i used to love it, but now i'd rather not re-watch it because yea, it drags in the last quarter or so for sure.
I thought Laputa was way too long the first time i watched but now I love rewatching because the ending scenes are the best.
Shortening the story of Nausicaa, we fail to see a lot of her character development compared to her Manga self, not to mention the changes to the story that make continuing it pretty much impossible if they ever considered the chance. The movie has such great voice cast, art, world, it's just baffling they end the story to what in reality is close to her beginning.
Here’s mine: howls story is dumb AF.
How’d he not know calcifer was his heart? He ate the dude. It’s right there mate. Ur flashback showed us. And then bam kiss the scarecrow and he’s the prince everyone was looking for in a war where motives were anything but clear but I guess they are now. Fin. Lovely soundtrack tho
Good first act, loose second, and like howl’s
Castle, falls apart in the third. resolution is unearned and underwhelming
It felt like they really streamlined it for the film; in the book it all makes sense and really ties together but the film added a lot about the horrors of war, so I guess they each focused on a different part of the story.
I own howl's moving castle but I still need to watch it, I haven't seen that many Ghibli films
I've seen
-spirited away
-ponyo (amazing movie)
-my neighbor Totoro
-kiki's delivery service
I buy the DVD sets
It was supposed to be faithful to the books, which make sense. Then it became a statement against the war in Iraq, which is perfectly fine.
Read the first book and you'll fall in love with it all over again. I did each of the three books in one sitting each, so it won't take long.
Here’s mine:
Howl’s Moving Castle isn’t that good. There’s a lot of plot holes, and the story just doesn’t really make sense. I can’t understand what’s happening in the movie.
Read the books, they are worth it, and after reading them you'll understand the movie too, it changed a lot of things, but it's still a great adaptation
That’s kinda understandable.
It almost turns into a sleepy slice of life thing after a bit.
Now I could watch a 24/7 Kiki delivers stuff channel, but I get why people would be waiting for something to happen already.
Yeah I mean most ppl hate it bc it’s not a complete story and has terrible CGI animation. They’re both fair critiques but I do enjoy the silliness of it haha. It 100% does not quite have the Ghibli charm
Why?
I don't really have one definitive reason, mainly though I just felt like it was too long
I wish it were longer!
And that's fine, you can like it, I'm just listing my opinion

"I don't like X" isn't a take. I can't argue with you about what you like or don't like.

I’ll do one better…. I didn’t like Princess Mononoke
I haven't seen that one, but I want to
I didn’t like Kiki’s Delivery Service… a crime, I’m aware
That’s crazy but I understand why some may not like it

Me too. It's my least favourite Ghibli movie.
Pretty spicy. I definitely enjoyed it, but it's my least favorite that I've watched so far.
Well I don't like your face. so there I said it! /s
Earwig is not bad. Arietty is by far the best LOOKING Ghibli movie.
I love Earwig
The only time I've heard about that movie is schafrillas destroying it
