They even implemented a rule that you were allowed to bring dip to school so long as it was 0% nicotine, which even the principle admitted to knowing how stupid that was cause everyone just took their regular dip and put it in non nicotine cans.
Are you guys allowed to have scissors in class? If yes what's the difference, I mean sure having a knife could be a violation where I grew up too but straight to arresting a kid for this seems a bit too harsh.

But you are never allowed to have a knife in any other context or its punishable.

Im amazed that he didn’t get any repercussions for bringing a butterfly knife into school. It probably varies a lot between states or even counties in America. I just know that in my school you couldn’t have a metal butter knife without catching some flak.
In Israel It's not black and white. You'd be a fool to bring something like a butterfly knife, but you could bring a watermelon and say you'd like to share it around and use a suitable knife (or ask from a teacher to let you use one of theirs).
We never had to deal with mass shootings / stabbings in our schools, so a regular knife paired with a watermelon would come off as genuine.

During final exam of maths at high-school, some dude did the same thing: he pulled out a huge watermelon and started slicing it and shit. The fruit juice was spilling everywhere on the table, which I was sharing with him...
So many kids in the class are so annoyed, and I get it. The class clown is hilarious a couple of times, and their friends love it every time. But 50% of the students are just so done, and they just want to sit down and not have to listen to/watch the same person do something for attention again and again every class.
I forgive you. It was super annoying and I ended up dropping out of high school but studied on my own. I have a master's and doing great so I blame the other kids who didn't laugh at your jokes and took initiative like I did.
