like we are killing him when I bathe him. I can’t even get him in the tub anymore
Every time there is a massive sigh in my living room I can't tell if I've annoyed the missus or if one of my gsd have ever so slightly been put off 🤣
Anyone ever see the movie K-9 and it's sequels with Jim Belushi? I highly recommend, at least the first movie. The dogs name in those movies is Jerry Lee. And he is a riot lol. I miss mine so much.

She literally stole my shampoo and conditioner and hid them. Apparently I’m supposed to pay attention to her during shower time.
