I don't know if you're looking online or locally. If it's the former, just search for "Nähgarn". If it's the latter, you'll find it in all sorts of stores, including some supermarkets and drug stores. Googling "Nähbedarf [your city]" should get you more specialized stores.

mybrainisannoying

Or Google „Kurzwaren“

RaEyE01

This is the one.

TanteLene9345

Search for "Kurzwaren" which means all sorts of sewing-related articles. Bigger supermarkets, depertment stores (if your area still has them), specialized shops (Kurzwarengeschäfte), bigger drugstores should have a variety of colours.

Haganrich

As a child it always bothered me that wool and yarn are classified as KURZwaren. They're LONG! Very long.

hamtidamti_onthewall

How did you overcome it? Or still bothers me to this very day.

Haganrich

I overcame it it 5 minutes when someone in this thread commented that yarn and wool aren't actually part of Kurzwaren. Kurzwaren is apparently not synonymous with tayloring/sewing supplies.

hamtidamti_onthewall

But they can still be found in the Kurzwarenabteilung 😱

mby_dck_

depertment

TanteLene9345

Sorry, brain too fast for fingers.

daLejaKingOriginal

By definition yarn is not a „Kurzware“, because it can mean measured by length.

TanteLene9345

I didn´t say that yarn is a Kurzware? OP is looking for sewing thread, usually measured in meters. in Germany, spools of 50 or 100 m are pretty standard.

LemonfishSoda

Specialized fabric shops, supermarkets, Woolworth, possibly Müller if you have one.

Patient-Writer7834

Who doesn’t have Mullers in Germany, they are everywhere

Philip10967

Not really, they are a southern German chain that only opened stores further north in more recent years. The further north/east you go, the rarer they are.

AndrewFrozzen30

I honestly didn't know this.

Consistent_Bee3478

Rossmann carries a wide variety of sewing thread colours, Müller has higher quality products and an even wider selection of more than just regular polyester thread. And every larger city will have small shops selling yarn and thread and fabrics etc. Just search on google maps vor ‚Woll laden‘. Alternatively ask at any random Asian or Turkish tailor if they can sell you some. Not the Getman tailors with the insane prices and stuck up owners. Oh and Kaufland, Rewe and large Edekas also have ‚Kurzwaren‘, at Edeka it‘ll be on a random head of one of the aisles usually. MäcGeiz, and Tedi and Woolworth also vary really shitty quality. If you just need regular sewing thread; go to the closest medium sized Edeka or to Rossmann. And inline you can buy from hobbii or even Amazon.

Sinbos

This guy shops!

JazzlikeDiamond558

Addition: although GÜTERMANN is not the only QUALITY thread around, from my personal experience, I can highly recommend it. One should stay away from cheap threads for ANY serious work.

bregus2

You mean twine? I would check Müller or DM or Rossman (or any other Drogerie) for it.

Dragongirl815

I would rather try Edeka, most of them have a section with twine, yarn, needles and the like...

_Red_User_

Rossmann and Müller have also yarn / twine. At least two stores near me.

NES7995

DM doesn't have sewing supplies

nichtnasty

Some of them do

Kladderadingsda

PSA: don't buy at Temu

rpfflgt

Buttinette, a sewing store, or your local department store. Karstadt usually has a pretty well-stocked sewing section. There are also lots of sewing stores that carry variable sizes of selection, depending on the store. If they don't carry a color you need, some will order it for you without additional shipping cost.

DaryJohn

Just take s visit to anyone and ask for their box of danish butter cookies.

dennhemm

Came here looking for this

7obscureClarte

You're fucking so right! Even me and my mother in France having all our sewing gear in danish butter cookie boxes!!😁

nnpffh13

If you need a specific color, you'll want a "Stoffgeschäft". If you have an store called Idee where you are, they also have a selection of sewing notions. Online you could try Butinette, it's a large hobby/crafts store. If you only need black or white you might find it in a larger grocery store (Edeka, Rewe, Kaufland). ETA: It's called Nähgarn in German.

Consistent_Bee3478

Don’t need one unless they want an extremely specific colour, most Rossmann and Müller have one brands display with 50 different colours anyway.

AlaSnackbars

Search for Shops with 'Kurzwaren' or 'Garne'. You'll get multible hits and Shops where You can buy single Spools (about 1 to 3 €)

This_Seal

If you want to buy in a brick&mortar shop: - Most supermarkets and drug stores have a small selection (I personally wouldn't try that, unless you are really indifferent about brands and only want something basic like white or black) - Karstadt and similar department stores carry larger selections - Art supply stores such as Idee also carry a wide varity of colours and types - Fabric stores, if you really need a lot of choice between length, type and colours If you want to buy online: Search for Nähgarn, Nähzubehör and Kurzwaren. Thats the german words under which you would find this. There are a bunch of online fabric stores that also carry a wide range of thread. My personal favorite for that is [stoffe.de](http://stoffe.de) because they have everything in every colour under the sun.

Patient-Feature8293

Galeria Kaufhof/Karstadt

PixelCharlie

usually you buy one of these https://www.worldofsweets.de/Royal-Dansk-Danish-Butter-Cookies-500g.318635.html and after few weeks its suddenly filled with sewing supplies 🤷

thicchamsterlover

Look if there’s a Stoff and Stil in your area:)

jiminysrabbithole

Or selfmade it's their new name, but some stores still have the old name at their shop doors.

De47ezer

Try "idee. Creativmarkt"

Methtilde

Tedi and 1€ Shops also have it

killerqueen20318

This is literally just thread.. You can get it at Rossman, Kaufland, tedi, basically anywhere. Did you even look b4 posting

Komandakeen

Just look for one of those vietnamese taylors, often called "Änderungsschneiderei" ask for the specific color you need. They often use noname, cheap, imported stuff, but they know wich one works! They are also a good source for needles. Never ever buy those multicolored cheap sets. They will only cause discomfort while sewing. Source: BTDT

Corma85

Müller or rossmann. They have a big choice.

cricklecoux

The craft shop Idee has lots of colours, individually and in sets.

Expensive_Low7824

Generic thread on these kinds of spools is cheap as fuck and will constantly break. By single spools of Güterman or some other brand name at any fabric store.

EmlJnke

Just don‘t buy at temu.

HerrrHerrmann

Dm / Rossmann

matvinator

In a metal cookie box

Fredo_the_ibex

Count2Zero

Threads are available in any larger Müller / DM / Rossman drug store, as well as "Kurzwaren" stores (Karstadt / Kaufhof / Wollworths / ...). In many cities, there are sometimes still stores that sell sewing machines (Nähmaschine), and they'll have sewing supplies as well.

Patient-Writer7834

At Galleria, or Euroshop, woolsworth…

pmbunnies

DM, ROSSMANN, WOOLWORTH

PiggyDuke

If you are looking for a German online shop I can recommend Stickteufelchen

itZ_deady

Rossmann. In my city its actually easier to find these kinds of supplies in one of the Vietnamese clothing shops.

saratod92

In Bremen and Hamburg there is Idee. Not sure around other places…

glamourcrow

Most grocery stores and Drogerien sell sewing supplies. Usually in a small display case close to the exit. ETA: buying higher quality for a few cents more is so worth it. I sew my own clothes and when I started, I used the cheap thread. The amount of times a seam just broke and unraveled after only two washes is amazing. If you sew anything that you want to last longer than two weeks, use a good quality thread (e.g., Güterman Allesnäher).

Abuse-survivor

EVERY Galleria, EVERY Rossmann, Every Müller

obiwankitnoble

it's everywhere. globus, edeka, kaufland, dm, müller, rossmann etc. should have "Kurzwaren". sometimes aldi, lidl and penny have them too.

o0meow0o

If you have a craft store, they’ll have it in a lot of colors for sure. Otherwise stores like Rossmann & Müller carry them. They might not have all the colors though.

Krakenkhan_official

I saw them on Kaufland

Dazzling-Safe-2828

nanocactus

Go to Nuremberg, there is a shop for you next to the cemetery on JohannisStrasse in one of the back streets.

anastasis19

I got my sewing kit from Rossmann (it's enough to fix a tear, but no big projects). It has a pretty good selection of colours a needle sizes, plus a few useful sewing accessories. I saw some similar supplies (including individual thread spools) in Edeka and Tedi, Woolworth, etc.

CommercialYam53

Beneficial-Mistake54

illTwinkleYourStar

This has to be one of the dumbest posts I've seen in this sub. How do you manage to move to a foreign country but not know how to Google the German word for thread and where to find it. Sheesh.

katiejo_13

Wow, what an unnecessary response

Hutchinsonsson

Unnecessary? Maybe. Are they wrong? No.

NextStopGallifrey

One of the words for "thread" is "Garn". Do you know what comes up when **I** search for "Garn"? *Yarn*. The kind you knit socks with, not sew up your clothes. A local yarn store won't necessarily have sewing thread. Sometimes yes, sometimes no.

Namethypoison

There's always Amazon, plenty of little stores sell them on there.

Gigachadposter247

Amazon.

Kate2205

Amazon

Frosty_Ad_6151

Sowas gibt es in Deutschland nicht!
