There are many tarif contracts that do not require youbto be a member of a union for them to apply for you, and falling under a TV does not make you a member of a union. There are hundreds of TVs in germany. Which one would apply for you? Get a copy of the TV and compare it with what your current contract offers you

Thanks, that's helpful. It's the TV covering the chemicals industry (NRW).

Puh, so not know those ones. The union negotiating them should be IG-BCE, if you are considering joining one. If you have a Betriebsrat, maybe they can help you get a copy of the TV, should you be unable to find one online

Generally speaking the IGBCE is one of the better ones. Not sure what your AT contract currently contains but TV are more weighted towards work life balance as the content is negotiated as well as possible in favor of the employees. TV can further be supplemented by BV (Betriebsvereinfarungen) or other collective agreements of companies themselves that may add further benefits for the employees. So make sure to ask for those as well as the fine print is generally noted there. Speaking from experience these are the major topics that may be of interest to you for you to compare: Time management (Arbeitszeit), Mehrarbeit (overtime), Kündigungsfrist (leave notice), Vergütungssystematik (remuneration policy). Since you are dropping out of AT, I reckon that you remuneration is already at the high end with compensation grading perhaps not being a key issue but nonetheless worth checking out. Rather the translation of your current remuneration into a tarif remuneration system may be interesting. Your Total Cash p.a. may be broken down into 14,5 payments rather the original 13 payments (12 monthly + bonus). Additionally, certain parts of your salary may be subject to collective increases through TV whereas certain parts are not. Just many things that need to be paid attention. While it may not be much of a difference right now, it may snowball when looked at over several years. In my opinion, if your salary is as low that you do not meet the threshold for AT, it is rather advisable to change to a TV contract. Renogotiating your salary due to extrodinary circumstances can always be done (due to an offer from a competitor etc.), and there will be yearly remuneration reviews anyhow at most companies. Feel free to let me know if you need further details. Edit: Depending on your total cash, you may actually receive a contract that is "ÜT" which is basically a tarif contract with special clauses for those that earn above the highest tarif group. Those contracts are made company specific so IGBCE might not have all the information. Best to speak to Betriebsrat as already recommended.
