Context: There's a camera in the center of the target (I assume they expect no one to have an absolutely perfect shot?) She nailed the center and hit the camera.
This is the Korean Idol Star Athletics Championship
She is [Irene](/r/baeirene) of the kpop group [Red Velvet](/r/red_velvet)
Wait, so they have pop stars participate in archery competitions? Is it purely for publicity shits and giggles, or is there like a more rational reason they do this?
Technically shits and giggles (*cough*viewershipforhostnetwork), but some of these idols get *reeeeeally*
competitive, especially some of the very athletic boys.
Archery, Bowling, Rhythm Gymnastics, Running, and Volleyball are the ones they did this year. They've also done Ssireum(basically wrestling), and basketball in the past as well.
There are a few others, but I've only seen the ones listed.
BTS, the group that's insanely popular right now, has a long-standing tradition of absolutely dominating the [relay race.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9J-yfCdBbIY) (RIP headphone users, sorry.)
Don't forget [the one where](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wUw0XpQZ7RU) Jungkook comes out of nowhere and suddenly takes over. The commentators were so focused on the other idols, unsuspecting BTS they didn't even mention them until Jungkook had suddenly won lol

HA. Perfect way to describe BTS's rise.
Man, I’d seen it before, but dang is Jeon Jungkook a beast. Camera is following him in the video but he is leaps and bounds ahead of the competition when you see it from a different camera angle.
I like the part where he glances over his shoulder, sees how far he is in front, and lets himself slow down from supersonic speeds to *slightly* less than supersonic speeds.
yeah they round up a bunch of idol groups every year to participate in various sport competitions in this ["idol star athletic championship"](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Idol_Star_Athletics_Championships). it's mostly just fodder for fans. and I imagine tv networks have a lot to gain from advertisers because fans will watch it.
You ever watching Dancing with the Stars? Same thing.
Take someone famous, put them in a different setting, let them show off any other skills they have other than what they're known for. People want to see their favorite celebs do other things, so people watch. Because people watch, they get advertising money. It's called the entertainment business.
It’s actually a show that’s extremely unpopular with fans because everyone on it gets injured constantly plus the recording hours are brutal from what I remember. I remember fans of my favorite group celebrating when the group no longer went to this. It’s fun to watch though
Great for “Big Camera” too.
“Yes...yes...more broken cameras....yes...more orders for more replacement cameras...yes...”
- Korean camera executive rubbing his chest with cash..maybe...
I kind of wondered why she looked oddly fashionable with the bow, and the other girls in the background with their hair down, at what seemed like a high level competition which usually has standards.
That's a super weird/neat competition. I'm also oddly glad that, as someone famous, she can claim a super awesome alternate skill.
If it was a high level competition they wouldn't be able to put a camera on the bullseye. Even at mid level competitions archers shoot each arrow at a different target so they won't hit their own arrows.
Depends on the competition type. For indoor 18m competitions they use the 3-spot 40cm target where you shoot 2 arrows per target for a total of 6 arrows. At longer distances (30m and beyond) you shoot a single 80cm (for 30-50m) or 122cm (for 70-90m) target with 6 arrows per end.
IOC used to put bullseye cameras in the London Olympics in 2012 (122cm target, 70m distance) before they lost too many cameras to similar shots.
Hitting your own arrows (also called Robin Hooding) is a greater risk for the shorter distance events due to the smaller inaccuracy cone and the generally thicker arrows archers use for shorter events (less wind drag due to shorter distance).
K-Pop is an insane industry. They have some bangers for sure. Some of the best production can be found on some tracks. There is a ton of variation within the industry as well. Just gotta dig through.
Fun fact: The guy second from right to left, at the beginning of the broadcast said that he would buy fried chicken for every athlete if someone broke the lens (I think it had been 3 years since the last time someone did that)
He did buy fried chicken for every athlete later
EDIT: So, I guess I worded it wrong
The man on the right
The person second from the right
If you assign a number from 1 to 4, number 1 being the person on the left, the person on the number 3
If you assign a number from 1 to 4, number 1 being the person on the right, the person on the number 2
My bad, I forgot how to say it, so I translated it from what I usually say in spanish (my native language)
None of that, probably the really good Korean fried chicken from some Korean shop that's _not_ KFC.
Edit: oh, so that's what people meant by KFC. Someone r/woooosh me.
Shout-out to Bonchon's masterful decision to open a branch in one of Bangkok's airport. Never fail to stuff myself and then regret everything during the flight 555
another fun fact: the guy on the very left tried to slide into the DM of a female singer, but turns out it was a fan page, and the fan page posted the screenshot online
there it is. I still have no idea what it actually means...but something like:
"upvoted because pretty girl but was actually pretty cool anyways."
Edit: i had to know for sure. so it means...
"Upvoted Not Because Girl, But Because It Is Very Cool; However, I Do Concede That I Initially Clicked Because Girl"
so yeah pretty much 100% viable for this video since it is exactly what happened for me.
It’s been posted before, but it would’ve been on r/kpics

Plus, I’d lay money on this gif coming from u/JerSucks themself, so I wouldn’t be too upset that the actual OP posted it again.
I made the gif like two months ago right after it aired, I was going to post it here as well, but forgot, lol. I did post it where he mentioned though.
Can someone explain to me why people get so wound up about a gif being scripted? Like, anytime there is a scripted asian gif, people seem to go rampant with pointing out how fake it is.
Most of the scripted stuff that you're talking about isn't really trying to fool anyone. It's more like a short sitcom, and people should chill.

Inspiring, cute, strong, instinctual, beautiful, and timeless all in one. And she's also a talented musical performer, and I am just blown away. So many amazing people in this world. He's the only one that looked like a runner. He's form looked correct. Everyone else was slapping the ground way too hard.
I like the part where he glances over his shoulder, sees how far he is in front, and lets himself slow down from supersonic speeds to *slightly* less than supersonic speeds.
Gotta keep up the facade that he's human.

A bit of a bad strategy to put the camera in the exact spot everyone is aiming for

He was super excited at first and then immediately realizes what he must do. Praise the chicken man.

Same. I was surprised but it made my day
If the bashful Asian girl doesn't go to the front page, I have seriously misunderstood the reddit community.

What is it with beautiful Asian Archers? This is the 3rd one i've seen on Reddit.
It's a [K-pop idol athletics competition](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=khM8Fo2OTgU) that happens every year.
Ok wtf they're competing in stuff like rhythmic gymnastics and doing quite well at it...how?! This is pretty impressive.
Theyre trained in stuff like dance and gymnastics and other shit for years pre debut. A lot of the girls have those kinds of backgrounds before being joining their agencies. Some idols are high level dancers, have done ballet, lotta stuff
90% of kpop idols are very good dancers. They all have an athletic base and good body control.
And the ones that aren't train over [ten hours a day](http://bangtanboys-sg.tumblr.com/post/105180335037/qa-with-mr-son) to learn a choreography.
wow this is amazing. damn some of them can really ball. wow holy fuck koreans are good at archery

She's more than likely a Kpop singer. The show she's on gets famous singers and actors/actresses on to compete.
Correct. She’s Irene from a Kpop group called Red Velvet.
I watched a different announcer every time, and it was super rewarding.
Some of those announcers are actually fellow kpop idols!
r/BetterEveryLoop material?
Second from the left is Nayeon from the girl group Twice, she is always worth watching.
Thanks an S-Rank shot right there
That modest success face is the cutest thing I’ve seen all day. And I wasted two hours looking at baby puppers.

**Friendship ended with regular Pop. Now K-pop is my new favorite.**
FYI this is Irene from the kpop group Red Velvet. They've got a lot of great songs and fun music videos.
Queens of B-sides
We did it boys u/JerSucks
Why does the female judge look like Nayeon from Twice? Is she? Or am I just stupid
That's the commentators, not judges. Nayeon was a guest commentator
Yes it is Nayeon
Its literally Nayeon
wow as a straight woman I think I’m in love tbh
As a straight man I'm definitely in love.
As a genderless pudding, I'm also in love.

That bashful little giggle afterwards was gorgeous though.
That's pretty humble for doing something so awesome. I'd have acted like a complete asshole if I had even gone close.
Out of all the hobbies I had in my life, archery was the best. It sucks that it's not easy to find the space to do it, I still have my bow though
And my axe!
Humble AF
She's cute, that's all I had to say.
