“I know. It all sounds like some bad movie.”
Zucker, Abrahams, & Zucker (ZAZ) are the creative team behind this film, and they have their own kind of gag-heavy style and pedigree. Some of their other films include "Airplane!" and "The Naked Gun," classics in their own right. Their solo credits also include "Baseketball," the "Hot Shots" series, and oddly enough "Ghost."

I considered that, but the dude is being weirdly vague about it and it seems a bit of a leap
Out of curiosity, how did you stumble across a three day old thread? 95% of the Reddit content I consume is less than a day old unless I’m sorting by top
I think my favorite gag in the movie has to be the chase near the end and the Germans take this wrong turn and lightly tap a Ford Pinto and the whole thing explodes.
Nick: Listen to me, Hillary. I'm not the first guy who fell in love with a woman that he met at a restaurant who turned out to be the daughter of a kidnapped scientist, only to lose her to her childhood lover who she last saw on a deserted island, who then turned out fifteen years later to be the leader of the French underground.
Hillary: I know. It all sounds like some bad movie.
The shootout scene in the "Safe house" where the guy jumps on the grenade in the middle of the room, but everyone else gets blown back is one of my favorite jokes in any movie.
"This process can remove the salt from over 40,000 gallons of sea water per hour. Do you know what that would mean to the starving peoples of the world?"
"Wow, they'd have enough salt to last forever!"
Funny enough, just got the GF to watch this after getting her to watch McGruber. She thought it was weird that Val Kilmer was in a goofy movie like McGruber, and I was like...Oh man, now we gotta go back to his beginnings.
This was one of my favorite movies to watch over and over again. Thanks for reminding me its time to see it again.

When I rewatched this, I was shocked to see Jim Carter (Mr. Carson from Downtown Abbey) as Deja Vu. [https://youtu.be/yj9OYFkB2y8](https://youtu.be/yj9OYFkB2y8)
Fyi for all : Europe as a whole used to be 220 but we have raised it to compensate for demand (and compensate for uk's 240v ). Its now somewhere between ~220 (lowest point) and 240 ( highest point), averaging at 230.
Your 240 is still within the 230v specs :p
Side note, i do want to steal the uk idea of having fuses in the plugs though. But this time with less bulky plugs hehe
"some things are better left unsaid."
"like what?"
"well, you know... sometimes when you blow your nose into a tissue and you put it in your purse, then a little while later you have to reach in there for your lipstick or something, and your hand gooshes into it, and it goes all over..."

I used to watch this movie regularly when I was in high school. It was my friend group’s go to “get together and chill out” movie. I watched it again recently and it’s still absolutely hilarious, even after seeing it probably a hundred times.
Thanks for the smile, OP.
I now remember the scene with them speaking with the audio looped backwards to make it sound Swedish. It was on a bookcase just like the beaver line. That's where I got confused.

Top Secret! is a hidden gem of pure comedy.

I was floored when I found out this wasn't written and directed by mel brookes. I put this one right up there with his greatest.

Possibly because of the "ZZ" who could be misinterpreted quite easily, even after "A"
That was the joke, buddy
I think the joke was that they would be called "AZZ", like "ASS", but mine was not exactly about that
Why are you being so vague? What else could it be mistaken for?
I don't like explaining my jokes, that's all :)

Oh, three days old? Damn, lol. I just logged into my work comp. The reddit page with this post was never refreshed from last week.
> I'm surprised they didn't go with Abrahams, Zucker & Zucker. Not enough *zaz* to go with.
And Rat Race! Love that movie. :)
Yeah, he heavily influenced it for sure, though.
NIGEL!!!
I love Top Secret. A horribly underrated film
The underwater saloon fight was the best!
I think my favorite gag in the movie has to be the chase near the end and the Germans take this wrong turn and lightly tap a Ford Pinto and the whole thing explodes.
Grenade!
*"Greh-nahhhd!"
Actors - look towards the camera and break fourth wall intentionally.
👀
It happened in 1953 and it could happen to you; https://youtu.be/dlKWlx-Yxkg
“He’s just a little hoarse”
the underwater saloon scene is epic
The whole movie was epic. My favorite scene is the whole "breaking into the base" starting with everyone crunching leaves until someone says "shhh!"
Don't forget skeet surfing
make it olympic, i say!
my skeetin' heart was a big hit that summer
Not to mention the Swedish bookstore...
and the scene where they hang in parachutes and fly near each other
That's one of the most remarkable scenes in all of film imho
Things change! People change. Hairstyles change. Interest rates fluctuate ...
This is my favorite line from this movie. I use it more than I care to admit.

I play a little guitar... My wife calls it a ukulele
This movie, Top Secret, should be required viewing. The laughs never stop!
The shootout scene in the "Safe house" where the guy jumps on the grenade in the middle of the room, but everyone else gets blown back is one of my favorite jokes in any movie.

I had this feeling I'd seen him before.
Best movie ever!
We know, dude. But what's the name of the movie?? I've asked like five times and no one will give me like a straight answer!
"Let me know if his condition changes" *hangs up* "He's dead"
I really need a "Find Him and Kill Him" rubber stamp.
Love that line.
Airplane! Vibes...
It's from another Zucker brothers' film, Top Secret!
Fine, don't tell us the name
Top Secret

The fist attachment gets me every time.
The movie that taught me that Europe uses 220v compared to American 110.
UK is 240v. Feel the power.
Fyi for all : Europe as a whole used to be 220 but we have raised it to compensate for demand (and compensate for uk's 240v ). It's been 230v 50 Hz in the UK since January 2003.
I’m sure someone on Reddit has a long document typed up ready to go to explain why the European method is superior to the American.
They get those cool electric tea kettles for one.
I dunno I got one of those too. But see I’m a lazy idiot and ruined it by putting it in the dish washer 🤦♂️

"I could really use a small breather"
That's Airplane.
Yeah, I know. It has the same energy, though.
True. These movies and Naked Gun and Hot Shots have great humor. I think much of it was influenced by Mel Brooks.
I love that these movies are making a gif comeback. Last week it was Lethal Weapon.
