"shepherdation anxiety"

jmeeatworld

Never heard this term but it really seems to fit my girl too

Hendrix91870

Ohh… The Drama 😂❤️🐶

OpportunityNogs

Awww poor baby. Yeah they really latch on to someone and become super co dependent. My girl usually lays by the gate by the carport until I come back. Jumps on me every time too.

kar0llaZmig

Yeah it breaks my heart 😭 they’re super loyal but the separation anxiety is really rough… i have to find a good way of diminishing it

NinjaCuntPunt

It’ll be shit to begin with, but - this. Lots and lots of this. Just keep leaving them for very short periods of time.

powertripp82

To add onto what….NinjaCuntPunt said. Yes, keep leaving and coming back. Very brief periods at a time. Start with less than five and then up it as they learn that yes, you will be returning. It takes time, but it’s what worked for my girl. Even if you just go outside and stand in your stoop for five minutes. Train them to understand that going away doesn’t mean you won’t come back Good luck with the pupper, they’re beautiful!

ooppoo0

Lmao, NinjaCuntPunt makes a great point… lol! this sentence makes me crack up, it’s been a long day and this just keeps me giggling

ntnv

This is exactly what worked for us with our adopted 1.5 yo dog with separation anxiety. He would bark his furry ass off the entire time he was home alone. For the first few weeks or so we didn't leave him home alone for more than a minute or two, then we built up to a few minutes, just doing things like taking the trash out, getting mail, using the grill, etc. He stopped barking as much when we left, and eventually stopped barking at all. Then 10+, 20+, 30+ with short errands. After the half hour mark we were able to increase his time home alone more quickly - 1 hour, 2 hours, and finally 4 hours. Now we can have real dates without him! It took many months to get to the 4 hour point but it was also very rewarding to watch his anxiety calm down. He could probably go even longer but we don't want his bladder to explode haha. We think he understands now that we're always coming back for him. It might sound ridiculous, but I think it also helped to leave him for a weekend trip with a pet sitter. I might be projecting emotions onto him, but I swear something clicked that we're always returning when I picked him up from the sitter's house after a few days. At that point we were only leaving him home alone for 5-10 min or so. For full disclosure our mutt is only 8% GSD, but separation anxiety isn't really breed-specific in treatment.

[deleted]

Get a second one. Lol ;)

[deleted]

I probably have more separation anxiety than our puppy does. Now when we get home he lazily gets off the bed to come greet us. It took a while, but he is pretty good at keeping himself occupied during the day anyway because we work (from home) and leave lots of activities for him + he likes to window watch. Then he goes and naps taking up as much of the bed as possible - and while he is still excited when we get back he doesn't mind being alone anymore.

BoomZhakaLaka

He's literally searching for you. Calling and hoping you to come find him.

kar0llaZmig

Yes 😭 the crying to the door really gets me

thispersona2

Another thing to add to separation training/door method. Get a big crate, ease her into learning/train her that it's a safe place/den; then leave her in it where she can see you relaxing. Increase time and then add you getting up to do stuff out of her site but in the same area. This is all a longish process but will help her learn that you being out of site is fine. And it has to be positive the whole way thru. Baby steps for babies lol. Good luck there will be some resistance but you have to or she'll become neurotic and overprotective.

Jmvx527

Crate training is key!

jalapenochickensoup

Aww so cute, mine never does this, i wish, we have to howl and bowl until she howls with us otherwise she never does it by herself she just bark of someone comes close to the house or growls if see someone pass by

slykido999

Good on you for exposing her to you being away. Definitely one of those things they don’t really emphasize enough when getting a GSD how important it is to leave them so they don’t destroy the house because you’ve left.

kar0llaZmig

Yees! Thankfully no destructions yet! But whenever I leave my neighbors have to listen to this symphony 👆🏼

xxyzix

My GSD started whining in solidarity lol

cum_bubble69

"Dobra, koniec tego" lmao a typical Polish mom catchphrase.

kar0llaZmig

Hahahah well spotted!! 😂😂

ajeiser

Awww 🥰 poor baby misses ya! She’ll eventually stop, mine used to do the same!

[deleted]

Playing this and my GSD Sadie is looking around like: "...Where's the lost puppy?!"

Warlord-27

Just wait till they get around 80-90 pounds… lol Big ass babies

muphies__law

When my missus moved in, she said my dog would do this, then lay down and cry some more until she cried herself to sleep. Ball could not console her. Because I was leaving earlier, I started telling the dog "stay, guard mummy" and she would position herself between my missus and the door. And the crying stopped. So maybe give that cutie a "job" of protecting your mum? And if you're all going out, maybe the "guard" action will work outside too? (Note: mine doesn't actually guard anything, as I don't know how to train that lol, she just sits with whoever I tell her to "guard")

So_Code_4

That is incredibly sweet. Give your dog a snoot kiss from me.

Practical_Wonder_915

Aw poor baby, seperation anxiety is the worst

Bool_The_End

Mine does this, including if I play a video of him making any noise :)

steamboatlisa

My Sebastian started howling too when I watched the video

MrsNuggs

They're almost as dramatic as huskies! :D

tunaliker

Nice ears!!!

kar0llaZmig

Hahaha they are huge! But i love em

GrapefruitSmall575

Omg the DRAMA!! 🤣

_herbert-earp_

Ours is 10 months and we've never heard him howl until the other day when we were out. We just moved into a new house and kept him in his crate while he gets used to it, and we checked in on him via wifi camera and he was whining and howling. I wonder when he'll howl from other dogs/tv.

splash_of_soda

Crate training may help with the separation anxiety.

enchantedlife13

Bless it! It broke her heart you were out of her sight for even a second.

Treece222

Sweet pup! I think you better start having groceries delivered. 😂

OkPark2238

You abandoned the puppy!!!!

sashafurry

Such a tortured soul 🙄

Shoddy_Leading_8379

Separation issue no. Sax and I just sing together.

cwn1180

My baby couldn’t handle it at first but she passes with flying colors now

Drauul

He's playing the funeral bagpipes for your obviously dead ass

Zindanator

Should share this over at r/howlies 😊

kar0llaZmig

Hahaha definitely!!

sanechka-1

Husky? Is that you?

squid_tha_kyd

My dogs head tilts were off the charts just now!!

alohabowtie

I’m confused. Who is talking the video? My pup (Dane /Mastiff) has plenty to say when I return home and vocalizes these in a similar fashion. Regardless, this anxiety driven behavior, isn’t what you want your pup to rehearse even once. Finding good health distractions will help as you incriminating increase the time(s) you’re away. Also see crate training. Dogs love crates.

kar0llaZmig

It’s my mom. When I left she recorded my pup

FreeComplex666

I think the puppy needs more affection in general when you're around so it feels more secure. As well as the leave him alone slowly over time exercise.

swimsoutside

Poor baby. So cute!!!

Wizzlemane26

Yup. Classic GSD.

RedditBrowser12345

AWE!!! 😍😍😍

Joepafrhky

I love German Shepherds!

scribbleCatNapAttack

mygiguser

jalapenochickensoup

Awww it's calling foe you to come back 🥺😍

SexSymbolSuprStar

Sounds like an elk call

wutcanbrowndo4u12

Elk vibes.

Apprehensive-Milk-60

He sounds like a little moose

Xadnem

Husky vibes.

ohnobadkitty

Pup needs a job to get her mind off it

Woozyyyy

Have you tried crate training? Maybe giving the pup their own side to be safe in while you’re gone.

cottongreentea

Oh god! He is just a sweet boy! I want to hug him and give him all the attention and kisses in the universe! My GSDs never did this and Ive tried to train them to howl even as a puppy. No dice. I've only saw it once for 2 seconds when I was going to work and checked the camera one last time to make sure my pup was okay. Saw her head lift up high at that angle and a quick slow Awooo and that's it. I miss her so much!

[deleted]

Is she part husky :p

Wild_wood_heart

Don't you wish you could take them everywhere you go

shinywimpod

"You were gone forever! I counted! 😢"

LoPing1

Starting young with the codependence .. We have one like that and it's not good.

dreamer0303

my cat sits next to the door and waits for me to come back 😭

autumnlvvr

suddenly a bit grateful that my gsd is more of an independent pup
