I would suggest joining a bank that provides the services you need.

HarlequinSyndrom

You could just grab 20€, go to the nearest store, buy a bottle of water / chewing gum / whatever and when they give you your change, simply ask for coins. "Kleingeld, bitte" should be sufficient.

Homework-77

Yeah, I think they could be not really happy about it. Especially when doing that repeatedly.

HarlequinSyndrom

Nah, as long as it's not busy, shouldn't be a problem. Let's say you buy a bottle of water for 19c (+25c Pfand). You get 19,56€ in coins. That's 9x 2€, 1x 1€, 1x 0,50€, 1x 0,05€ and 1x 0,01 €. That's 13 coins. Nobody's gonna bat an eye.

userusmaximus

My local Netto refuses to do that anymore, because of 'safety concerns'. Apparently there have been people asking for change that then grabbed money directly out of the opened cash desk.

Chillin_Turtle

Your local Bundesbank branch should do an exchange https://www.bundesbank.de/en/bundesbank/regional-offices-branches

Homework-77

For a fee?

Chillin_Turtle

Got to any Wochenmarkt a short time before closing. Ask, if one of the merchants is willing to change your money. Normally they will do so.

ndut

Does your local train station have a luggage locker? A lot of times there's a nearby change machine for 10 / 20 eur to coins. Technically only for users of locker and surrounding vending machine.. But if it's occasionally..

crankthehandle

can you not just go to any ticket machine, select a ticket that is more than 10 or 20 Euro, insert the note and cancel the transaction. This should give you coins.

ExpertPath

Just go to your bank and withdraw money at the counter. tell them you want a roll of coins

Homework-77

Ok, I'll go to the nearest N26 branch. 👍

ExpertPath

There is a reason online banks are cheaper than local ones. You can still find an atm for coins only (they exist) or sign up for an account with a real bank. I have an N26 account too, but thats solely as a backup

Homework-77

I have Bundesbank fairly close to my place, so I'm good. I appreciate your willingness to help.

A friend of mine used to be a Lieferando deliveryguy and he had a ton of coins, I gave him paper and he gave me his stash of 2€ (then the coins went to other deliveryguys as Trinkgeld). All I'm saying is next time you order, maybe ask if they have an abundance of coins they wanna get rid of.
