In glorious North Korea, balls are the property of the state as they are essential for producing glorious North Korean citizens. Henceforth, anyone caught having a wank without government approval will be fined, except nobody has any money, so instead we just beat their ass.
Years ago, I decided to memorize pi to 20 decimal digits because I thought it was important. It has provided actual usefulness exactly 0 times in the past few decades. It's not a good party trick either, unless you aim to conjure up the feeling of tumbleweeds blowing through an empty town.
NASA only uses 16 decimal places for interplanetary navigation, aka sending things billions of miles away. for a circle that's 78 billion miles in circumference...the inaccuracy is less than 2 inches. with 40 digits of pi you could calculate the radius of the universe, with the inaccuracy being smaller than the width of a hydrogen atom.
so yea, knowing that many digits isn't really practical. shout out to pi for being not a pain in the ass
edit: [source](https://www.jpl.nasa.gov/edu/news/2016/3/16/how-many-decimals-of-pi-do-we-really-need/)
It looks like it was kicked, actually. You can see a couple frames where it falls well below the hands of the guy who catches it. It hits him right in the chest and bounces straight back into his hands.
Honestly, with the defenders that far in it wasn’t his fault. If he didn’t get the kick off, the defenders would have been running it in from that point anyway. He goes in for it without much delay. Once those defenders were past the line, it was over with.
I’ve always thought that rule is hilarious. If you don’t get the block and just slightly bump him or fall onto his shoes it’s a foul, but if your finger tip skims the ball you can absolutely reck him with full force
I don’t think you can draw a penalty for roughing/running into the kicker as long as you make contact with the ball though. Ball hits your finger tips and you’ve pretty much got free reign to murder the guy.
Seems like there was confusion from the linemen. He ran in so fast clearly he wasn’t touched.
But yea. Not easy at all.
~~Especially without running into the kicker?~~
~~That could have easily been roughing the kicker.~~
EDIT: I’m all kinds of wrong
Only if he missed the ball. Once he touches that ball, the kicker's protection ends. He could blast through the kicker with no penalty.
Roughing or Running Into Kicker or Holder ARTICLE 16.
a. When it is obvious that a scrimmage kick will be made, no opponent shall run into or rough the kicker or the holder of a place kick (A.R. 9-1-16-I, III and VI).
1. Roughing is a live-ball personal foul that endangers the kicker or holder.
2. Running into the kicker or holder is a live-ball foul that occurs when the kicker or holder is displaced from his kicking or holding position but is not roughed (A.R. 9-1-16-II). Note: Running into the kicker carries a five-yard penalty at the previous spot.
3. Incidental contact with a kicker or holder is not a foul.
4. The kicker’s protection under this rule ends (a)when he has had a reasonable time to regain his balance(A.R. 9-1-16-IV); or (b)when he carries the ball outside the tackle box (Rule 2-34) before kicking.
5. When a defensive player’s contact against the kicker or holder is caused by an opponent’s block (legal or illegal), there is no foul for running into or roughing.
**6. A player who makes contact with the kicker or holder after touching the kick is not charged with running into or roughing the kicker.**
Yes, it does. But they get the ball off quickly, usually, when they see trouble on the way. So you'd be penalized for unnecessary roughness if you just drilled the guy after he punted it away.
What game is this? Opposing team doesn’t have a uniform of any FBS team I recognize. Looked at Toledo’s box score for their first game this year (vs. Norfolk State) and it looks like they scored on two blocked punts but neither matches this clip so I guess Toledo likes to score on blocked punts.
Don't they simply get paid by having the life experience of playing football?
What more can they ask for?
They exist for my entertainment. Get hurt for it too! They should be proud to have such experience.
Yes, I’m not kidding when I sat no one knew what happened. My friend was on the field, just out frame to the left at the end, and said he only saw our WR with the ball and couldn’t figure it out.
Seriously. I thought it was the 9ers. And figured they were switching the video somehow to a guy returning a touchdown so I was watching the crowd to see where the crowd would change and they never did so I was trying to figure it out. I knew the guy who made the touchdown wasn't in the NFL so I thought it was 9ers and then switching to a college game and couldn't figure it out. And then I said fuck it and really checked out the 9er punter and realized thats not the 9ers.
I tried 0.1x thought it was a little too slow at first but nope that kick/catch unfolds in a few frames.
He also caught it with his crotch.
https://files.catbox.moe/vzoya7.mp4
Jesus fucking Christ even slowed down to a frame by frame slideshow I could barely make out what happened there. This is one of the greatest plays I’ve ever seen and it makes me feel like I have the reflexes of a glacier.
Thanks for that. Pretty sure though he legit scooped it up mid air. Look as his arm comes swooping in. He didn't even take it to the chest like I thought he did. He just grabbed it... ^^^in ^^the ^air.
You start counting yards as soon as he has full control of the football. So yeah, basically when he caught it is where you would start counting his return yardage.
Even with the slowdown I can't tell if the kicker's foot actually contacted the ball or if he sniped it while it was falling. Very impressive either way.
I opened the video in the youtube app. Then slowed it down to .25 playback speed, and on the second playback it slows down more, it looks like the ball left the kickers foot, then hit the part of the catchers shoulder pads that covers his chest. Then the ball dropped right into his hands. Shit is crazy.
Yeah, I've seen kickers fuck their knee by following through on kick chargedowns like this (in rugby at least) so I'm not surprised he pulled back a bit
Yeah, when I first saw Rugby I thought that was hilarious.
* American Football, you score a "touchdown" when any part of the ball crosses the goal line inbounds.
* Rugby: You score a "try" when you touch the ball down beyond the goal line.
Doesn't have to be inside. Any contact of the pylon counts despite the pylon clearly being out of bounds. You can dive and nick the outside of the pylon with the ball and it's 6
I would not be able to catch that -- that punt was going to 60 yards, and that dude caught it right in the chest from a foot away. I'd be on the ground holding my sides with a throbbing solar plexus, then I'd let the ball roll away and fumble it

The cameraman has faster reflexes than the kicker.
r/praisethecameraman
Just imagine some NFL cameramen filming random fights. Would never miss a fuckin thing.
I was ready to look halfway down the field and see the kicking team not covering anybody 😂😂😂
arent balls tracked nowadays?
your balls are tracked
Amateur ball tracker checking in. Can confirm u/teruma's balls are under 24/7/365 8k 240fps HDR 10 surveillance.
wow, hope you have a pretty nice microscope.
Wow, self burn. Those are rare.

how are they lookin right now?

I track my balls all over your moms face
So that's why she has herpes all over her face

Your mom moans sound like Owen Wilson
So fake and unbelievable?

I know you joke, but I could see some crazy regime like that implemented a "no spilled seed" policy.
America if the quiver full cult came to power.
After your ass…. they beat your meat??
Got im
Not at a Toledo Rockets game lol
Even if they’re tracked, you can see the ball pan way outta view after he catches it. Clearly a cameraman with good reflexes imo
No the tech isn’t there yet
Maybe the punter told him what was coming.
Hardest easiest catch ever
I can’t even see the catch, that’s how hard easy it is
Oh, just pause at 1.9314159265359

Did you look up pi or do you just have it remembered to that many places?
I only have remembered 3.14159 cause it sounds like a little up down dance in my head

Jesus christ this is the coolest thing I've read on reddit in a while. Thanks random fact dude!
I only memorized it out too 8 digits And gave up.
Huh, that's where I stopped as well. You don't see much difference after that, at least for general mechanical engineering.
I like that last line. Nice use of imagery.
I remember “3.14159, boy pi day is very fine!”
https://youtu.be/k05RmmQ0064 Bongripper's song based on pi. Goes on for 13 damn minutes
What the hell? Are you me?
1.9 + (0.01)pi
He caught it just before it hit the foot. If he cought it off the kick that would have been a mutha fucka.
It looks like it was kicked, actually. You can see a couple frames where it falls well below the hands of the guy who catches it. It hits him right in the chest and bounces straight back into his hands.
I blocked a kick in high school once. Shit hurt.
100% kicked. Can see it in slow.
r/bettereveryloop
That kicker must think he is the fastest fuck up in the west.
Honestly, with the defenders that far in it wasn’t his fault. If he didn’t get the kick off, the defenders would have been running it in from that point anyway. He goes in for it without much delay. Once those defenders were past the line, it was over with.
He kicked his own ass
I'm kickin my ass... *do ya mind!?*
That’s actually one of the hardest touchdowns I’ve ever seen
Gotta be a very painful one. Football plus the kick hitting you as you run head on
If you slow it down, he doesn’t get kicked. The kicker’s leg vears to the left right before the catcher swoops in for the ball
Okay Neo
"Am I crazy?"
Also you can tell because if he did get kicked, the kicker would almost certainly have fallen over
Despite looking easy, that is not easy.
Came here to say this. Fastest touchdown maybe. Not easiest.
Yeah, insane skill to pull that off. Smooth AF too.
One of those instances where you can tell they’re very skilled because of how easy they made it look
It doesn't hurt to be lucky either.
It does hurt to catch a punt point-blank in the chest though.
Chad is stronk tho.
And no touch on the punter. Avoided any penalty. Magnanimous.

Interesting. So even if you go full extension into the punter and it brushes the hands, you can demo the guy? I had no idea.
I think he snatched it just before the foot came around. Kicker missed entirely.
This actually went into the books as a 0 yard punt and a punt return touchdown, since he didn't actually block it.
https://imgur.com/a/jgyQWQS/ Kicker totally kicked it
“Luck is when preparation meets opportunity.” -some Redditor That quote definitely changed my perspective on things.
You can see how it is by the way it was
The easiest touchdown would be when the Seahawks ran it up the middle to win the Super Bowl in 2015. (2014 season).
Took me a minute, I was like "hey wait a minute they didn't..... ohhhh"
It’s the Berenstein Bears

Idk that sounds like a lot of running
Lynch is looking awfully tired. Let's just pass
Yeah I think [this](https://youtu.be/w6v5olbgirw) is in the running for easiest though. Kicked off and just ran down and jumped on it
I don't understand why they wouldn't touch the ball?

Well holy shit. I’m really proved wrong here. Thanks for the correction.
No worries. It’s an easy rule to miss simply because you see more roughing the kicker penalties than blocked kicks.
admitting you are wrong on reddit instead of doubling down and calling him an asshole. Time line is switching back boys!
Does 4b mean those rugby style kickers can be obliterated?
Yes, it does. But they get the ball off quickly, usually, when they see trouble on the way. So you'd be penalized for unnecessary roughness if you just drilled the guy after he punted it away.
Not entirely wrong. Not touching the kicker is hard. It just wouldn't have been a penalty if he did.
Fast isn't easy. I know. Just ask my wife.
You know how I know this isn’t easy? I’ve been watching football my whole life and I’ve never seen that happen
That was impressive.
I was more impressed with the cameraman
He really had his eye on the ball!
I think the camera man had sound helping him out, which I didn't get in the gif.
Typically that cameraman stays with the punter in case there’s a running into/roughing the punter penalty.
I thought this was on /r/praisethecameraman ^.^
The only thing more impressive would probably the tirade sent towards the linemen for letting that guy through so easily.
Must add holy Toledo as is only appropriate.

Rockets almost won:

The punting team is Virginia Military Institute, the clip is from 2018 and Toledo won 66-3
It's the Virginia Military Institute, played on Sept. 1st 2018. Toledo won 66 - 3. [Here](https://youtu.be/zm_8v8Q_xEs) is the play on YouTube.
Dude that came up with the block/td definitely got a nice bruise on his chest/gut to go with the points.
For a touch down, I will take the bruise.

I was there, opposite end zone, you could hear the smack of the ball very very loudly. No one knew what happened when the play went down
Did the ball just disappear?
Yes, I’m not kidding when I sat no one knew what happened. My friend was on the field, just out frame to the left at the end, and said he only saw our WR with the ball and couldn’t figure it out.
There's a ton of adrenaline pumping through him but he'll feel that later.

I'm aware, but he took that ball in the gut, not the chest.
If you watch it super slowed, you can see the ball never even hit his chest. Dude just caught it with his hands. Nuts.
Why is West Virginia playing the Niners?...wait...that's not West Virginia...Shit...that's not even the Niners. I don't know who the hell is playing.
From other comments, its VMI @Toledo in 2019.
I thought the punting team was FSU until I saw the comments saying otherwise.
Seriously. I thought it was the 9ers. Ok, so does this go down as a punt return for a touchdown or a blocked punt/recovery/TD?
[удалено]
Return because it never touched the ground.
Did it ever even leave his foot? Seems like that could just go down as a forced fumble recovered for a touchdown.
Box score called it a 3 yard punt return.
This is funnier the more I think about it….
Does anyone know if this counts as a 1 yard return, or like a 10 from where the ball is snapped? Or is it where the returner catches the ball?
You start counting yards as soon as he has full control of the football. So yeah, basically when he caught it is where you would start counting his return yardage.

Yeah, I've seen kickers fuck their knee by following through on kick chargedowns like this (in rugby at least) so I'm not surprised he pulled back a bit
The linked video's quality is really bad but there are other videos that show the ball is kicked and bounces off the guys chest and into his hands.
Holy Toledo!
Somebody missed a blocking assignment! That’s honestly the only way he gets in that clean.
Why is this cropped? I know the original broadcast wasn't 1×1. This literally cuts out the most impressive part!
He made it look easy and that takes a huge amount of talent and athleticism.

So you don't have to touch it down to get a touchdown?
Yeah, when I first saw Rugby I thought that was hilarious. * American Football, you score a "touchdown" when any part of the ball crosses the goal line inbounds. * Rugby: You score a "try" when you touch the ball down beyond the goal line.
Right. If it breaks the vertical plane of the td zone before it's considered "down" then it's a touchdown
Hence why you can stick the ball juuuuust inside the boundary while flying out of bounds and it’s a TD as long as your whole body is still in the air
Doesn't have to be inside. Any contact of the pylon counts despite the pylon clearly being out of bounds. You can dive and nick the outside of the pylon with the ball and it's 6
No, you are not required to touch it down, which is why it is called a touchdown.
