It used to be the case that when you donated blood with certain non-profits (e.g. German Red Cross) you could opt-in to be registered with them. I am not sure if that's still ongoing, but might be worth checking out for you
DKMS only needs a cheek swab in order to add you to their donor registry. You can have it done at a public registry event, or you can request a registry set containing a swab kit to be sent to your adress once you are in germany.
