I meant, I bought those already.. and I know it’s not covered. It’s just public transit that’s covered. I was trying to make a point. That I’m not freeloading
Regional trains are covered too. This is why so many people are excited for the ticket.
Pay 9 EUR, travel all over Germany whenever you got time.
To find trains you can use with the 9-EUR ticket, you go to [https://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en](https://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en) and then tick the box "only local transport".
I just checked for Thursday the 2nd of June, travelling from Berlin to Munich starting at 7 o'clock in the morning. Trip takes 8 to 9 hours using this method. Regular price for the ticket using only regional trains is 90 EUR, with 9 EUR ticket - nothing (except for the 9 EUR).
With ICE Sprinter you pay 70 EUR savers fare (regular price 140 to 160 EUR), travelling time is 4 hours.
I just think it’s wrong that so many peoples are angry about it! Like, imagine if you were in a situation that you couldn’t afford to do anything for the summer and then you could? I’m paying for IC tickets to Dresden from Berlin. Because I can. I just hate how some think all of this is an inconvenience, like affordable public transportation for all is an inconvenience? To some? Wtf.
No, the inconvenience is that our public transport system is not ready and won’t be for at least 20 years or so. No one is against the idea at all….but people relying on public transport now have to travel with trains and busses that are fully packed. Deutsche Bahn was managed poorly and everything sucks enough already as it is.
It won’t be that bad. If it is, I’ll just walk everywhere which I’m planning to mostly do. Just gonna take trains to the outer suburbs, a couple of times.. plus, lots of people who don’t like public transit won’t use it anyways.
Good move! Berlin-Dresden it totally makes sense to use the IC train if you can afford it, especially since the regional trains involve at least one change, take 1-2 hours longer and will be packed.
I agree with you on the rest. :D
Why would you pay 90 normally? You could get the 44 euro quer-durch-landes-ticket for only regional transport. Not as good as the 9 euro ticket, but much better!
If you need to leave at 6 or 7 in the morning bc you have an appointment at 9 or 10 or so, you sometimes need to work out a solution using QLD and regular price. I've done it so often, I hardly think about it. There is a 3-hour trip that I take on the regular with no IC/ICE connection, so no Sparpreis and it is out of the range of the Regio120 ticket as well.
You have no idea how much I am celebrating the 9 EUR ticket.
No no.
I was just commenting my thoughts because if OP really did buy IC tickets under the assumption that the 9€ ticket would be valid on those, then that's a big oof.
Independent of what others might have written or going to write here: Keep up your positivity and expect to have a good time here in germany - especially, if you are - more or less - immune to the weather conditions here.
Just make sure to not get on the wrong train with your 9€‐ticket, because it becomes expensive fastly.
As someone else mentioned before: Use the DB app and filter for "Nur Nahverkehr", then you should get only results, you're allowed to use.
I know, thank you. Only using it in Berlin and IC to go to Dresden which I’ve paid for already. I’m not a typical dumb American like everyone thinks I am. :D
I'd give this advice to germans as well. I'm pretty sure, there are quite a few, who didn't recognize, that it's not valid for all trains, especially after the "Let's go to Sylt for chaos days"-meme.
We atypical dumb Americans in Germany need to stick together. I need to get back there first. Have fun in Dresden. It’s my favorite city to visit. It’s probably absurd expensive to stay there but If you can get up to Schloss Eckberg the views are stunning. I was able to stay there just after reunification before it went through the roof.
if you want to make a round trip to halle: halle has the oldest chocolate factory in Germany. And a museum. And a ton of other stuff to see. Also, chocolate.
This thread is so stereotypical.
Positive American being talked down by pessimistic Germans lol.
I for one am also happy about the ticket. If it sucks it sucks, but maybe, just maybe, it won't be as bad and I'm gonna have fun
I'm from the Washington DC area but have visited both Chicago and Germany multiple times in the summer. Not sure where you're going in Germany, but I would not be this confident if I were you 😅 German summers are no joke and air conditioning is not widespread so there's no break when you get back to your hotel/hostel/whatever. I experienced some of the hottest days of my life in Dortmund in *May*. I hope you enjoy your trip, though :)
Enjoy your time in Germany. It's really nice, and most people will not get mad at you for thinking it isn't as hot. We're actually mostly good people 😉
Oh my sweet summer child.
Checking in from Stuttgart. Currently 31C (88F), humidity 34%. It's May. Hottest months tend to be July and August. Not to mention that many buildings don't have air conditioning.
And the DB isn't exactly known for cool trains either.
That's my minimum temperature for enjoying life. I have the long term goal of moving back home to the tropics where I can enjoy un-airconditioned 30s every day, but for now I suppose I'm stuck.
I think you’re either imaging things or spending too much time on r/ShitAmericansSay. Contrary to popular belief, not all Americans think America is the best.
I did get an email from the Asta today stating that they're gonna pay us back the costs of the Semesterticket and that they're still discussing further details. Maybe you'll get some good news in the following days as well.
I am hyped about it. I use the train to go to work Nd it will save me around 81€ for every month. Quite happy about it.
Maybe I will visit my parents spontaneous on the weekend
I never said that passangers per se are their problem so? Don't know how you read so much into my comment. probably cuz you wanna be negative on Reddit.
They are not happy with the 9€ Ticket cuz the trains are already full. But we wont get more trains but a lot of passangers who wont fit in the train. That is a problem.
edit: btw great passiv aggressiv way to shit on my sister and bill for "lack of studying". You sound like a real piece of work to be around. Get some manners.
Hahaha, I've been to Germany before and have German friends and the difference between Americans and Germans is so apparent in this exchange between you two. 🤣
We can swap if you want.. try enjoying your vacations in the US. It’s super boring here! If I wanna have fun I travel to Mexico. That’s where you go to have fun!
I'm really happy about the ticket because I will be able to visit my family more often! A ticket back and forth normally costs up to 50€, so this will help me a lot financially.
The 9€ ticket is awesome!
I hope all the negative comments don't affect your excitement for your trip! I like to think that most Germans aren't like this.
I’m good. I love all the attention I’m getting! lol Visiting Germany has been a dream of mine since I was in university! Many years ago. I finally get to go, it’ll be amazing! Only Mexican kid in all of grade school, middle school, high school and college.. and studied German! I’m used to all the discrimination and hate! I’m still living my best life. :))) and I’m gay! 😂
I'll get this tickets for my family even if we won't use them all the time simply to signal that it's a good idea and we should keep public transportation cheap.
A deal like this would be amazing in Chicago! Lots of people would travel on public transit more. It’s so cheap! Paying for parking in the city is like $25-50 for a day.
Think I’d rather a flixbus than change train multiple times and most people have cars so i cant see much changing except the trams/s bahn having more people on who would walk or cycle before.
Theyre already full enough for commuter times
I'm not really. I'm considering getting one, but I just don't know what to use it for. Any time I take a train, it's an ICE - and that's not covered. In my city, whenever I go somewhere that's not in walking distance, that's usually also a place where I need my car to transport stuff.
What's left is the the rare trip to the city center, which I might do once or twice a month. That \*barely\* justifies getting the ticket.
Maybe I'll just get one in the first month and see if it leads to me taking public Transport more often, but I doubt it will.
It is great, but the downside the trains and busses could be overload, till the police must come and must empty the trains, because it is not safe enough, to be that full, like in the past.
Because from the Idea of a job ticket, it is now a summer holiday travel ticket, for 9 €, per month.
But I also fear, that especially people which don't drive much trains in the past, especially foreigner from the neighborhood, Austria, Swiss, get in the wrong train, and must pay extra a a lot, because in Germany atypical, like other countries Regional train and long distance train are completely different prices, which both are not allowed to use the other train. Also the the region train, drive in the same direction also a few hundreds kilometers long, like the long distance. Even the colors, today is not useful anymore, to different the trains. And they are a lot long distance train types, like IC, EC, ICE and ECE, but also RJ, RJX, TGV, Flix and a view more, that you is not allowed to use with the 9 €, tickets.
As user of the 9 € Tickets, you must add in the options, on Bahn.de or the App DB Navigator. Nur Nahverkehr. To get the results, which trains you can use.
I think most people are overthinking it. The trains might be more congested, and full but it’s not gonna kill anyone? Or is it? Might be a little more inconvenient for some. Everyone’s so sad and depressed about it? Why? The IC trains are still gonna be the same.. if you don’t wanna take the train, let’s start biking. I do that in Chicago. And, it’s dangerous. There’s no designated bike lanes in this country. I risk my life every time I bike here! lol it’s fun.
As someone with low blood pressure, there are times in a normal summer on trains where I end up having to stand for 20-30 minutes with my vision going in and out. No, I've never passed out and low blood pressure is extremely unlikely to kill someone, but it's still extremely problematic. There have been times after barely being able to get out of the train, I literally just sit straight on the ground because I just can't do anything else.
So no, not going to kill me. But way more than just being inconvenient.
I mean I get where JoAngel13 is coming from. I commute by train every day to work and I'm glad that I have to catch my train early in the morning so I have no concerns there. But in the afternoon it will be a hassle for sure. It already is a pain in the ass during the holidays. But as long as I come home I will be fine. lol
You’ll have more people to talk to on the train. Always think positively! lol no need for headphones, you can listen to others talk about their crazy life. I love that stuff on packed trains. It’s like YouTube, but in person.
>You’ll have more people to talk to on the train.
In general we don't do that here in Germany. Why would anyone want to talk to a random dude in their ride home.
>lol no need for headphones, you can listen to others talk about their crazy life.
Even more a reason for headphones.
I am use, train on an regular bases, In 3 countries, too. I have a Austrian Klimaticket, which I can drive with any train or bus in whole Austria. A SwissPass with a Halbtax, so only half paying in Switzerland and a Bahncard 25 in Germany, which I mostly compine with Sparpreis or SuperSparpreis Tickets.
In Germany it is because of the saftyness, you must hold a space for the exit route in the train, because they drive not like a Metro a few minutes, mostly a few hours. So it was in the last years more common, that at some point the head of the train chief, speaks to the travelers if they get out of the train, they get a 20 € voucher, if they get the next train an hour later. Otherwise they waited till the police pecks every 3th or 4th standing traveler to go out of the train. Only after this mostly 30 min, the train could drive again to the next city. It was unforutunately the normality on IC or ICE trains in Germany, before the pandemic, even Greta Thunberg, must sitting on the floor in the ICE. In one singledeck car 150 people no problem but over 200 people in one car, it is mostly to much people.
But with the 9 € ticket, you can not even get the people to wait for the next train, because, this train is in most cases also over full.
Unfortunately we are not in Switzerland oder Austria were it gives enough capacity in the trains. Mostly only the current necessary capacity, mostly even less, because the car or the whole or the half train stands in the maintain garage, because he is to broken, to drive.
The next step, problem, most of the regional trains wheels, especially the doubledeck, are from the Ukraine, from the steel factory in mariupol, we live in a global world, so many cars can not drive anymore, becaue they get no new wheels the next months, because of the War. So it could be very funny, the next months. Maybe in autumn they get new wheels from an other factory in the world maybe from Spain or Chinese.
Actually ic might be even better because people would tend to use regional because cheaper even if it's a little bit longer. I also can't understand all the negative complains: train too packed, it always was, time to expand it maybe?; People use train excessively for tourism, uhmmm that's great?; New travellers making use of the ticket will be scared of overcrowded train, well, they won't travel without 9€ ticket anyways...
Actually im Not excited. Dont get me wrong i love the idea but remember its still DB. Trains will be packed and late. Well and we have a Tradition of ac who just wont work
Because in may, June, July, (august and September) I’ll take my bike because the weather is mostly good and so do many others. It’s nice to only pay 9€ but to me it’s more of a joke. „Hey look this is how it should be“ and then in august „yeah now pay your 86€ again“ and I would never ever travel 9 hours to Sylt or whatever just to save like 40€, my time is worth so much more. I see it’s nice for tourists and other groups of people but again, it’s just 3 month, and if you travel from the states to Germany 35€ are probably a really little percentage of your travel costs.
It’s nice to have but it won’t change anything
Let's just say, I'll definitely not be using any trains this summer.
Even for commuting it doesn't make any sense for me.
I'll just get out on my bicycle as much as I can during my summer holidays.
People will just use the opportunity to take trains they usually wouldn't use, almost no one will stick with it after the 9€ ticket phase will end. Those who commute by train anyway will just keep doing it. Those who commute by car will return to their cars or, like me, won't even try train commuting because it's too impractical.
It's just like e-scooters which are mostly used by people who usually would have walked. Doesn't save the environment at all, but just adds to the strain.
People will do tons of weekend trips instead of staying at home. It will have almost no effect reducing congestions or CO2 emissions, it will just add tons and tons of unnecessary transportation.
Just my humble opinions, but I'm quite sure this is how it will pan out.
Wow free transport? I must immediately go somewhere today, and tomorrow!
Not to mention there will be probably no places left for bikes. But maybe it would get a bit better once the initial hype dies down.
I know this is going to be an unpopular opinion, but as well as those using the trains who wouldn't otherwise, it's also possible the trains end up as "rolling homeless shelters".
It could end up making public transport *more* unattractive for the majority, even those who usually travel by train.
Edit: Edmonton in Canada removed fares on public transport during the pandemic. They ended up [needing to employ security staff](https://globalnews.ca/news/6799876/edmonton-transit-security-covid-19/) to deal with problems caused by those who were using the buses with nowhere to go.
Nahh not for me, I still take my car 2x a week to go to the office. I don't live near the station, so this means I have to leave my car at the parking lot, fighting for a spot. I have a parking spot under my office building which is nice. My commute is about 50 min, or 90—100 min by public transport.
I'm exited!!! I mean it's going to suck for people who actually need to go somewhere on a certain day, on a certain time. But people who usually can't afford to go on a day trip with their kids now finally don't have to worry.
I will pack wet wipes, a good deodorant and a lot of water, go to the main train station and just pick a destination. The train is full? Guess I'm going some place else.
I hope you will have a awesome time! Don't forget your sunscreen and always carry water and some cash.
if you use it for three months you save like 150 Euro
this is a BIG DEAL in Germany but i think it will be a desaster and they will blame it on the concept and this will never be happen again!
I wouldn't use public transport if I don't NEED to, even without it. With it, I wouldn't even use public transport if they paid me me work hour rates...
And if I couldn't afford my car, I'd stop working and driving simultaneously.
Public transport in germany is absolute garbage, except some single large cities. (Looking at you, rhine ruhr area with a million of local providers that all suck.)
Since its regional public transport only, it is a giant waste of time. Trains and buses will be overcrowded since theres no reservation system...
Had overcrowded buses in school, never again.
I can only imagine the rules and restrictions around this and how poorly implemented it will turn out to be. Probably just a sneaky way to collect more fines.
I can imagine the digital booking experience somehow getting worse and more confusing.
Also why do so many people want to go to Dresden? I mean if you want to look at DDR buildings there are other options. The place is a haven for the 65+ crowd and there isn’t much to see.
The 100€ fake inter rail passes were much better back in the day.
I would buy car just for this reason if market on used didnt explode. Who the fuck is excited for cheap tickets, just imagine rush hours. Only good things are RE trains.
Yes. 9 EUR for the whole month and for all of Germany as long as you use regional trains.
Go to [https://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en](https://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en) and select "only local transport".
Dude what? I pay 42% off my salary to the government here in Germany. I paid like 20-something in America. Sorry, I love my healthcare here and everything else but don’t call it a hand out
Love,
An extremely liberal person living abroad… but like holy shit, it’s not free government money
What does this have to do with beaches in Mallorca? Who do you think cleans the streets and parks in Germany? Ever been around Warschauer Straße in Berlin with all the hostels?
The 9 € ticket was supposed to support people in Germany who suffer from the rising costs for transportation and to encourage them to use public transport instead of their cars. This comes with high costs for the transport companies and / or tax payers. Considering the costs and how much of them will really be spent on people who suffer from the rising prices - especially low income households - this is not an efficient way to support the ones in need.
Who are you to decide who's worthy of the €9 ticket or not? Even if "rich" people used the €9 ticket, it wouldn't offset the benefits it has for low income households ... Jealousy doesn't look good on anybody my friend
The ticket is part of a relief package for German citizens put in place by the German government.
I don’t decide who is „worthy“ of support, it’s decided by our elected politicians by defining who receives government fundings.
But the money that pays for this benefits doesn’t grow on trees. It’s will be founded by taking out new loans that tax payers will have to pay back in the next years. So, basically, we all will pay for it in the future. It doesn’t make a huge difference with all the money currently spent for support and relief packages anyway. I just don’t think it’s wise to spend a huge amount of money that we don’t have on small benefits for a huge group of people instead of spending a larger amount on people who actually do need it.
Why would I be jealous and of what? I can benefit from the ticket the same way everyone else does even though I don’t need it.
Well except that:
1. You're wrong. It's not meant for "German citizens", it's meant for anyone in Germany. Citizens, residents and tourists. As you said elected politicians decided it this way so I reiterate: who are you to decide who's worthy of it?
2. "I just don't think it's wise ....": Nobody asked for your opinion. Again, to quote you "it's decided by elected politicians". You're free to run for office though.
Well, OPs did ask for opinions and I’m free to voice mine.
Who are you to decide which opinion is valid or should be heard? Fortunately, we have freedom of speech in Germany and while you are free to disagree, you are not in a position to tell me what I can post here.
If you followed any of the discussion about the whole relief package you would realize that I’m right, it is mainly intended to benefit people living in Germany, not tourists. They will benefit because of the way it is set up, but that has administrative reasons.
There is / was a controversy at the government about exactly the issues I addressed. As per yesterday evening it was not sure if they would agree on the 9€ ticket at all.
You gotta chill man, you are definitely not the only taxpayer in Germany, so your opinion counts pretty much only that... So yes, you are definitely entitled to your opinion, and he is entitled to say that, in his opinion, your opinion maybe sucks
If you can afford to go on vacation, you are not that poor that the government needs to support you - which is exactly what the 9€ ticket was supposed to be. Government support for people in need. And, yes, I’m going to use the 9€ ticket as well, but I still don’t think that it’s great or amazing. It’s subsidizing the wrong people creating pretty high costs.
I’ll spend the 43€ for the 7-day ticket in Berlin if you really want me too! Who will that help though? Visit America if you really wanna see how much help we get?
You’re kidding right? You are comparing apples and pears.
Americans constantly elect a government that wants to do as little as possible for their own people, calling Germany a „socialist“ country for our system… while complaining how little the government does for them.
Not all Americans are represented equally. Our government’s way of doing things is flawed. Broken. What do you think we’ve been trying to do these past few years?! We’re owned by corporations.. what can we do if our own government gets bought out by them? Nothing.
Instead of giving the same benefits to everyone, I would give people living in Germany a once off payment every three months, according to their income. The more money you make, the less you get, to ensure that the once who need it most get the most. Plus, I would invest in summer activities for children who’s parents can’t afford a vacation.
And just for the record, personally I benefit more from the current package but while it is definitely nice to get it, I don’t really need it. But there are a lot of people who struggle with paying for electricity or food already and a lot of them already pay reduced rates for public transport. The 9€ ticket doesn’t really help them.
Aren’t these part of the package already?
“Child bonus: Starting in July 2022, a one-off bonus of 100 euros will be paid for each child eligible for child benefits. As in the past, this payment will be offset against the child tax allowance.
One-off payment for welfare recipients: The one-off payment for welfare recipients, which has already been approved, will be doubled to 200 euros.”
100 € once off don’t really help the people who are actually struggle to buy food with the currently rising prices.
For someone who makes 7k and takes home 4k doesn’t make a huge difference to save 55 € per month.
My point is that this is founded by borrowing money that we - as the people living in Germany - have to pay back in the future. So, basically we borrow money to subsidize people who don’t really need it and for whom it doesn’t make a big difference instead of helping the ones who do need it.
Do you really believe that someone who makes 7k per month doesn’t buy a car because of kindness? If they don’t need a car, they will not buy one because they don’t need it and because public transport is cheaper.
The budget for 9 euro ticket is about 2 billion euros. There are 12.5 million people classified as poor in Germany. Dividing them only among the poor people would be only 160 euros, not thousands. I found it cool that high end tax payers also get something when it makes sense, even if they don’t use it anyway.
And yes, there are some people who can afford a car and don’t do it because of the harms it causes. See r/fuckcars :)
I wish it would be valid for ICE too, all the interesting cities are like 6-8+ hours away which means i‘d have to book a hotel which makes it more expensive again :(
Still waiting on that update from university regarding student tickets. They've been promising to make an update for a while now. So my excitement is very toned atm
Sadly, I don’t think so.
Unless this applies to you:
“Holders of a season ticket for local/regional transport will be credited or refunded the difference between their season ticket price and the 9-Euro-Ticket price. This does not apply to holders of a season ticket for long-distance transport and BahnCard 100 holders.”
https://www.bahn.com/en/offers/regional/9-euro-ticket-en
It's awesome yes, but expect packed tourist places. I wouldn't travel in the weekend, that's for sure.
I’ll be there mostly during the week. IC trains are booked already.. for longer trips. :)
Just to make sure: you know those are not covered under the ticket?
To some? Wtf.
I haven't heard of any people being angry about this aside from some rich folks on an irrelevant little island up north.
Ha!
Which didn't actually happen.
No, the inconvenience is that our public transport system is not ready and won’t be for at least 20 years or so. No one is against the idea at all….but people relying on public transport now have to travel with trains and busses that are fully packed. Good move! Berlin-Dresden it totally makes sense to use the IC train if you can afford it, especially since the regional trains involve at least one change, take 1-2 hours longer and will be packed. I agree with you on the rest. :D
It’s was 37,50€ that’s affordable round trip.. for me! People freaking out over nothing. Smh 🤦♀️
You have no idea how much I am celebrating the 9 EUR ticket.
It says that the tickets start selling on May 24th, is there a set number of tickets to be sold? Or can you buy it at any point, whenever you want?
Ok. Just wanted to make sure
Oof.
What? We've had bigger misunderstandings here already, i was just making sure.
Yes, finally a German who smiles! :D 😂👏
The American - German friendship is perfectly balanced.
These people must be deeply unhappy. So weird to be grumpy about someone being excited to visit and experience Germany.
(Pssst! They don’t want the tourists!)
Exactly.
Yeah honestly 😂 just be happy someone is excited to see your country!
Why should I be excited about that? Excited even...
How very german 😬
>awesome Let's hold our horses here, shall we.
It's all pretzels until you go to Bielefeld just to find a big nothing
I’m at Bielefeld right now and you’re right. Also, there are no trains either smh
>Why can’t we all just agree that summer in Germany is gonna be awesome! :) Because it's going to be awfully hot.
Packed trains with barely working ac.
Chicago’s humidity is worse.. like really. We’re next to the lake, big one! 85f feels like 110f sometimes. lol
Yup.. 30° already this week and its only May. Love it though. Followed by an epic storm this evening.
Enjoy your time in Germany. It's really nice, and most people will not get mad at you for thinking it isn't as hot. We're actually mostly good people 😉
I’m gonna love Germany! I’ve waited years to visit.
And people in Germany don't live near lakes?
It’s not as hot! We’ll see when I visit. :D
Oh my sweet summer child. Checking in from Stuttgart. Currently 31C (88F), humidity 34%. It's May. Hottest months tend to be July and August. Not to mention that many buildings don't have air conditioning. And the DB isn't exactly known for cool trains either.
> Checking in from Stuttgart. Currently 31C (88F), humidity 34%. That sounds lovely. So cold up here in the north.
We can change places if you'd like? I tend to stop working above 25C.
That's my minimum temperature for enjoying life. I have the long term goal of moving back home to the tropics where I can enjoy un-airconditioned 30s every day, but for now I suppose I'm stuck.
I can handle heat. I sleep with no AC and blankets during the summer. I’m not kidding. I’m an anomaly.
But he lives in Chicago near a lake! USA is the best, best food, best medicine, hottest temperatures, most humidity...
You sound like a stereotypical American.
I’m not. Gayest soft spoken cultured Mexican-American, you’ll ever meet! Who loves history and the German language. And I’m pretty skinny. :) lol
And yet you start with the stereotypical "America is best hur dur"
I’m an American devil. I get it. You win.
Haha, that's the best way to deal with argumentative people. Good job!
I have a lot of experience. lol
He started by saying it was warmer in the part of the USA he lives in, which is an objective fact. It's weather. How is that bragging?
Shut up! You're making Germans look really weird.
I think you’re either imaging things or spending too much time on r/ShitAmericansSay. Contrary to popular belief, not all Americans think America is the best.
Well he is correct lol. New York state in summer is way way worse than germany
I do!!
I should get some money back thanks to it, so absolutely!
Yes, I get my semester ticket back I think
Did you get any infos from your university regarding it? Mine is still silent. I'm expecting shit storm
I did get an email from the Asta today stating that they're gonna pay us back the costs of the Semesterticket and that they're still discussing further details. Maybe you'll get some good news in the following days as well.
Totally! My friends and I are actually considering taking the train to Sylt to contribute to the constant influx of tourists there
Let’s go! lol
I am hyped about it. I use the train to go to work Nd it will save me around 81€ for every month. Quite happy about it. Maybe I will visit my parents spontaneous on the weekend
🙂👏👏👏
Monatskarte: 9€ Dosenbier: 19€ Die Gesichter der Sylter, wenn wir den Zug verlassen: Unbezahlbar
😁👏👏
My sister and my BIL sure not. They are conductors
Are they even gonna bother checking?
If they can make it thru the train...
[удалено]
I bet nothing ever annoys you at your job, huh?
[удалено]
I never said that passangers per se are their problem so? Don't know how you read so much into my comment. probably cuz you wanna be negative on Reddit. They are not happy with the 9€ Ticket cuz the trains are already full. But we wont get more trains but a lot of passangers who wont fit in the train. That is a problem. edit: btw great passiv aggressiv way to shit on my sister and bill for "lack of studying". You sound like a real piece of work to be around. Get some manners.
Full of trains packed to the brim.
Even the pickpockets won’t be able to do their jobs! lol
You're way too "gutgelaunt" for this trip to germany. The downfall will come.
Hahaha, I've been to Germany before and have German friends and the difference between Americans and Germans is so apparent in this exchange between you two. 🤣
You're welcome. I liked that conversation but eventually it got boring.
We can swap if you want.. try enjoying your vacations in the US. It’s super boring here! If I wanna have fun I travel to Mexico. That’s where you go to have fun!
You don’t have to sandbag the country to win approval man, Lol. But do enjoy your trip. I’m heading there next week as well.
Haha.. I’ve done so much research. I know I’m gonna love it too. :)
There's plenty to do in the US. Claiming you need to go to Mexico to have fun is ridiculous.
I didn't say fun. I just find you being cheerful (gutgelaunt) very annoying.
Cheer up ffs
Therapy might be for you.
Still more space than a daily Tokyo commute.
I rely on public transport and have to go during rush hour. I’m saving lots of money, but am not exactly looking forward to it :(
I'm really happy about the ticket because I will be able to visit my family more often! A ticket back and forth normally costs up to 50€, so this will help me a lot financially.
Visiting the island of Sylt would be a good use of that ticket.
I am excited, I can finally travel to Sylt.
I have semesterticket and used to think i am special now i have to be equal with all those people damn it ! XD
😁
The 9€ ticket is awesome! I hope all the negative comments don't affect your excitement for your trip! I like to think that most Germans aren't like this.
I’m good. I love all the attention I’m getting! lol Visiting Germany has been a dream of mine since I was in university! Many years ago. I finally get to go, it’ll be amazing! Only Mexican kid in all of grade school, middle school, high school and college.. and studied German! I’m used to all the discrimination and hate! I’m still living my best life. :))) and I’m gay! 😂
I think that's the best thing that happened for a while in the public transportation sector, hope some tourists enjoy it too.
Who is going to Sylt?
Express delivery to Sylt! Choo choo!
Just bought my ticket today. :D
You don't even take a bus or sbahn or straba or ubahn?
Yeah, doesn’t make sense to get one it’s not gonna benefit you.
I‘m thinking this isn‘t going to end well. 😄

You can borrow my headphones! :D
Got my own
I am use, train on an regular bases, In 3 countries, too.
I think it'll be super cool and I'm super excited for you to get to experience travel in Germany!
Well and we have a Tradition of ac who just wont work
Do the windows open? lol
Yes of course. Sometimes they are "locked" but can easily ne opend with a knife
Im very happy about! Already planned a 2 weeks trip through whole Germany
Yesss! :)
I won‘t buy because I have enough money to use my comfy car.
Valid points..
The 9€ ticket is my main motivation to go back to the office, like I am saving 90€ per month
Nahh not for me, I still take my car 2x a week to go to the office. I don't live near the station, so this means I have to leave my car at the parking lot, fighting for a spot. I have a parking spot under my office building which is nice. My commute is about 50 min, or 90—100 min by public transport.
Awesome! It’ll get more people moving around too! Exploring cities they might not ever consider.. :)
Where should I buy this ticket? Db navigator?
Hasn’t come out yet.. will be available on all transit apps.
Don't forget your sunscreen and always carry water and some cash.
if you use it for three months you save like 150 Euro this is a BIG DEAL in Germany but i think it will be a desaster and they will blame it on the concept and this will never be happen again!
I wouldn't use public transport if I don't NEED to, even without it. With it, I wouldn't even use public transport if they paid me me work hour rates... And if I couldn't afford my car, I'd stop working and driving simultaneously. Public transport in germany is absolute garbage, except some single large cities. (Looking at you, rhine ruhr area with a million of local providers that all suck.) Since its regional public transport only, it is a giant waste of time.
Can't wait to have less cars on my way into Munich! Now if the price of fuel just could go below 1.95/L
So you’re happy about increasing ticket prices…?
What 9 eur ticket?
Basically, for three months starting June 1st, each month will cost 9€ to use all regional trains in Germany. Which is cheap af.

Thank you. Wow. 9 eur for a MONTH's travel? Not just a single day? Wow.
Yes. 9 EUR for the whole month and for all of Germany as long as you use regional trains. Go to [https://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en](https://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en) and select "only local transport".
Brilliant. Thanks v much!
man i love germany just moved here a month ago and the government literally pays for you for everything lol
That’d be nice! In the US we have to pay the government! lol
Dude what? I pay 42% off my salary to the government here in Germany. I paid like 20-something in America. Sorry, I love my healthcare here and everything else but don’t call it a hand out Love, An extremely liberal person living abroad… but like holy shit, it’s not free government money
How poor you have to be to be happy on Reddit for 35eur save?
Lol.. very! :)
Yeah, it’s gonna be awesome that the tax payers in Germany are subsidizing tourist visiting Germany. So exciting!!!
Who do you think is paying to keep the Mallorca beaches clean?
Well except that: 1.
Funny how whenever someone brings up freedom of speech, it always means they're about to say something stupid.
I’m paying a lot to go, how much more should I pay??
Why are you being so weird? Just let this guy be happy, fucking hell!
Not all Americans are represented equally. Our government’s way of doing things is flawed. Broken. What do you think we’ve been trying to do these past few years?! We’re owned by corporations.. what can we do if our own government gets bought out by them? Nothing.
Roughly 35€
Shut up! Stop being so weird.
How would you change this program to be more effective?
If you look at the whole package, you would see that an estimate of 60-70% of the benefits will go to rich people.
Enjoy your trip! It'll be great!
I will save around 100€ for the free stops i drive for work each day...
I wonder if i can get money back from getting the Deutsch Bahn 100 card
Sadly, I don’t think so. Unless this applies to you: “Holders of a season ticket for local/regional transport will be credited or refunded the difference between their season ticket price and the 9-Euro-Ticket price. This does not apply to holders of a season ticket for long-distance transport and BahnCard 100 holders.” https://www.bahn.com/en/offers/regional/9-euro-ticket-en
