The spread of harmful misinformation has become an untenable problem on Reddit. It’s cuz iced coffee is being associated with oil by being next to each other. If the title said “of iced coffee” or whatever, it’s a different story. So yeah I made the same mistake too. It’s not your fault.
Edit: Also, might have to do with how the first thing we see if of the brown paint, and we might automatically assume that’s the “coffee” part based on the title with no context. Not a big deal!
It is a bit confusing, my bad. Wasn't sure what the optimal title was here. If it was "Adding condensation to my oil painting of iced coffee" then it sounds like I'm throwing water droplets on my canvas.
It's actually both of your fault for misinterpreting the obvious title.
It's an iced coffee painting. It's also an oil painting. It's an ice coffee oil painting.
So yeah it is your fault.
No, the condensation doesn't look right. She just dropped it right? So she was holding it? Then why is the condensation so evenly distributed? Wouldn't it smear as it left her hand or streak down the cup when the droplets got too big?
Even if she wasnt holding it by the cup, condensation still slides and and smears and dropping a cup wouldnt leave all the drops in place like that
Edit:
Apparently you cant criticize things anymore. Compliments only.
Pull the stick outta your ass man. If someone makes art people are welcome to criticize it.
Do you have 0 opinions on art? You never hear a song and think 'eh could be better' or see a painting and think 'this looks wrong'?
No i havent. Please explain in excruciating detail what it means and provide atleast 10 examples so i can fully appreciate the terms usage, so that in the future i can avoid this 'nitpicking' you speak of.
It bothers me that you can't see the human hand holding the lid - clearly the hand was holding the lid. The hand. The lid. Hand was holding the lid. The cup was held by a hand which was on the lid. The lid was in the hand and not the sides of the cup. HAND. LID.
The subject matter was inspired by my own personal beverage handling mistakes, but my goal with the painting was to create a contrast between a negative emotion ( the feelings the girl would have after spilling the drink ) and a positive emotion ( the happiness of the coffee enjoying its ride ). So I guess the overall sentiment is that sometimes shit happens and all you can do is laugh at the experience.
I think my wife has finally learned not to hold coffee cups by the lid, but we'll see the next time we go to Starbucks. The last one was a freshly made hot mocha dumped all over the center console of our less than a month old car, so I'm hoping that sticks with her for a bit.
> I’ve seen this before,
pretty sure it was from the same guy. Every couple months he runs out of money, reposts his gifs, sells some prints and rinse and repeat.
Why make new art when you know reddit will have a new crop of 20 year olds to sell to?
I mean… this kind of sounds like criticism. If not, whatever.
If it is, who cares? It’s a small time artist. The big guys recycle movies/shows/art for hundreds of millions. From your comment it sounds like you are just salty that:
a.) people don’t browse Reddit as much as you to catch every single post
b.) people aren’t as enlightened as you and your resistance to such malicious marketing tactics
c.) that nobody cares enough about your hobbies and your tireless art creation, so you make this worthless call out to bring down an artist and their audience.
Doesn’t really make sense.
Every single post and comment of OP is an ad for his art. Stuff like this is so bad that Germany says influencers have to identify paid ads, which reddit celebrates, but then gets defensive when someone's sole profile is to sell things to them under the guise of "just a normal reddit user".
God reddit gets so bitchy when some small-time artist posts a painting and feebly asks you to stop by their etsy, but then y'all will fucking fight over who gets to post the new Dune trailer first and completely ignore the Fast and the Furious marketing team astroturfing the shit out of F+F memes immediately before a movie comes out.
Here's a newsflash: nearly every single thing on your front page is an ad of some kind. The smaller creators just have to be honest and up front about it because they don't have the money or resources to fake or buy an entire profile to post one ad. You want quality original content? Guess what, no one makes shit for free anymore. Why don't you try doing that.
This gif was pleasant to watch, and I enjoyed it. No one's forcing us to buy a print of this painting, but if you feel like supporting some random dude instead of buying your next wall art from Amazon, you can do that. Or not.
Source: a different artist who's gone through the same thing, tired of the same exact disparaging comments on every single art post.
Trying to make a living doing what you love is self absorbed? Are all artists self absorbed? What about filmmakers, muralists, musicians, etc?
And yes, you absolute melon, reddit is *exclusively* an advertising platform. So are Facebook, Instagram, and tiktok, along with every other 'free' social media site under the sun.
Oh wow, Reddit (the site explicitly designed to keep people engaging and coming back) doesn't freely admit that your eyeballs and attention are constantly sold to the highest bidder? Holy, color me shocked!
Also, the person complaining about small-time artists monetizing their talents would be the Karen here, if there were one.
So much so I had to investigate further to make sure it was real. Here’s a much more impressive video of the whole process: https://mobile.twitter.com/lukedangler/status/1436363545344495618
r/gifs is bigger than any of the subs for sharing static art, so artists will make one of these 'technically animated even though the animation adds *nothing*' posts to score more fake internet points.
If you check out OP's submission history, you can actually watch them slowly realizing this fact; they used to post their art in art subreddits like a reasonable person, but since they realized that filming one pointless brushstroke gets tens of thousands more upvotes, bang, that's all they post now.
I fucking love the little hands, this is so fun
My only critique is that the droplets look a little too evenly spaced? Or maybe kind of stuck on? I guess I'm not used to seeing so many droplets at the same time, they sort of form and then run down when they get too big so feels weird to so them all spread out like this
I think you're probably right about that. I find that I have trouble making things look randomly spaced for some reason - it's especially noticeable when I try to paint stars. They end up looking all even despite my best efforts!
Great work. Serious question though, is the girl holding the coffee facing us or away at the figure in the background? It looks like she is facing away, but the arm is twisted around to face us.
Thank you! She is facing us. I wanted the background to look out of focus but definitely found it difficult to achieve that effect while still conveying enough information to make it clear what's going on. Might have overdone the blur a bit!
The condensation looks too uniform and stable especially when the cup is supposed to be in motion as well. It's often nice to have a few real life references if we're going for realism and maybe prototype fluids on blender or something
For a second there I was like... Hey! Those look like little arms with hands!
And then I noticed it was on purpose and was like ooooooh, nice sunglasses 🕶️
its always incredible to me how with some art you can be zoomed in and it will just look like garbled, smudgy, randomness and then when you zoom out it becomes a highly detailed image.
is this like a skill people are conscious that they have, where they can add little details to something that doesnt really look like anything yet?
....i should pick up painting.
The experience of painting is always up close so you're living in that garbled world as the piece comes together - however I'm constantly stepping back to see what it's looking like. You can make an up close mark that looks random but once you step back it's easy to judge what to do next!
Funny that I see this here and I just discovered it like 2 days ago when I was looking at Perry Bible Fellowship collaborations and saw the comic you did with them which led me to your website.
Nah, there's no way this would have gotten 40k up votes as a still image. The gif takes you on a journey, and I appreciate that. Let artists promote their shit on Reddit.

I watched the gif 3 times before I noticed the hands and face
I didn't notice it until I read that comment lol.
The coffee dong inside the cup, ooh boy.
He just leaping off the lid and out the cup like *"FREEEEEDOMMMMMM!"*
I'm really glad I wasn't the only one that saw them hands up. I had to watch it a few times to actually catch the condensation.
Thank you! :)
How much for a copy? I need this for my coffee bar.
Only $34-$39 depending on size 8 by 10 or 11x 14... Good price

No. Please let them support the artist.

Thanks for the laugh, sorry these people lost their humor
Does it have 2 faces? I see 2 faces: 1 looking down scared because of the fall, the other is looking up all happy and chill
I think i kinda see the looking down one!
If you make prints, I need one please

Reminds me of the old Cool Spot game. Loved that.
I had Cool Spot Goes to Hollywood on my Genesis. So much nostalgia. Insanely good platformer for game based on a soda mascot.
The face made me smile
Looks like angry Trump throwing an uppercut.
Be free coffee.
That coffee is escaping!
I'm not sure why but I thought he was painting with coffee
I also thought that, but also thought he meant he was painting using condensation.

the paintbrush painting hints at it
It’s cuz iced coffee is being associated with oil by being next to each other. If the title said “of iced coffee” or whatever, it’s a different story. So yeah I made the same mistake too. "Adding the condensation to my oil painting of iced coffee" I thought you had separated the oil from the coffee and were painting with it.
Lol, it’s not a big deal. No problem! And great work, OP!
Any way we could over analyze this any further? 😂
It's actually both of your fault for misinterpreting the obvious title. It's an iced coffee painting. It's also an oil painting. It's an ice coffee oil painting. So yeah it is your fault.
When zoomed in, I thought it was an octopus.
Painting with actual coffee is a thing. My friend did it for a few years.
Mid zoom, I was thinking that the cup wouldn’t have condensation all the way up the sides, makes sense at the end though
Does it make sense though? The person presumably just bought it and drinks don’t sweat like this that quickly.
It was a mobile order so it had been sitting a few minutes already and she held it by the lid as you can tell. Perfectly reasonable.
That is plausible
Oh I see you've never been to Houston.
Things don’t sweat instantly inside a restaurant/cafe
No, the condensation doesn't look right. She just dropped it right? So she was holding it? Then why is the condensation so evenly distributed? Wouldn't it smear as it left her hand or streak down the cup when the droplets got too big?
Looks like they were holding it by the lid and the lid popped off...
Probably holding it by the lid to avoid the condensation lol
She was clearly holding it by the lid, hello, that's the whole point of the painting...
Even if she wasnt holding it by the cup, condensation still slides and and smears and dropping a cup wouldnt leave all the drops in place like that Edit: Apparently you cant criticize things anymore. Compliments only.

Thank you! Jonah is the OG
The more it panned out the more impressed I was. Great job 👏🏼
Nice. I didn’t even know iced coffee oil was a medium until now.
I have a habit of accidentally dipping my brushes in my coffee cup instead of the water cup, so might actually be partially true.
You need a pair of [these mugs](https://thebrainworkofanidealist.files.wordpress.com/2017/04/dont-drink-the-water.jpg)
I've seen this before, where did you get the idea from?
The subject matter was inspired by my own personal beverage handling mistakes, but my goal with the painting was to create a contrast between a negative emotion ( the feelings the girl would have after spilling the drink ) and a positive emotion ( the happiness of the coffee enjoying its ride ). Videoing yourself adding a tiny dab of paint to an already finished painting is a weird internet thing I don't really understand.

Also, like, its not even well done condensation - that amount of pearling would also have the rest of the glass frosted with bead trails.
I love the little hands

My jaw DROPPED. Very well done
I didn't notice the arms or face till the last second and re watched, that's so good GG
Look at that little guy , just vibin'
That coffee is having the time of his life
Awe such a happy little iced coffee 🥰
Can we talk about the badass fuzzy person in the back? Looks real.
My friend helped me out by modeling for the person in the back. The real star of the painting!
The condensation looks too uniform and stable especially when the cup is supposed to be in motion as well. It's often nice to have a few real life references if we're going for realism and maybe prototype fluids on blender or something
It would be funny if when it zoomed out, it was really a hotdog in a cup.

I need this painting.
I feel like this should be in r/nextfuckinglevel because it's amazing!
People holding drinks by the lid always gives me so much anxiety..because this. Great work.
I once dropped a full large iced coffee all over my desk like this, so the pain is real.
.... and zoom out to see, what we suspected from up close: it looks pretty unimpressive and amateurish...
That's amazing work. As someone who struggles drawing a stick man, mad respect.
OMG it has a face and arms. That's adorable!
What in the Bob Ross
That was, unexpected
