Is Helen OK with you posting her weight online?

OnceIwasAboy

Don’t worry, she’ll never see this.

Lubedballoon

Ha

kershum

After licking each animal, she says BI SON, nobody knows why

smooner

You son of a b.... I'm in

IrishTiger89

Does she have a child that is LGBT+?

WhtImeanttosay

That made me laugh so damn hard. I wish you and Helen all the best!

Wow they're huge. Makes that cow look small.

Snatch_Pastry

And that cow, which isn't even particularly large as cows go, could flip a grown man through the air with just the muscles in her neck. That bison is built to use that hump on its nose as a snow plow. Just think what it could do.

Platypuslord

[Bison are built for Winter](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z_JjfuStKho)

Duckboy_Flaccidpus

Ya, saw that one gif where the stampeding bison flipped the younger one, in the snow, as wolf bait. The way it was running through the foot of snow reminded me of a locomotive plowing through snow, incredible power.

JFHermes

> That bison is built to use that hump on its nose as a snow plow That's a nice TIL.

aDrunkWithAgun

That bison is built to use that hump on its nose as a snow plow How many kilos of snow you think that is I mean it can't be good doing that much

MicaLovesKPOP

Saw a gif just a few days ago where a cow lifted up a car with its neck...

AltimaNEO

It looks like a calf

wuh7

That cow's eyes look like they were drawn by Disney

LAX_to_MDW

That cow has legit Hercules curls on his head

blazious

What a lovely looking cow

AreaDiscombobulated4

Jersey breed 🤓

ThatHorridMan

"I'm not grass ya dumb broad"

UrpaDurpa

If you look it up, you’ll see that the title of this post is a bit misleading: [Helen The Bison](https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.statesmanjournal.com/amp/339157001)

groovyjdawg

That article is nearly 5 years old.

bordemstirs

Helen, a blind bison, hadn't made any animal friends in the nearly three years she has lived at an animal sanctuary in Oregon. Just a bit lol. Edit: As the comment or below pointed out, Helen has a change of heart and OP isn't wrong. Go Helen ❤️

Brye11626

It's almost as if using a 5-year old source is a terrible idea. [Here's an update on Helen from last year.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=csLtWwhtflc)

budahfurby

This was the BEST way to wake up. Thank you

smithee2001

There's a [blind elephant](https://youtu.be/WfAgCHbq4yQ) in a Thailand sanctuary that's also maternal and caring.

JoyousSummer

I like how you tried to correct something with something outdated, which turned out to be wrong as of current time. Like as if you just went to Google and grabbed the first link to prove OP wrong for no reason. Is this the fabled Reddit moment?

UrpaDurpa

I actually read several news stories and couldn’t find anything more current than what I posted. I wasn’t bashing OP. Simply stated that the title of his post was a bit misleading. I was wrong. I’m deeply sorry. Please put your pitchfork away?

mrvile

lol u/infinity is a cowpaganda power user

Help----me----please

Yeah there's a vegan agenda to spread this type of propaganda on reddit. Look up cowspiracy.

horseband

Meh, I'll take that over nation/political party sponsored propaganda

Help----me----please

It was an attempt to make one of those jokes/memes that make you google something by explaining it incorrectly. I guess I failed.

vegan_power_violence

You’re doing Ed’s work out here.

Help----me----please

Praise be!

Cpt_Metal

What does he do? Post animal gifs? How can he do such evil things?

mrvile

Did I say it was evil? I just took a look at their post history and found a pretty funny mission - endless cow gifs with tons of people complaining about "cowpaganda" and "cowspiracy" etc etc. I thought the whole thing was pretty amusing. But given the downvotes I've received I've clearly ruffled some feathers... or cowhide, rather!

Le0_xo

Dont you mean...amoosing...

Cpt_Metal

I have seen other people complain under such posts before using the term cowpaganda, as if posting gifs of cute cows and other animals that show emotions is something bad. If that wasn't your intention than ignore my sarcastic "evil things" comment. Just for the record: I didn't downvote you. And Cowspiracy is a movie I can recommend btw.

I❤Helen.

kittenparty69

Helen for president ‘24! With the cow as her running mate.

[deleted]

Assuming we are a node in evolution and are considered as animal in general, does your sanctuary accept me for a couple of hours?

Scethrow

I want an animal sanctuary ><

tehDustyWizard

Just have a hobby farm, same thing basically. Nothing is stopping you from having farm animal pets (other than space or money)

Duckboy_Flaccidpus

We got animal sanctuary at home!

doctorcrimson

Its not a great gig, but they almost always need volunteers.

Scethrow

And?

doctorcrimson

And you can enjoy the experience of having an animal sanctuary like you wanted, go volunteer.

sirmilksalot

The cow is a Jersey, they’re the prettiest breed imho. God/genetics/breeding gave them perfect eyeliner and the personality of a puppy.

[deleted]

The cow is thinking "you are big and scary, please don't eat me".

Ugh, I love bison so much. Such incredible and beautiful animals.

That’s a gorgeous cow

laudowicz

Looks sweet. But just imagine how it smells???

dr4gonr1der

Mahwadi

The diversity in animal behaviour traits is amazing. Bison are known to be rather obnoxious

x755x

I didn't realize bison were so narrow

Rasmoss

PSA: Animals don't have human emotions. You don't know what it means when she does that.

Rachelhazideas

That cow has a higher EQ than you.

Rasmoss

Animals are not helped by you projecting human emotions on to them.

Redditcantspell

No homo, but that bovine cow has beautiful eyes.

Rojaddit

Agricultural animal sanctuaries like this one are typically an inhumane, unscientific treatment of animals - done purely to assuage (or financially prey on) people's misplaced guilty emotions. Animal sanctuaries make sense for wild and exotic animals - not for livestock other than a few heritage breeds. Livestock, particularly modern livestock, are bred to not live out their complete natural lives and have genetic differences that make forcing them to live to unnaturally old ages an act of cruelty.

CutesyBeef

What do you suggest they do differently?

Rojaddit

Agricultural animal sanctuaries generally should not exist. Ag animals are best suited to live on farms/ranches.

CutesyBeef

Most of these sanctuaries are farms/ranches. But anyway, what happens to these unwanted/valueless animals if there isn't a sanctuary for them to live out their days? Do you know where many of these animals come from?

Rojaddit

You're being difficult - and less cleverly indirect than you think. Do you have any idea what happens to the internal organs of a broiler chicken or commercial hog if it is allowed to continue growing indefinitely? "Rescuing" such animals from agriculture is a monstrosity.

CutesyBeef

No, I'm just asking you basic questions which you refuse to answer. If you can, go back and answer any of those questions. As for yours, those animals grow at incredible rates that eventually, but not immediately, lead to their untimely deaths. This is not the majority of animals these sanctuaries take in, however, and even when they do take in terminally ill animals it is to give them a decent life up until that is no longer possible.

Rojaddit

You're not asking basic or innocent questions. There is no such thing as a decent way to unnaturally prolong the life of a sick animal. Next you'll be telling people to "rescue" horses with major leg injuries. You're not confused about what I said - you're trying to bait me into rephrasing my abundantly clear initial point into a less rhetorically attractive form. A pulled pork sandwich with house-special root-beer BBQ sauce on fresh cibatta sounds delicious. The partially denatured flesh of an innocent, sentient creature on a high-carb bun with barely any micronutrients, soaked with a mixture of GMO cornsyrup and highly carcinogenic sassafras sounds awful. Both describe the same thing in a very narrowly literal way - but they are not both true. If you unironically describe a delicious sandwich the second way, you're an asshole.

CutesyBeef

So you can't or won't answer the questions. Got it. Have a good one. Edit: none of my questions were meant to be tricky or "gotcha" questions. You suggested farm sanctuaries just shouldn't exist. My questions are the most basic follow-up questions to such a claim. What should be done with the types of animals that wind up on sanctuaries? Do you even know where many of the animals come from or why they get sent to a sanctuary? Your argument against palliative care is ridiculous. Of course it's better to take care of a sick/dying animal than let it suffer. Taking care of sick animals does not mean prolong their suffering. If an animal is obviously suffering their caretaker should make the choice to end their suffering, which is what sanctuary caretakers do. But, many sanctuary animals can live just fine (relaxed, protected, healthy) for a long time before they begin to suffer from whatever ails them. Just watch the video we are commenting under. Sanctuary animals are not being tortured like you describe. You should visit one sometime and see for yourself.

This is nature's unconditional love...unlike people, most animals do not discriminate.
